Anyone found pics/video of the customization options yet?

Surely someone on PC has gotten their hands in this by now?

Got to drive it around the island during scope out for a good 10 minutes. Feels a lot better than the current Patriot, it actually reminds me of the SA Patriot handling wise, very heavy but also quite maneuverable. I really hope we can put some kind of cover on the back..

You know what's the weirdest thing about the Squaddie?

No it's not the looks, though i think it'd contribute to it.

It's the model itself.

The number of polygons (which are used in modeling 3d vehicles) in the Itali RSX, a tru, bona fide modern Ferrari-based supercar has 101K polies. That's kind of low when it comes to highly detailed supercars like such.

The number of polygons in this, "very-aerodynamic swooping-body-line" BOX of a vehicle?

130K.

Wow.

Another oddity about the model is that it seems that the front end is much, much older than the rest of it. Since the front deforms in crashes, and the rest doesn't. Whack the cab or rear end into a tree and all that happens is that the tailgate breaks. Whack the front into a tree and it smushes in like the Patriot does.

They definitely just gave a spitshine to the beta Squaddie from pre-2013. The rear is where they did the most work updating it, so it has the newer deformation physics.

How did I not know there was a whole thread on the Squaddie?! I really hope to see some mod options soon. I literally was saving up my GTA$ for this very vehicle. :p

Has anyone tested the capacity on this thing? No matter where I tried to approach the bed it always let me sit at the very rear of the benches, so perhaps it only seats 4? Or it's scripted so that you can only seat in the front part of the benches once the rear is full?

unfortunately it only seats 4 - driver and passenger in the front, and 2 passengers at the very back

Rockstars have ruined all HMMWV proportions. Real HUMMER has 1.8m height, what makes his silhouette so unique. And Squaddie is about 2m. This ugly truck has nothing common with the real prototype

Mammoth Squaddie has many customization option. But, there's no 4 door option. CRYING

I think there will be a four door version of the vehicle at some point.

Many of those customization options don't make sense for the 2 door version. The decent selection of military options do, but a lot of those customization options are obviously for a civilian H1 style truck. Similar to how the patriot and the patriot stretch share customization options, I think its a good indicator that at least one more version is coming.

I'll live with the 2 door version for now, but I suspect they will add more versions. 4 door with no weapons, and 4 door with a turret would be best. They could even weaponize the 2 door variant into the M1097.

I am actually kinda curious with how this thing feels/drives/looks/etc.

I've driven and worked on thousands of these things irl. Literally thousands. And let me tell you, they basically suck ass in all situations lol.

Fun fact: If your friend gets in the back, they will open the tailgate and go in that way, closing it after they sit down.

You can drive them during the recon phase of the heist for however long you want. There's 2 or 3 always parked near the airport.

It obviously handles far better than IRL.

Its based on the old M1038 and not the new M1152 so you have really basic interior without the AC. Of course, R* still lets players use the radio.

Customization options are already available for preview via modders. Healthy mix of HMMWV and GM H1 style options.

Fording kit actually works too.

Sound is meh. R*'s Diesel sounds have always been trash.

This Squaddie handles far better than the real deal.. unless maybe we're talking the new Mil-Spec ones. In game Squaddie is fast to accelerate,  great handling.. everything the real HMMWV doesn't have. Ha. I own a 1987 HMMWV which is why I was excited they were bringing this in game. Still want to see the 4 door hard top variation at some point.

Ha! I like how two very knowledgeable people responded immediately lol. That doesn't happen too often.

Yeah I figured it was gonna be faster and better handling than the real deal. Just starting the heist stuff now.

I kinda have a love/hate relationship with these things.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Humvee break the 70 MPH barrier. I got up to 80 on the runway with no problem in a Squaddie, so that probably tells you all you need to know.

It feels wrong to say, but I think the Glendale is the best sounding diesel in the game. At least the idle sounds somewhat correct.

For what it is meant to be, a cargo Humvee for the National Guard based on the beta screenshot, I think R* did a great job with it. Far and above better than what could have been with the beta vehicle. Makes perfect sense too, the Guard uses those things everywhere IRL.

The most disappointing thing to me is the paints, just the god awful standard gunrunning liveries available. No Fort Zancudo camo, no NATO 3 tone, no MERDC, not even a scheme used by the dozens of nations that have Humvees in service. Didn't even get basic stars like the Kamacho got.

Hopefully that changes when they add the 4-door variants.

Whoa whoa whoa.... Never seen one break the 70 mph barrier? My HMMWV (barely) reaches 60. I feel the need to back off at 55. :p 0-60 in roughly 30 seconds. Squaddie definitely made the vehicle much more fun to drive in game than real life. However... I'm not here just to bash on the HMMWV.. This is probably the most badass vehicle I have ever owned and will own it for the rest of my life. That said, once released I'll for sure grab one off of Warstock.

Took the liberty of taking some photos of this "new" truck, @WildBrick142 you can use these if you want to.

I was surprised with how well this truck drives, I'm definitely picking it up when it comes on sale.

I find it stupid how the truck bed only fits two players, there's clearly room for 4 players there.

Handling is surprisngly sharp even though the truck also feels heavy, 180 turns on gravel are no problem to it, can also pickup some decent speed unlike the Vapid Winky.

And now for the interior, which surprised me the most:

Unique seats

There are three pull up buttons there by steering wheel, "throttle" which I assume is to help start the car, "lights" for the headlights and taillights, and a "choker" for those rough cold starts, I also liked how the dashboard isn't lazily copied and pasted from another car, its unique.

Readable tags withing the driver-side door, there are two other tags by the gauges but they aren't readable.

Here are some fun facts. The 3 knobs are neat details, but inaccurate ones. Firstly, they don't have chokes because they are diesels. Only carbuerated vehicles have chokes and humvees don't have carbs. The light switch should be a rotory style switch, not a pull style. The throttle one though, that is a real thing on all of them. It's not usually a knob, its like a small handle under the dash. Its literally just a direct connection to the throttle so you can rev the engine up when its cold, to heat up the inside faster. Can also be used for diagnosing engine problems. Soldiers get in trouble for using it as a makeshift cruise control when on the highway. It doesn't disengage when you hit the brakes though lol.

Those stickers though? Literally carbon copies of the ones on the real trucks.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't used the choker of my two old beaters I used to own back in the day, for the exact same thing until their engines were warmed up LOL

There's also a vertical lever near the center of the dashboard, more to the side of the passenger...No idea what's that for though.

thanks :santa: those are some nice screenshots.

i love the customizations on this thing. kinda makes me glad it was cut from the game, we would just have had a boring crusader mk ii otherwise. rockstar really did it justice.

though i noticed a bug with one the bullbars (dual lights), they don't light up. every single other bullbar AND even the roof rack lights do light up, it's just that one random bullbar that's broken lol. also i wish i could remove the bullbar entirely, would love to make it look closer to its beta version.

So from what I've Read on multiple YouTube videos, a lot of people are disappointed with this, myself included. We need a Four door version at some point, and it needs an actual canopy cover; not just canopy bars.

And before R* tries that crap of "oh we can't get a canopy to fit the Squaddie" just get the Barracks canopy and resize it.

Fun truck. Tried it on the island in the scope out mission and it handles the terrain with no drama. I would prefer a classic 4 door variant with possible gun and armour options aswell.

Spoiler

Hummer EV parody when?!

I definitely agree with this. Probably would've been the same case for the Winky too had it been in the game from the start.

Based on the videos and pictures I've seen for this thing, I'm extremely happy with the Squaddie, and obviously it sucks that they made it drip-feed. And of course like you guys, I hope we get 4-door versions (pick-up, wagon, slant back) in the near future. I want it all!

Potentially unpopular opinion, but I think this might be our Patriot Classic, and if that's the case I would be okay with that. I would still prefer something more like that mod that people have shown, but the Squaddie is what I like to see in a Humvee rip-off, even if it's originally based off the Hummer H2.
