TheSantader25
Truly an amazing award show for the end of 2020. Really deserving of this year to have that game as its GOTY. Alright back to Cyberpunk. Edited December 11, 2020 by TheSantader25 Zello
Commander S
No surprise for GotY - when the criteria are 'big-budget action game with Hollywood-style photorealism and eye-wateringly-expensive production values', then TLoU2 was the absolute standout this year. Heck, even if Cyberpunk had made the deadline, it still wouldn't have been the best at ticking those particular boxes - not when compared to the animations and physics simulation in TLoU2. Granted, that narrow vision of what games 'should' be, where peak-"AAA" = "Game of the Year" is why smaller, less Realistic™ things like Disco Elysium, Hades, Return of the Obra Dinn, etc. are lucky to just get nominated for the big award, but ehh, that's not going to change until the larger culture around games gets over the whole 'we want to be taken seriously, like film/TV' inferiority complex. And ...f*** that happening any time soon - GTA VI will have ray tracing and an entire third-party physics engine just for characters' bowel movements, and ...the plot of a so-so HBO miniseries stretched to 60+ hours, so GET HYPE. ...*ahem*. Bit miffed the rumours about Perfect Dark being third-person (and possibly episodic, like a cross between Hitman 2016 and Splinter Cell) didn't turn out to be true - yeah, I'm still interested (maybe it'll lean more immersive sim-y, like a spy thriller answer to Dishonored), but the whole 'episodic thing coming out on December 24th' rumour got my hopes up, and now I've got bog-all new to play until probably April... Absolutely dogsh*t in every single other aspect. That's the first Black Desert and I will be shocked if it's any different here. Also, best trailer of the show by a mile was It Takes Two. Tons of heart, great voice acting, great variety. Looks brilliant

D9fred95
I feel like Mafia: Definitive Edition should've been nominated for best story honestly. Even if it's retelling a story from two decades ago, Mafia's story is golden.

APB
The fact that Doom Eternal didn't win a thing... That fact alone... Fu*k this sh*tty ceremony. GOTY awards are yearly, Doom is Eternal. TheSantader25, Mr. Scratch and Th3MaN1 2
Shadowfennekin
Woke of Us 2 bought out the rewards just like with all the '10/10's lol Obvious this stuff was utter trash after RDR 2 lost to f*cking Fortnite, which did NOT come out that year at all! I feel like if the story was almost a 1-to-1 recreation of the original along with the new elements that Hanger 13 added into the remake then it would've been a strong contender. They changed certain elements around that makes the story suffer (cutting out the buildup to the bank heist comes to mind) but they improved in several other areas. For example, I personally don't like how the ending was changed to Tommy thinking about how "family is forever" over the theme of how it comes down to the individual being the best person they can be while keeping the harshness of reality in your mind that the original ending had. That was some quality writing right there. If the remake kept that then it would've been fantastic.

But just one unnecessary (and contradicting) change to highlight: why does Paulie shoot the other guy in the neck in the car wreck at the end of Better Get Used To It? In the original he isn't shot at all making his survival more likely. Don't tell me that a guy who has been through a rather serious crash has been shot in the neck and then he holds a (flawless) speech a week later in a church with just a bad arm. Yeah and frankly I hope that trend goes away or gets it's own category. They really need to open up that category to games made with less budget. And believe me I am the last person to like indie games because I could only enjoy a few of them but sometimes games with less budget are just too good to ignore. Wasn't it Billy who he shot? I know when I first saw it I was rather confused too. I think the cinematography of that scene could've been done way better. Not just on the gunshot but also how Tommy holds the gun too. The both versions of the car wreck in the original had some sort of "look how huge this gun is" angle when Tommy contemplates executing Billy. They actually use it in the DE too when Tommy is about to execute Sergio and he runs out of bullets. They should've done that here too because it's such a powerful moment.
