RO-86 Alkonost Appreciation & Discussion Thread

So I may have accidentally found a good use for this thing...I was doing prep work with some friends of mine yesterday and I decided to kamikaze the plane into the submarine (which was not damaged before) as joke thinking the explosion would barely damage it. To my surprise the Kosatka made a 180 turn and exploded with its belly up.

Is the copilot/passenger seat in this broken? We couldn't figure out how to get a second person in it. The warstock page says it seats two.

Whats weird, the plane does not have an entering animation in freemode.

However when you enter it during the prep, it does have one.

I truly hate this plane. As someone who models things in his freetime, it really frustrates me that someone probably got paid a lot of money to work on this thing. There is simply no way it could be worse than it currently is. No entering animation, it is not possible to seat more than one player, it sits 1 feet above the ground, it looks kinda weird, it is really slow and it has no flexible wings despite correct dummy placement. This thing is awful.

Huh? When I entered in the prep mission, inside the hangar, there was no animation.

There is an entering animation actually, but to trigger that animation, the plane has to be 3 feet higher off the ground. I'm not even kidding :kekw: I do agree with everything else though, this plane is a rushed mess.

So this thing has a rear cargo area apparently. Going first person in the Percio heist while using the Alkonost as an entry vehicle shows that it has an operable rear cargo door, and it can hold 6 people total (2 in front, 4 in rear). Does this same concept operate in freemode or is the cargo door locked off?

This plane actually has 10 seats in total. But in freemode, it is not possible to get into any other seat than the pilot seat as far as I know.

They could have at least put the wings in their swept back operating position. It looks like it’s coming in for a landing all the time.

By removing all weapons (in this case bombs because that's all it has), will that give the pilot the ability to use passive mode?

 

Good examples are Sasquatch, Scarab, Deluxo, and certain aircraft that come weaponless.

I would like to make this plane a government drone but don't want to get shot down by orbital cannons.

Beautiful plane but it sucks ass.

How I would improve it;

Add the Starlings boost mode that causes the wings to fold in and R)-86 to travel at the max speed the game can handle. Faster than any missile or rocket. Puts plane in Stealth Mode when bosting but it keeps the high altitude Stealth as well.
Unlimited Bombs
Add "Smart Bombs" which as just Guided Missiles fired down

Can carry passengers

All these large bombers should have infinite bombs as standard. Other aircraft have infinite homing missiles which are let's face it, more effective than bombs.

I think merely adding a target reticle on our minimap that could work as bombsights would work much better than infinite bombs.

 

 

And the problem with bombers in this game is aiming them to hit your targets, infinite bombs won't work here if you cant hit them.

 

They also gotta fix the cluster bombs too.

That would be way more fitting, but what wouldn't be fitting is getting the server crashed by 30 Cargo Planes doing a nosedive into LSC in Vinewood :kekw:

I stripped it from weaponry, yet Passive Mode is not available for it.

I thought that was a Last Gen problem?

 

And the real issue with the Cargo Plane is a logistics one, it can only take off and land from Los Santos airport without any problems.

That is definitely true - odd how Story Mode wanted us to land that big boi at McKenzie Field...

Nothing larger than a 737 realistically fits in the hangar. The Alkonost is about 20% larger than a 737, and it would have no way of getting in or out in reality. Anything larger starts to have takeoff and landing issues outside of LSIA. The Volatol for example takes extra care to not clip rocks at SSAF, and the Alkonost requires absolute precision to not clip the signs at Zancudo and LSIA. Something the size of a 737 is about the perfect size for ‘large’ personal aircraft. For comparison, a 737 is roughly the same size as the Bombushka. 
 

I think it’d be neat to get a customisable smaller narrow-body corporate jet to have as an aerial Terrorbyte like how the Avenger is an aerial MOC. Some sort of mini-Air Force One where we can access our business supply levels and start source missions. Large enough to have a modelled interior we can walk around in, but small enough we can land at any airfield without issue.

I tried this out today - it's awesome! You can use it to go from horizontal flight to full vertical in a second. I found it works best when the engines are on full power.

 

It makes possible some quite crazy and creative acrobatics, for example pulling out of turns and loops at low levels that would otherwise end very badly.

 

I'm still disappointed with this plane, it could easily have been much better in so many ways, but at least there's this trick. Even if it's pysically wildly unrealistic!

Are there any vehicles that can get in and fit in the Cargo area of this paperweight, like the Bombshuka and the PV Titan?

 

Because if you can put cars in there, then that could be a potential use for it + off radar.

Seeing as this is specifically used in a HALO Drop Stealth mission it should have given anyone that jumped out of it OTR until they touch the ground. Imagine some fool is sniping people off a building and your friend OTR drops behind him and his only warning is the dot that appears behind him just before the shotgun blast.

It think this happens because of the humongous size of both vehicles.
