Will GTA Online EVER Receive A Map Expansion?

Title. Even with a new heist location there’s still no map expansion. If there would’ve been one I would’ve bought a shark card just to support that kind of content but as there is no map expansion I’m not buying one. Obviously GTA 6 will have a whole new map but will GTA Online ever receive a map expansion before GTA 6? Why or why not? I think no because at this point it’s too late. There will probably be more heists but they will likely be located in Los Santos or perhaps other small islands that are heist exclusive. I sure hope I’m wrong though! I would love a map expansion someday.

Only on the next gen versions now. They might add Liberty City for the next gen versions. We can only hope.

I do think there could be a 50/50 chance we could receive a map expansion, but it’ll only be for next gen if it does happen. Look at how Cyberpunk 2077 runs on the PS4 and Xbox One. Those consoles were garbage on day one. Based on hints by Spider-Vice Rockstar may have wanted to have the island be in free roam but couldn’t because of the abysmal hardware of the last gen consoles. I highly doubt we’d get something like Liberty City, just small islands.

I believe GTA 6 is nearer than we believe, thus no, it would make little sense to spend so many resources on it. That's my 2 cents

Even another huge map expansion couldn't make GTA Online interesting to me, because game balance issues and monetization have eroded it so badly.

 

Read: new terrain with the same crappy gaming experience. Map expansions don't generate long-term game play--they're simply an empty container for it.

 

But R* is still making money; why should they care? *facepalm*

I severely doubt that they'll add anything to GTA Online as long as it works off the GTAV game engine.  Perhaps GTA:O2 will have expandable maps when they eventually migrate over to that instead of an HD Vice City (or London)

Gta 6 isn’t coming out anytime soon bud give up on that dream. You really rockstar going to spend all this money on music license just to have a game release in the next 2 years or 3. We’re going to be stuck in ls until 2025

You seem to be forgetting that these licenses last 10 years, meaning that in a few years the original songs are gonna go away. They can buy the licenses back or they can just replace some old radio stations with the ones they're releasing now, thus saving hassle and money, considering they won't just close GTA Online down when 6 comes out (GTA IV multiplayer is still available, and Rockstar don't even make any money out of it, so of course they're gonna leave GTA Online open for any Shark Card buyers even years after VI comes out)

I'm sick of hearing about map expansions.  Stop this BS!  You people need to start demanding DLCs that offer QOL fixes to better the game instead of just more space to use the same sh*t mechanics.

It's possible to see some kind of expansion, but highly, highly doubtful. The resources it would take would likely draw from the focus on a GTA6 product and the ROI would not justify the expense. Rockstar isn't interested in making a better GTA5, but rather to keep milking the existing product with DLC that leverages existing assets. 

To be honest, I'm really surprised we're still seeing new context for GTAO. The addition of submarines, to me, is stupid and serves no point to enhance the existing gameplay. But, I'm not a fan of Night Clubs, either. For my time and GTA$, the Casino was the best implementation in the latter years.

Anyhow, a long winded way to say, "I doubt we'll ever see an expansion map." lol!

I doubt it, a new city would require too much work and its a 7 year old game. Adding a generic island is much easier

I believe we will have to wait for gta 6 to release, and then it will come to standalone alone, wherever the location is.

Not on last gen, once the PlayStation 5 version comes out I still doubt they'll waste their time...they could just put all the resources and time of making a new map into a new GTA game.

Well personaly I expect them to build on Cayo Perico. And why shouldnt they.

According to sources it took them a year to craft the island and the heist. There are many eastereggs that I'm not sure you can get to during the scope/heist.

It would be a waste to not expand on this.

All they have to do is just play any of the Far Cry games and borrow their ideas. Being attacked by a panther while running toward a jeep would be awesome! lol!

‘Couldn’t have said it better. Adding new map expansions would do nothing considering what they’ve done to this game. By the way that creature is nightmare fuel.

Could you imagine the GTA$ players would have to cough up to buy all the new vehicles, properties, weapons, businesses, etc. that would come with an expansion?
