So, have the security concerns with modders seeing your personal info been addressed?

Anywhere I post about this it gets removed, which is really odd. Ignoring it doesn't make the problem go away.

 

Seems like this would be a bigger story than it is, which is to say... It isn't one. Nobody is really talking about this.

Probably "nobody's talking about it" because when the conversation gets going, people realise that an IPV4 address is actually public information already, and that the likelihood of being able to find someone's address of where they're operating out of is next to impossible - if the only information you've got is the IP address. Might be different if you're a company or something, but even so. 

 

I've used the same mod menu to attempt to find out where I am, and its wrong, only giving a general location rather than anything with accuracy. 

 

Other players being able to see this information has been around for more than 5 years in GTA Online because of how the game uses Peer to Peer networking, and the same could - at least initially - be said for any game that follows suit.

It was talked about but very unfounded. Being that GTA Online is a peer to peer game like many other online games, your IP address will always be exposed in some way, shape, or form, and they can't do much about it except use dedicated servers.

...so where do they get that information from? It only comes from the IP address... you don't give Rockstar Games your home address when you create an account with them, so where are they getting it then? 

They're cheats, made by cheaters. If they were that interested in "hacking", and thus getting anyone's actual information that way, they (surely?) could hack the Rockstar Servers and unban all the accounts they ever banned, or whatever?

Yea sorry but neither an IP address nor the 'whois' info attached to that is private data, and its a bit sad how the DarkViperAU guy has turned into a clickbait youtuber to get any attention these days (because people got sick of him ruining all his video's & streams with random political chat and his massive ego??) he essentially tries to create lots of drama lately (clearly not amused about re-re-release plans) while he actually has nothing to say.

If you wonder if cheaters can see your address, google for 'ip whois' and on the sites that you find you should be able to see the basic info thats tied to your IP address, for like 95% of the world law actually prohibits the whois info to be your personal home address, instead it should point to the office of your internet service provider, if it does contain actual personal data you should switch providers.

They don't see your address.

 

They see a rough estimate of where you live like the town or city, that's it. They then use that to scare people. They would have to break into your actual Internet Providers system if they wanted your actual address.

Lol no, never heard of the guy, just happened onto another video that referenced it, then I found the source video.

 

On a related note. I hate how GTA on PC is basically completely illigitimate. Literally more modders than non-modders because of how easy it apparently is. I killed someone using in-game weapons and to retaliate he just started auto killing me... Like why even play?

On PC it really is so easy anyone can do it. P2P servers are the problem, this company should be using dedicated servers especially for a game so big. They've got the money to do so. They need to figure out how to stop it because Freemode with randoms is just a minefield on PC.

I don't mind people seeing my IP, but with mods they can track you via social club and follow you into lobbies or crash your game to the desktop and stuff. It's a shambles.

You know it's bad when it's a breath of fresh air to find a lobby where everyone is killing each other with legitimate methods. Lol. 9/10 if you kill someone they insta-kill you and destroy your vehicle. 

 

Today I ran into the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. Someone was white knighting with a mod menu. I killed someone doing a shipment...aka...playing the game the way its meant to be, and they come in "OH IS HE BOTHERING YOU" I could just feel the god complex oozing off this beta... And within seconds my personal vehicle was destroyed and I was teleported into a cage, and they had god-mode on... LMFAO what a joke this game is on PC.

 

Protections for this kind of thing would be simple for R* to implement because most of the paid mod menus have anti-modder options in the menus. They really are doing the bare minimum with this game.

And this is the sole reason I never grief (read: destroy cargo). Trust me, sometimes I want to grief people, especially MC deliveries, I hate those with a passion (don't ever ask me for help with those), and I believe no one should be doing those, but I'm afraid to get pwned by white knight modders, so I'll behave.
