Jeansowaty
Title says it all. It feels so weird for them to have the same voice. Couldn't they have hired someone else to voice Nastas?
billiejoearmstrong8
It was probably just easy/convenient. It was a small role and they found an actor they'd already hired could do a voice they were happy with for it and went with it I guess. I never noticed they were the same until I read that they were. Now it's all I can think of when I hear Nastas talk lol. I get that it can be practical to use the same actor for more than one voice sometimes, and I can see why they'd use that actor for Nastas since he has that powerful deep voice, but I think they should've scrapped the idea when it became clear it was too similar to the Dutch voice and hired someone else. Of course the ideal would've been to hire a Native American actor (which they did for the Native American characters in RDR2). But it's just a convenience thing. kubon352
I didn't notice that 8 years ago, when I played RDR for the first time, but after spending hundreds hours on RDR2 and replaying RDR once again a month ago... I was just like WTF? Jeansowaty
Shadowfennekin
It's forgivable given it wasn't a big title at the time, and it was more of a minor character(He was only in three missions). The game was a real mess to get out from what I remember it being told, they probably had to cut some corners and double dip Ivan1997GTA and billiejoearmstrong8
kubon352
This made me think why the hell they even decided to create a second game. Jeansowaty
Gtaman_92
I didn't know he voiced the same two characters. I always figured they had an actual Native American voice actor for Nasta. We would've gotten a Bully 2 also but someone from Take Two just had to intervene Jeansowaty

Dutch's voice is well done and Nastas' voice is well done, but they're just not different enough. I guess he has a very distinctive voice even when he's changing it a bit for a character. Platypus92
Because why not? Why spend more money on a second actor when one actor can do two voices? They do it all the time in cartoons and anime.
kubon352
Similar situation happened with GTA V and TBOGT. Both Troy and Steve Haines were voiced by the same actor.

Another example is Woozie in GTA SA and the undercover cop Charlie in GTA IV. Or Oscar Guzman in GTA V and Javier Escuella in RDR2. This is a bit different though since it's two characters in the same game. In that case it really only works if the actor can make the two voices different enough that they're not recognisable as being the same actor (which isn't the case with Dutch and Nastas , even though both performances are good). An example of where that was pulled off better is in GTA IV, where the same actor voiced Mikhail Faustin and "The Fixer" who gave Niko assassination missions over the phone. RJX74
He wasn't the only one, Rob Weithoff also voiced one of the native characters too (the one who killed Nastas) . Jeansowaty
Jimbatron
Never noticed this! Benjamin Byron Davies only had a relatively small part as Dutch in RDR and in my opinion he’s a top draw actor (based on RDR 2 where he is frankly epic). Perhaps they felt if he could do another voice sufficiently different that you couldn’t tell (without the credits), maybe it was an opportunity to keep him on payroll for a bit longer. billiejoearmstrong8

Alexlecj
It makes me laugh that he voices two characters from the same chapter. billiejoearmstrong8, tonko, Jeansowaty and 1 other
BAGS00
I think Benjamin said that his voice was just a place holder while they found someone else to voice Nastas but Rockstar actually liked the Benjamin as Nastas so they decided to keep it that way.
