Perfect Dark | The Initiative | Crystal Dynamics

So, the much anticipated project from Xbox Studio's The Initiative has finally been revealed. Rumours had it was an espionage/stealth game set in the Perfect Dark world. Well, it's seems those rumours were true. It's Perfect Dark reboot.

The Initiative is a studio built up from from a dream-team of senior devs, writers and staff from Naughty Dog, Crystal Dynamics, and well as Rockstar Games and is headed by Darrel Gallagher ex head of Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics.

It's really hard to see this fail given the sheer level of talent behind the the project.

Also, you can play the second one on Game Pass. It looks great for a title that launched with the 360.

It has nothing in common with the original Perfect Dark on N64, the comic style graphic totally ruins it.

Man i wish there would be just a real remake of the original Perfect Dark, just with 2020 graphics, and without comic style. That is horrible.

Yeah it would be awesome having the same solo campaign and the same multiplayer again. Maps like "Complex" and "Facility" were just so awesome. Could imagine having fun playing that online against others, including the Laptop-Rifle, Avenger, etc. that would be my dream come true game. Nostalgia with good graphics and sound.

Yeah the original team for perfect dark is pretty hard to beat. It was the spiritual sequel to goldeneye and oh boy goldeneye still is one of the best first person shooters I ever played.

Linear single player shooters are tricky these days so I'll be curious to see how this plays tbh. Modern games in that genre tend to get a lot of token progression and "modern" features like that which often get half arsed cause it's not really meant to be an RPG or whatever and it just bogs them down more than anything. Couple that with a hours per $/£/€ being something developers and publishers have on their mind a lot (hence the bloated game lengths in recent years, cough Ubisoft cough) there's always the risk of too much filler content.

Saying this, I do think a game like this is being made by the right company in Microsoft. They can take risks they otherwise wouldn't be able to cause of the Games Pass model.

I must admit that I was surprised we didn't hear anything about this at the recent Microsoft presentation was expecting to see something about it.

News.

Crystal Dynamics is partnering with The Initiative to develop Perfect Dark. There links where there before, it's not a huge surprise as Darrel Gallagher was previously head of art at CD and is now studio head at The Initiative.

Perfect Dark is also still in early development. So, I'm guessing we might see GTA VI before Perfect Dark.

The way things are going with Rockstar we will play with and get tired of PD way before there is even a trailer for GTA VI.

So many of you probably heard there has been a mass exodus at The Initiative. This is true. A bunch of senior staff have left but I think it sounds worse than it is. Given the nature of the issue, the fact that people have left, should actually be the end of a sort of stalemate that was existing at the company.

While details are a bit vague and slightly confusing, apparently there were two camps; those that wanted to expand The Initiative and have the likes of Crystal Dynamics brought in - I think MS were part of this camp. And then there were those that wanted to keep The Initiative more small and "independent."

It's also my understanding that it's those that wanted to expand who have stayed on and like this new plan in place for the company. Those that wanted it to remain kind of small and indie have left.  I can empathize with those that have left. There is something to be said about having a smaller team where it's easier for your voice to be heard and ideas becoming diluted down the line.

However, it seemed work was stalling, so expanding and implementing a plan, is better.
