I don't think I really agree with the "CP2077 and GTA Online are very different games" argument that's often brought up in that I, as most people here, have limited time to play games. I don't really ask myself "which open world third person shooter do I want to play today" as much as "which game I like do I want to play today", and both of them could fit in that category. And in a way it did work, because when before I may have had any wish to get Cyberpunk near the release date and I'm now considering the fact that I could spend my free time playing new GTA content that's 100% free, so Cyberpunk will have to wait.

I can't believe I have to say this again, I am not talking about a freaking adversary mode, I'm talking about an entire update following that theme.

I know R* have made some really stupid and greedy decisions but locking it to just the heist would probably be one of the stupidest things they have ever done. 

 

I know you mean an entire theme but just look at arena wars. The main thing would be the gamemode which like arena wars would be basically an adversary mode and there would probably just be some new clothes, cars etc and owning cop cars and the cop outfit. If the gamemode was interesting it could keep people playing longer than arena wars did but still no where close to what a new location and new heist will.

There is no way they are locking the island only for the heist, did you play Fallout 4? They added two big DLC's with new stories and maps, Nuka World and Far Harbor, and Far Harbor is too big, really very big, and it's not locked only for the misions, you can play it in free mode (obviously with a loading screen) but ffs, with a loading screen old consoles can handle the free roam island, not as good as PC or coming new editions but they are able to do it, maybe with a player limit with less than a normal lobby but they can handle it ffs they aren't a f*cking Commodore 64

I don't think Fallout 4 is a very good comparison in that Nuka World and Far Harbor are filled with side quests, random encounters and NPCs you can talk to. Since Heists adopt a far more linear form of storytelling, using the island for the "Heist quest" only isn't exactly out of question.

Arena Wars could be a very good analogy in terms of what to expect from the new update. 
 

The new island could well be about the same size of the Arena War game space. The waiting / hangout area in AW could be the new sub. Sorry to be down about this, but if they have a tried and tested (and lucrative) model then why would they change it?

I guess this is just the cycle, people start a project with sparkly eyes and full of ideas to create awesome stuff and then down the line they suddenly don't feel the same passion for it anymore so they start getting lazier and lose interest. Kinda sad when I think about all the stuff they could do with Midnight Club or a new Bully nowadays but another V it is...

I hope RDRO is what screws the pooch. I had a feeling GTA:O was the last of online gaming for me with R*, and RDRO has pretty much confirmed all those worst fears I had.

 

I made allowances for GTA:O because it kind of just took off and no one expected it to be here now, and so long as I can access new content in invite only, I'm good until the game stops that or dies out.

 

I've been very harsh on RDRO and in that section, but I'm fed up at how people are accepting and defending that sh*t. The game is more broken than GTA, has far less freedom, sod all content and copying GTA's crappy businesses pap, and they outright lied about listening to players. I tried to get into it, but it's just so tacky.

 

I fear story modes in future will be so compromised too with T2 saying they want a faster turnover of releases and how long RDR2 took to create. Plus the financial success of these online modes with much less production costs. Plus now with RDRO being sold broken as standalone, R* are only going to learn they not only don't need much content to sell, but not even a fixed/fully working game!

 

That, or the game fails and it pushes R* into doing much better of course, but I'm not convinced it will. Sorry folks!
