Anyone playing on next gen consoles yet?

Everything executor said is true and I can confirm it all. While RDO does not have any enhancements from R* themselves it benefits from the raw power of the new consoles and from the tech that Microsoft has put into the console. I forgot to mention the reduced latency makes the controls feel tighter as well. Your character and horses moves and responds to the slightest stick movement making movement more precise.

I think Ubisoft games are also getting free patches/updates. For example 'For Honour' X1 edition works on XSX, but adds improvements via a patch to make use of the new hardware etc.

Since Ubisoft is on board with 'next gen' via free patches and updates it is a little perplexing to see R* quiet on this front.

It will be interesting to see what people's thoughts are.

 

So far all I've seen reported is faster load times and maybe slightly improved graphics. Should be more frames I expect, but how much will that impact the overall experience?

 

I was quite shocked to see how badly Sony fumbled the preorder debacle. They're far too large and influential for that kind of performance. It's a preorder, can't blame the pandemic for that.

I was considering buying the PS5, but am not thrilled with what I've seen in terms of current restrictions on built-in web browser use... the devil shows up in the details.

 

I'll happily keep my PS4 until I see what direction Sony takes with the PS5.

I see 'I'm going to wait and see' quite a bit from many PS players. I don't usually like to jump right into something either.

It's smart to see what the downsides may be first, and probably wait for a sale as well.

It may be a better option for many to not bother with the newer console depending on what limitations may be introduced, as you say.

One downside for me on the PS5 is that I don't see a way to access the Communities feature--and I use the Communities to find, let's say, like-minded players, to play the game comfortably and safely. I'm not sure if it's something PSN did intentionally or just that I'm missing something as I learn what the PS5 does.

Mark and I played on PS5 tonight. Load times are improved. It takes about half the time to load into the game (around 1 min 20 seconds). Graphics are a bit smoother. Fast travel is a bit faster. The map comes up quicker. Mark has an HDR TV and everything looks a lot more real. When they give us a proper PS5 (4k) update then it should be a bigger leap.

Got a new TV on Friday and the game is now just wow. It looked great before but with HDR it looks absolutely stunning. After playing for the whole weekend on the PS5 the game was more stable generally. Quite an improvement over the previous console. So if you can get hold of a new playstation or xbox then you will not be disappointed.

Ah, nice. I still have just a regular big screen LCD screen (1080/whatever.)

Was waiting until 4k TV's were cheap, but I'll get the Xbox Series X first.

 

Oddly, on my regular Xbox One, I've noticed menus slow WAY DOWN lately

(such as first getting into it, to see the dailies, by pressing the disc button to the left.)

So that would be a welcome change, when I upgrade.

 

Have you noticed menus not stalling, ("processing") when trying to sell lots of singles

to the butcher/Madam Nazar? Or is that a server side thing? It is one of my biggest

irritations with the game, something they need to either fix or add an option like

"SELL HALF" of the stack (as opposed to just being sell One or ALL.)

No, there's no change there. I think they added that pause to stop you selling things to quickly. It seemed to appear soon after people started doing the cougar selling glitch. Se we all get affected by this just being a few people wanted to get free money. Stupid that legit players should have to suffer.

Yeah, this game was blatantly made for this next gen of consoles and R* just dragged it out, lol. In every way better, from looks to loading and stability.

 

The game is still so far from what it should be, and their handling of it on the previous gen was piss poor at best, but at least the game is working much better. Only took 2 years and at this pace, the game should come into its own by about 2025, but still. 

 

They'll have to dump the previous gen asap to grow properly and I can see that happen by summer/autumn next year when GTA:O re-releases easily.

My son bought his PS5 round yesterday and compared to my PS4 Pro that has SSD fitted the load times are pretty much same graphics not a lot different if any either As for noise and heat.. well my Pro has always been quiet so no difference there 

 

But as stated by others above we are comparing with a PS4 game so the PS5 isnt working very hard

 

I will leave it a few months before looking at getting one unless any new PS5 game grab my attention

Thanks for this.  It's pretty much what I expected.  The first time my niece saw the game on my 75" 4k tv on a PS Pro vs her 36" tv on a ps slim, she was blown away.  I don't think there is anything available for the PS5 that I am currently interested in, so I think  I'll hold out till spring/summer maybe.

Definitely a difference between loading time on the PS5 and my PS4 Pro. Those black and white/sepia screens after I press the "go to free roam" are telling--my Pro slowly counts up as it loads (e.g., 20%...40%...60%, etc.). My PS5 takes less time and, if it shows a number at all, it's only the 90%. Definitely a change in the loading speed though it does still take a little time.

 

The vibrations when you use the geiger counter are more subtle, too (I'm glad I use the jeanropke map). I'm getting used to them but  I prefer the PS4 Pro controller's stronger vibration.

 

And I'm still learning some things about the PS5 (after I think I somehow wiped some of my Battlefield 1 progress [I prefer it to Battlefield 4 and V]) because I still haven't figured out how to access the Communities on PSN while using the PS5. I use them a lot for RDO assistance. 

 

Oh and I'm running a big Samsung and, at the moment, RDO, HDR and I are not getting along well. I actually turned HDR off for now until I figure out what's going on (it looks washed out).

RDR2 has two HDR modes. The HDR that came with the game is sh*te, so sh*te that R* had to make an entirely new HDR mode. I think it's called HDR Game Mode? That's the one you want.

I am glad that people are getting to enjoy RDR as it should have been, as @Lonely-Martin said RDR2 was made for the next generation.

 

Also, another thing. The new Xbox, the X at least, does 16x Anisotropic Filtering for BC games. Thats why it looks so f*cking sharp and crisp for me. I dont know if the PS5 does this.

I'm yet to fully explore the settings properly, just haven't had the time of late and when I do get a spare hour, I'm too quick to pop a game on and play, lol. But I'm sure I'll learn more as I go.

I think it's a base level thing for Xbox, it just works.

 

I said the other day, I don't play RDO much now as I am redownloading and trying all my games at 60fps.

Similar thing here, lol. Been trying my games out I already have and on PS store we got a bunch of free games as part of the plus sub so been trying new stuff out I'd not played yet like Days Gone and old classics like Crash Bandicoot trilogy as I want to open my self up to new stuff as this game has failed to fully grab me like I'd hoped.

 

Hopefully now the new consoles are here we start seeing some better additions as I'm bored of the businesses model from GTA.

 

I'm rich enough in RDRO for what comes next so awaiting that. Tonight it'll be GT Sport.

Yea, Game Pass on Xbox just got loads of EA games added so I have more than enough games to play.

Same, I have enough to last me the next three major DLC at least. Same with GTAO, no content means no desire to play.

 

I have Titanfall 2 downloading at the moment, gonna play Story Mode in 60fps.

I can actually hear the game through my TV for a start, my PS5 is completely silent when playing RDO (it would make my PS4 very loud). The loading times are faster, but the graphics and performance are identical in my opinion. There's no haptic feedback either sadly, just basic rumble/vibration on the controller which feels primitive now compared to PS5 games. You can literally feel different surfaces in your hands on the DualSense, nobody should dismiss it as a gimmick because it really isn't. I really hope we get a next-gen patch like many other game developers have already provided for free.
