"Cayo Perico" - Island Loading

Everything in open worlds are streamed in, when you are in Los Santos the town behind Mount Chilliad is not loaded in

 

They could techinically have infinite islands as long as they all are so far apart that the previous one loads out before the next one loads in. Storage space would then be the only (potential) problem.

Maybe they are building total recall at the casino, and we wont actually be going anywhere.

I’ll like this. Similar to in SA when you fly to Liberty City for 1 mission. 
 

You fly out to sea from LS, after a minute you getting a loading screen, then you spawn into the new map and it takes another 30 seconds of flying across the sea to get see the visible island.

They might take the Bury the Hatchet approach. I'm fine with a loading screen, but of course, seamless loading would be nice.

Submarine will be the access point to the island and for the heist.

 

I still stand with what I said months ago: the island won't be accessible on free roam due to console limitations. If we were talking about PS5/XSX, I'd be more inclined to speculate on the island being on free roam.

As of now the game won't utilize the extra power at all, you'll have to wait till next year for that

I figure they'll put it far enough out into the ocean that itll unload the mainland. It'll probably take a minute or two to even fly there. And  If you want to get there instantly, you can take your yacht.

Costs 25k to move it around LS. I reckon it'll cost 500k to take it to an Island. In fact, no, near 1 million.

I think that we can expect a cutscene. 

Like, after the final mission we get a "Go to the Cayo Perico" option in the phone calls. If we call it - we watch a cutscene where our GTA Online character fly on the plane out of LS, and next we spawn at the island airport.

 

Perhaps if you character have a yacht - you can move it from LS to the island coast too.

I'm fine with a mid-ocean loading screen to take you to a isolated new map, but if I can't fly the aircraft of my choice from Los Santos to Cayo Perico airstrip then it kinda kills the point of adding an island.

I would laugh if it is like Yankton and most of the island has no collision map, ie you cutscene in and cutscene out after you reach X

 

A tiny, disappointed laugh obv. But that's surely an option here :/

remember, it´s an island. You must have the chance to approach by air, sea and of course, under the sea. Pretty sure you need a jammer, not mobile but built in in the new vehicles, not to make people able to take any existing vehicle ;)

I think there will be a cutscene for the 1st time you go

 

but you wont be able to fly to it directly, load from the airport like buying a ticket.....or from submarine

So then it would not be a modification of the map, but a  spawning object like the carrier, Not my favorite, let´s get surprised.

Yes it ran on a PS3, I also mentioned the fact that putting an empty piece of land that only has some detailed textures and only about 1/4 of its extension actually has collision physics can be done on almost any console out there, this includes the PS3.

 

The problem is adapting that map to an online environment...The devs obviously wouldn't add North Yankton to the PS3 consoles because that would require them to finish the map, add some activities in there as just an empty map with nothing to do is not what the players would want, AND figure out how the hell the game could run both maps simultaneously without bricking the console, just a reminder: Last gen sessions only have 15 players but even then if you place about 4 to 5 Cargo Planes on the same spot the console will soft lock and you will need to start it again, that's how much weak the last gen consoles are.

 

Now, on current gen, 2020 GTA Online with all it's updates:

 

Yes you can make everything on the islands not be loaded in while you are very far away, that is true, but almost everything on those islands that isn't a texture still has to be loaded in because there can be another players in the session on those islands while you are far away, doing their own activities and some of those activities could be exclusive to those islands as well which means that the game needs to have those activities loaded in.

 

When the Aircraft Carrier is loaded in for that specific business battle, the frame rate gets chopped to half in the base current gen consoles because of all NPC scripted activities that appears in there + the high amount of player activity all packed in the same spot cripples the little RAM available left that the console can use.

 

The same can also happen with the chicken factory business battle all the way up there in Paleto Bay, even though you can be in Los Santos and Paleto Bay wouldnt be loaded in for you.

 

I have some doubts if the reason why the frame rate on consoles suffers so much is because of hardware performance, or maybe there is some kind of bugs going on with those events that reason in the sloppy FPS rates, but I am assuming it's a hardware issue.

 

My point here is: No, just because you could glitch North Yankton in the map of Online back in the days last gen consoles, it just doesn't mean that you can add a bunch of new islands in top of the San Andreas map, on 2020 current gen of GTA Online, without considering the setbacks of the underpowered current gen consoles.
