Doesn't seem to be a way to disable it since the update unless I'm missing something. Not good for an OLED display! UPDATE: Nevermind, it was temporary. Well i was able to drop it after i put it on my horse and then took it off my horse. For your problem i would try fast traveling, death or anything that causes a loading screen. I had the same thing happen to me yesterday and i think loading screens is what fixed it.
