Waits for it to be like GTA sa, just fly east long enough and you get a cutscene, than you enter Saint Mark's Bistro. 

Flying off the map even though it's required, you can accidentally activate the Bayside gang territory. :)

After reading newswire text I'm starting to think it will be heist only. Which is exactly something RS would do. Yeah, we get huge free updates. But they will suck all fun from it.

Before the latest post & video i was convinced that it would be mission only on the current version of GTA:O and bolted onto freemode in the re-re-release (the usual "have you seen what the aircraft carrier does to consoles & older pc's?!" argument) but now im very much confused, but leaning towards "we will get it in freemode", based on this: 

1: "experience new social spaces to dance and party in with your friends"

Considering the performance hit of the aircraft carrier on some machines, if this is going to be part of freemode, it will be with a cutscene to get there, or so far away that the whole of SA is reduced to its most basic lod (forcing you to fly for 6-8minutes and then you get taken out by anti air lol) If its in freemode, how would it work with the existing parts of the game? police? mugger? vehicle delivery? merryweather pickup/assistance? yachts? orbital?

Maybe a few of the Yacht or Submarine locations will be around the island, and thats how you get there. Along with the mechanic or Pegasus not being able to deliver to the island. 
Maybe the airfield only serving a purpose in the heist.

I haven't the slightest idea on how this might work but I hope it is a separate map from Los Santos because the lag in-game is unbearable at times, I cannot imagine how bad it will get having a new map pasted in the same area as Los Santos.

It's totally gonna be explorable. "Experience new social spaces to dance and party in with your friends"? All the detailed roads and coastlines? There might be a buy-in or a loading screen, but yea, you'll be able to hang out

I actually think we'll get better than that, as in, new additions.

 

Working window wipers, actual rear view mirrors, petrol depletion, etc. Volumetric clouds as seen in RDR2, improved weather, darker nights, I could go on and on!

The most important thing is them solving the spaghetti coding, if they don't touch that then none of these new additions will matter in a couple of years.

Likely a load screen to get there. Similar to interiors, except instead of spawning in a room under the map, you spawn out on the island. The new room at the casino is gonna be the gateway, travel agency or similar, private jet cutscene, then spawn at the island. 

 

Freely explorable while you are there is my guess. I also think there will be purchasable properties with garages there and they will just say you can transfer a limited amount of vehicles over.

I reckon the sub is some kind of off-shore surveillance vehicle. Basically an underwater Terrorbyte. We'll be able to launch missions (and nukes :whistle:) and modify the NEW weapons, perhaps storage for a smaller aquatic vehicle.

 

Obviously all speculation, but thats what I reckon. We have always used properties to launch heists. Unless the submarine is static like the Yacht and classed as a property.

If the island is "far" enough away from the mainland couldn't they unload the main map and load this one fairly seamlessly, a bit like the Mantrap functions?

I would hope that the only things you can take there are your handheld weapons. Just make sure there are plenty of bikes and vehicles dotted around

I also believe we won't be able to take our own PVs there even by calling the mechanic, I mean there are no roads to drive to there.

 

I think we can buy a garage or storage in there and have the vehicles delivered to there so we can use them exclusively on the island, which would suck donkey balls.

 

Also maybe there will be a carrier express of shorts? The back of my Bombushka could useful for airlifting some of my PVs.

 

Maybe a ferry service as well?

I'm sure the island will only be available through a loading screen, with the El Rubio's fortress being off limits except for the heist, like the casino's vault.

 

Submarine will be the access point to the island and for the heist.

 

I still stand with what I said months ago: the island won't be accessible on free roam due to console limitations. If we were talking about PS5/XSX, I'd be more inclined to speculate on the island being on free roam.

North Yankton only has a collision model for roughly 1/4 of its extension, and only about the same length had detailed scenery and also it only had one single interior.

 

Not to mention the fact that the place is a ghost town whose most interesting and defining feature was the snowy climate...And that alien easter egg.

 

Just a piece of land with no other detail like that can be put in the map of pretty much any game out there without affecting much of the performance.

 

That's just not the way Rockstar does things though, if they adding a map extension to their games, they are also making said map extension to be a interesting place for players to go.

 

So yeah, not a reliable metric of what R* could do.

Due to the fact that the island is very likely to be on another country, it would be way too far away from LS and the USA, so they only way we could there is via trip skip which is just a covered loading screen.

 

I maintained the opinion that the island would be permanently on the map as a extra place to go, but after careful consideration reading their newswire article I came to the conclusion that the island will be a place we spawn on.

I believe the island will be fully explorable outside of the heist. I believe el Rubio's (or whoever the kingpin is) compound will be treated as a restricted area and guards kill you on site. To get to the island, I think there will be a loading screen activated by A. Lsia or B. The new submarine HQ. 

 

Additionally, I believe the casino construction is for a new "live" dj playing in a new dance room. I ferl a different "live" dj will be playing at the Cabana on the new island. I think on the left side of the map (east?) will be a small city which will offer new property to buy, probably an apartment or some sort of front. Best case scenario is its a luxurious city that factors in a mansion type feeling. 

 

I think the new weapons may be behind a pay wall  as well, connected to the submarine. 

 

The airport on the new island may actually be hostile as well, as it might tied into the drug smuggling and under the same restrictions as the el Rubio mansion. 

 

What do you guys think?

I am 50/50 on how they are going to load the map into the game. Both a loading screen as well as out at sea would require some significant changes to the game's code. This explanation is going to be technical.

 

1. It may be a loading screen that triggers when you fly far enough from the map. I managed to do this myself with my Liberty City map mod. It worked identical to the GTA Online map. In GTA Online, large chunks of Los Santos are completely disabled, and replaced with updated versions. For mine, I was able to disable the whole GTA V map. So you'd have the GTA Online version of the V map, and switching to the SP map would load the Liberty City map. When you fly out north east from LS over the ocean, you'd get a loading screen and it'd swap the maps. I still had some issues with this approach, as I couldn't fully swap everything without some workarounds, so if Rockstar takes this approach, they'll likely fix these issues and it'll help my mod too.

-Vehicle paths need a way to be swapped. I just block cars from spawning and our attempts to swap paths caused crashes.

-Both cities stay loaded in memory so there are issues where objects may not spawn at times. In reality LS and LC are next to each other. It got super nasty when I put LC at the same cords.
-They'll need a way to prevent network synchronization between players in LS and CP to not conflict. It'll get more complex when you are not dealing with an apartment/business.
-Swapping navs caused crashes. Fortunately I was able to block the troublesome nav meshes via script as they technically weren't used anyways.

Evidence that they're going to swap the maps:
-They added two natives to load and unload content sets, aka maps. They're not hardcoded like the natives which switch between the Single Player LS and the Online LS. These new natives were added in the Arena War update, and they take in a hash, implying that you can use a custom content set name, rather than the two for the SP and MP versions of LS.


2. Rockstar will not have any loading screens, and they will spawn the island far out in the ocean. They would have to make some significant technical changes to the game in order to do this, but I think it can be done.
-The vehicle path bounds need to be extended. Additionally, they will need a new set of files for all of the vehicle paths in the GTA V map because of the way the files are set in a hard coded grid of a fixed size.
-The water boundaries will need to be extended.
-The player synchronization boundaries need to be extended. Plus the game locks up if you move too far away from the GTA V map with no boundaries installed in a GTA Online session.
-The game has some graphical bugs when you move too far away from the map. (However you need to get pretty far).
-Radar tile bounds will need to be extended.
-Nav mesh bounds will need to be extended.

Evidence that they may be putting the map far away:
-We had a mod which extended the 2d radar for Liberty City as the map hung outside the base game's boundary. It was pretty easy to make this change. However we were still limited on the 3D radar. In the Casino Heist DLC, this modification made the 3d radar start to get glitchy and it would not load properly. This tells me Rockstar was making code changes to the way the radar works which became apparent once you started modifying the bounds.

I'm guessing you can buy a ticket at LSIA & spawn at that airfield? Then you can call Pegasus normally to get your boats/planes?

To get to the Luxington from the port flying takes 30 secs max. The ship is also on the last extrememe edge of the map so no I doubt there will any flying or boating to get there personally

I think it will be like when you approach the aircraft carrier - Oppressors, Jets, and other noob vehicles won't just be able to go there and start terrorizing everything. I think the island will be a ways away from Los Santos to ease the amount to Landscape being rendered at once...

Not sure. In my mod, it's ether by flying out a certain distance, or via a marker at LSIA in order to get to LC. Rockstar may do something similar. If it has a loading screen, I hope it isn't only one of those, but both.

What ever they end up doing, I'm going to utilize what ever technical features they add to the game for Cayo Perico, and I'll make it work similar.

I do wonder though, if we can go there via LSIA, I wonder if Rockstar is going to create an interior for LSIA. This could be one of the new social spaces they talked about, and it would essentially set up the groundwork for other map expansions.
