Daily Challenge: 20 carcasses donated in 10 minutes

Is there a trick to this challenge?  Or just poorly designed?

  • I know I can get 10 of the 20 by getting small animals and stuffing them in the hunting cart.
  • I know I can get 10 more by hunting tiny animals that fit in my pouch... but those tiny animals are not what you'd call common.
  • I think that I could probably collect the tiny animals through the day and not donate them until I accumulate 10 or 20 in my pouch, but there is no easy way to identify which of my animals are in my pouch and which on the horse/cart.  So I'd have to keep a paper log and be careful when donating.

So I think that I am missing something, this is theoretically doable, but the level of effort does not seem proportional to the reward.

Any suggestions other than what I described to make the process easier?

Do a bird shooting contest so that crows spawn. You might need to do that twice. Apart from that just regularly shoot small animals when you see them and keep them for when it's a daily.

I would prefer not to

Rats and bats inside the cave behind Elysian Pool's waterfall. You can get around 7, sometimes even 10. Reload the area a couple of times and it's done.

I'd always collect things while I played so I'd have a good reserve of things for dailies. I'm like some others and don't want to spend much time on each daily and having reserve helps. I never went out of my way to accomplish a daily. Either I could do it in a few minutes or I'd skip it.

You just keep all the rats, squirrels, chipmunks, tiny little birds etc you kill in your satchell until the daily mission pops up.

They are worth virtually nothing as materials, so you might as well save them until they are worth gold.

As the others have said, just get in the habit of popping squirrels, chipmunks, small birds, frogs & toads, bats, quail are good too, you often see 4 or 5 at a time of those.

You can get Cuban land crabs on the big island west of Rhodes also.

They are doubly useful as you'll need them for the 'cooked seasoned crustacean' daily as well.

The beggar that I give coins to sometimes gives me a perfect rat carcass that takes up no real space. And, speaking of perfect...

One of the dailies is to give Cripps 5 or 6 perfect carcasses. That's where I first noticed that rat came in handy. I will also shoot 3 star frogs with a bow and small arrows when I'm on the east coast farming alligator meat for grub. The frogs come out perfect also and fit right in my bag until Cripps needs perfect animal carcasses.

Fort Brennan is an ideal place for completing this challenge. Aim up and shoot the small birds. Cardinals, orioles, woodpeckers and sparrows galore. Plenty of rats also spawn there too. Any animal that goes in your satchel counts towards the challenge.

I usually save my little critters for when that challenge will provide 9/9.
The best is using 20 little critters for two challenges the same day. 20 carcasses in 10 min. and 10 small carcasses donated.
Both of those challenges occur often like some others do and you may be glad you saved for a 9/9.

If you take some time you can fill your satchel faster than you may think.

You just get to know which ones are "tiny pouch animals." Here is what I bank on:

Squirrels

Bullfrog

Chipmunks

Western Toad

Rat

Bat

Birds that are smaller such as woodpecker, swallow, etc.

Quail (smaller "ground" bird.)

I get all of those, except rat and bat (that cave people mentioned above is good AND when going around the Lagras area to try to get bird feathers, at night, SMALL BATS!

mostly replace them as spawns (and owls, which are medium animals ) ),

around my Hennington's Stead camp area.

Because it is mostly "grass", they are also easier to spot/track/kill than if it was a forested area.

I had as many as 47 once, then used them for the various dailies  ;)

If you ride around "eagle eye" tracking, looking for stuff/herbs, you'll OFTEN see squirrel trails (especially near trees) and bullfrog/western toad trails by water (especially around Lagras, etc.

For the ground ones, bow and small arrow is best (to still keep them *** perfect, varmit rifle is fine if they are ** or below, or if you don't care that they drop to **.)

If in a hurry, I'll just use the varmit rifle if also filling the Hunting Wagon with 10 "Medium carcasses." it is nice to have a bunch of them at "perfect", though,

because then you can turn them in as "perfect carcass daily" or I think there is even a "small perfect carcass" daily?

Flocks of small birds are always about, if you "eagle eye" to make them show up better in the air. I always bump into them in Hennington's Stead, for instance. Varmit rifle is best for those,

since small arrow is hard to hit them with (unless very close to you.) Varmit will make them only ** at best, though (good.)

Oh yeah, cuban land crab is great (on that island by Rhodes) for the reasons a previous(s) mentioned (also used for "cooked crustacean.")

===============

Kind of related:

While doing that for such a daily, you might want to also skin some of the *** (perfect) critters when you run out of room in the

Hunting Wagon; this is because there are also dailies to sells skins (usually 5 of them.) I think some of those dailies

require "perfect"? So those are the ones I make sure I save in stacks; nice because they are also "small", so are

kept in your "pouch."

Bolger Glade (especially at night) is another excellent source of small animals; both pelts and carcasses.

Once in a while (if I'm low on animals), I just take an hour or so to hang out there and shoot whatever moves. Sometimes it's nice to take a break from other game play.

Most of my small satchel animals are there because my horse squarshed 'em accidentally. I actually prefer having a bunch of poor quality ones since I tend to keep Cripps pretty well stocked so I'm usually trying to cram 20 of them in a little sliver of room on the materials bar. Most aren't worth much even in perfect condition anyway.

Heh; that's me to a "t". :) I treat Cripps like my inventory cleaning device--a good idea anyway, since my camp got raided last night (and I couldn't be bothered to defend it).

I laugh it off thinking to myself of all the crud I dumped that got "stolen".

That's another good point: be aware of your materials bar and how much you will have to donate to get to 20 carcasses.

If you start donating and run out of room and think you can go do a mission so when you come back there will be room you're most likely going to run out of time and the counter will reset and you'll have to start over.

I've been bitten by this a couple of times.

If you have lots of room to donate, you can stack 5 large or 7 medium carcasses in the hunting wagon, then you can put 1 large or larger medium carcass on the back of your horse plus the 2 mediums you can hang off the sides.

Then kill and drag another deer into camp to begin the cycle.

If the dailies include both the '20 carcasses in 10 minutes' and '10 small carcasses' you can easily wrangle it to do these two last.

Make sure you have 8 role dailies done and plenty of room to donate, and plan your donations so you do 10 medium & large first, then donate 10 small carcasses to finish both dailies at once.

That way you should actually get paid the gold for 10/9 instead of 9/9.

Another variation is to do the '6 perfect carcasses' and 10 small, 7 medium, or 6 large carcasses. Just make sure again that you have 8 role dailies done already, and then do any combination to finish both dailies with the last donation.

The only thing to be wary of is that the game is broken and good carcasses can count as perfect while poor medium carcasses can count as small carcasses. 🙄

Lols, I've done that before too!

Now I look at the thing , or try to remember to   ;)

I am now hoarding small animals.  The game seems to have decided to give me either the small animals or donate 20 carcasses (or both) challenges every day.  3 days running now.

It's a good general policy to keep as many of these at hand as possible, also you'll need to have a variety of meats - game, big game, mutton, prime beef, venison, plump bird, exotic bird which is pelican, crustacean which is the land crabs)and fish - flaky fish (perch, pickerel) or succulent fish  (trout or salmon) - for cooking dailies.

And to make the seasoned fish and meats you'll naturally need to have picked a quantity of the herbs needed.

Each herb imparts different enhancements to the finished dish, most popular is mint for the extra health (minty big game gives gold health core).

Thyme enhances deadeye. (thyme big game gives gold deadeye core)

There's really a fair bit of depth to the crafting system, one of the reasons I like the game.

They could (should!) really do a lot more with it. We can hope...

I just shoot small birds whenever they show up and keep em... When that particular daily drops, I mostly need just a few more to complete the daily...

Another thing to watch is when you're riding around and you get a random kill notification when your horse runs over an animal or bird, unless you're short on time to do something specific, stop and pick it up.

Usually it's just a rabbit, but the pelt is good for the '20 donations' daily, as is anything including feathers, teeth/horns/claws, antlers.

Other times it's a small bird, squirrel, chipmunk.

Sure, they're only poor quality, but if you get in the habit of stashing these it's so much easier to complete the dailies later, and you can use them for 'break down 5 small animals' if you don't have or don't have time to catch some fish.

The list of potential dailies is on the first page of the daily challenge thread, so it's good to check and see hat you're short on.

It may sound like a lot of tedious book keeping work to keep track of all this stuff, but once you get used to thinking about this stuff, it becomes second nature, and the game will actually feel a lot less tedious later on when you need these for a daily and you're already prepared, so you can just go about your preferred game style without having to go looking for these things at least.

Keeping the game as casual as possible is what I find prevents it from becoming a huge grind.

I have done the grind (filling crate warehouses in GTA) and I'm not interested in doing that again. It just isn't fun.

Sometimes you have to grind a bit to get to a certain place in the game to allow you to unlock something that lets you enjoy the game more, but other than that it shouldn't feel like work.

Some folks enjoy the grind, that's fine, you do get a feeling of accomplishment after reaching a plateau you wanted to hit, but most of us don't, at least not all the time.

And there has to be a real goal to grind to, that's what's lacking right now.

After you unlock everything, have a comfortable stash of money & gold, what then?

Squirrels, frogs, small birds, etc. I collect them every time I see them. I never donate them until the daily challenges require this type of donation. I have many in my satchel for future challenges. They are pretty common if you know where to look.

Speaking of herbs, I would love to see the doctor get some kind of much-needed "usage" or purpose in the game.

I never visit him anymore to sell herbs; that didn't last long anyway at only 25 cents/herb--just an epic waste of time and effort.

I think R* means to make selling herbs at Dr, meat at butcher and furs (with a few exceptions) at Gus something you only do as a noob.  In part because of the selling slowdown that kills any usefulness of selling even if you ride in front of them, and in part because there are far more efficient ways to earn money.

.4 gold, when you reset it (the award, for selling herbs to the doctor)  ;)  I only found out about this the other night, getting 17 gold total from resetting all of the ones I could

(having played since the beta of online, but never knowing about this... dumb me!  ;) ) Kills me how many times I've probably missed

out on about 17 gold, since they added that (all of the wasted time, just sitting at max herbs sold/max meat sold to butcher, etc.

instead of "resetting for .4 gold", which I think you can do a total of TEN TIMES for each one? )

So, that was exactly what I was doing last night after resetting it. I was in St. Denis selling/buying various things at shops that

I'd have to do anyway.

It beats the way I used to do it, of just "discarding" some herbs when I got a full stack so I could pick more for a particular daily/whatever.

I'm always at max stack, or near, of SO many herbs.

My only wish is that there was a "SELL HALF" option, instead of sell one at a time (which eventually causes it to "hang") or sell the entire stack.

I think at least one of those was just

"20 donations", rather than "20 small carcasses."

Make SURE you notice the difference, since "20 donations" can be FEATHERS or ANYTHING!

That makes it WAY easier, plus you can sell the 20 small animals/whatever for when they are actually requested.

For example, the other day it was

"20 donations"

"6 large animal carcasses"

So as my #9 role daily, I turned in 14 feathers at the camp table and

then 6 large carcasses, so got 10/9 role dailies!

The barn of the "hanging dog ranch " spawns rats between  23:00- 4:00.(only once a day)  can collect up to 9 in one go.

Tips: get in by side windows to prevent rats to flock out of  the gate

Excellent tip, I might stock up and save them in the pouch.

and yeah X, 10 is the limit for the resets.

Well, technically it's 9 resets.

When you're completing the 10th group you get nothing at the end, so it's a waste of time thinking about it after the 9th reset.

It still gives you the notification when you complete it, but it's quite a let down when you open it up expecting anything in return.  😒
