Algonquin Assassin
I have to admit the lead up to GTA V was probably more exciting than the game itself in some ways lol. The best period was 2011-2012 IMO just after it was announced. Hard to think it's been nearly a decade, but I'll never forget the pre-release hysteria, theories etc. suicidal_banana, ddarko12, Kerminator369 and 13 others

D T
Someone should make a game based off the first trailer. I think it'd be really good. Dr Busta, god speed, NightmanCometh96 and 5 others 5
Darkel2001
In hindsight, R* probably should have done Vice City on PS4/Xbone with an accurate Miami, Everglades, Keys, Disney World parody, and a nearby Cuba-like island that the player unlocks halfway through. Then for PS5/Series X maybe we could have gotten a full-blown next gen San Andreas like this with the same or better physics of IV. Imagine going from city to city and the radio stations change. Maybe in an alternate universe somewhere... Kerminator369, Catsooey and Patrizio
JiaHengK
To be fair, when the game first came out, I felt that the GTA V experience was fresh and unique for utilising three different characters as part of its story mode. Although the story wasn't exactly the best, it had memorable scenes and great moments. All in all, as the game is 7 years old, most of us are definitely washed out with the same repetitive stuff, and Rockstar re-releasing it for the PS5 definitely adds fuel to the fire as well. I remember the day the trailer came out and I was in school, came home to see it and was like "wtf" Didn't really join the hype train til around May 2012 though because of that who "2405" thing. What an interesting summer. This forum was quite entertaining. I think there a point pre-launch where I had started to question my hype though. The gameplay trailers were pretty promising. But then the map leaked. The whole map. And I was kind of scratching my head. I was pretty unimpressed LOL. And then I distinctly remember the gameplay video where they showed the purchasing of properties, and this was clearly moments before they began their tease for GTA:Online. And I looked at the map and there were 0 properties. I asked Rockstar Support, and they said you wouldn't be able to buy residential properties in SP (even though the gameplay trailer showed it). And then something leaked displaying the car list. And again I was sort of like "that's it/these look half-assed" I think it was when my hype sort of just tumbled to "let's see how this game is." When my pre-order came in, I was hooked pretty much. Something felt off, but I kept playing and thought I enjoyed it. But the game over the weeks just started to feel very unfinished, it felt like there were too many oversights, a lot of the cars (the heart of the game) seemed like fillers especially the exotics. I mean, the exotics were THE cars to have in GTA IV. Practically all of them had unique interiors and details and sounds. And in GTA V they looked sort of like kids toys. And the normal cars, something that really makes the game and brings it to life... just felt like forgettable fillers. I mean, I like boring cars. I love driving them fast and using them for missions and they all just felt like bricks on wheels with no personality. So many bad cars, such soulless handling, over the weeks to a couple of months it turned me off so much I just sort of stopped playing. It wasn't just the cars. The story seemed, mediocre, especially the ending. The countryside was laid out in a way that got old very quick. No seclusion, no reason to go out there, it sucked. No unique properties, interiors. No real interactive activities. The satire was lame, the talk radio was cringey, the commercials were unfunny, the cops didn't say funny lines and were overpowered, the peds said the same thing too often and it was overly obnoxious. Whenever you tried to relax, something stupid would happen. Like those random cop chases popping up behind you and the cop car almost always rams into you and then you get a wanted level and the chill atmosphere is gone. Or you're just cruising and because of the horrible traffic paths and programming, drivers just ram/merge into you or swerve into your lane in corners because something in the code makes them think you're oncoming when you're still in your lane and they start swerving. It just got to be a mess. And then over the years obviously it turned into this thing of playing only bc of the new DLC. And then they made it so that the new cars were exclusive to GTA:Online and so you had to get into that BS and grind to experience them. It... was a serious disappointment. Really, this game really seemed like what they called "end game" and it wasn't. It was a joke. And my expectations in 2012 weren't extraordinary. They were like "I want the detail of IV with the countryside, more cars/exotic cars and an excellent story and lots of attention to detail" and I just didn't get it. So why am I still here well, I have to say I've been seriously hooked on GTA V lately. But for obvious reasons. Picked it up for PC this July after getting a pretty great gaming laptop. And well... I've just got to changing everything. I mean... everything. The sad thing is. The mods I've downloaded/done aren't really anything crazy or over the top. Nothing that Rockstar couldn't do. Most of them were fixes or simply expanded on what Rockstar did. I don't care for unlore mods or anything stupid crazy or over the top. The only things I've really added have been houses/more interiors (most of them the ones Rockstar had locked after missions), lore cars, improved existing cars, etc. Better lighting, scripts that stop stupid sh*t like those random cop chases, better popgroups so that more cars spawn in traffic, etc. The mod menyoos remind me of old school GTA cheats. No stupid time limit to invincibility. Cars can fly. You can roleplay. There's so much. So in a way, now it does feel like I have the game I anticipated. But... that's simply because it's modded. This is not the base game. And I can't exactly share this with everyone as most people are on consoles so it's just like... It really shouldn't have to be that way. And despite that, I still can't fix things like the story or the shoddy map layout, etc. But at least it feels like an actual GTA game. iiCriminnaaL, Algonquin Assassin, Yinepi and 4 others 6

Americana
Good old times, when I had at least some hope for the game. Sadly, I was never that into this game because of the settings. I mean... Los Santos, seriously? Boring. Also, I remember how we all wanted it to be more than Los Santos. I really hoped for San Fierro, and maybe Las Venturas. But... I was hyped, because it is a Grand Theft Auto game, nonetheless. I remember when we got these two first screenshots... totally out of the blue. I was so happy, even though one of them was totally awful. Edited December 12, 2020 by Americana Patrizio and Rotorhead359

Most of their games are rehashes with zero creativity. CDPR? TW3 was amazing but Cyberpunk 2077 has problems. Rockstar is still Nr.1, no one beats their attention to detail.
