sivispacem
Wait, why would T2 buying Codemasters be a bad thing? Bob Loblaw_
Wow, I can't wait to Grid and Dirt to go from fun, simple racing games to ever evolving, filled to the brim with micro-transactions multiplayer racing games. Tez2
It has been confirmed. https://ir.take2games.com/news-releases/news-release-details/take-two-interactive-software-inc-confirms-offer-possibly Quote NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 2020-- Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO) today confirmed an announcement made by the Board of Codemasters that the Company has made a proposal to acquire the entire issued share capital of UK-based game publisher and developer, Codemasters, at a price of 485 pence (*approximately $6.40) per share (the "Possible Offer"), comprising 120 pence (*approximately $1.58) per share in cash and 365 pence (*approximately $4.82) per share payable in Take-Two stock. The Possible Offer remains conditional on, among other things, the completion of confirmatory due diligence and the recommendation of the Board of Codemasters. Take-Two reserves the right to waive any of these requirements. Edited November 6, 2020 by Tez2 EGA_6, DeltaV20 and Zello
Jason
That's a lot of money for a studio that doesn't have any huge hitters and seem to have a more niche audience, albeit the F1 games are great racing games these days. Their last new IP if I recall was Onrush, which tanked hard. Be interesting I suppose to see where they go under Take-Two from a design perspective, and the fearmongering over monetisation has already begun but I'll wait and see on that one. Interesting that this is the second studio they've linked up with that currently owns a major sporting license - The Golf Club w/ the PGA lisence and now F1. Take-Two wanting a fully fledged sports label perhaps? Ivan1997GTA and Zello
RARusk
Probably. Maybe to do what EA has been doing for years with their sports franchises - microtransactions, loot boxes, unskippable ads, etc. "One day I will think of this as just another job. After all, this is what I do."

JiaHengK
Interesting decision from T2. Not really sure if this bodes well for the F1 franchise, but I hope that the games don't get littered with microtransactions.
Zello
Don't know why people are saying this isn't good. Smaller companies with niche games that don't sell well are already struggling and need help or else they'll go bankrupt and with COVID it's getting a lot worse. I think this is a move to keep them afloat and not have to lay off people. DeltaV20

Take 2 just wanted to add F1 to their list. and Strauss said F1 will fit into the list of their sports games. Guest
it's over Quote Update 11/10/2020: Take-Two has announced that it's reached an agreement to acquire Codemasters in a cash-and-shares deal, valuing the UK developer/publisher at $994 million (£759 million). The acquisition is expected to complete in Q1 2021. In a statement, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explained why the acquisition fit: “Codemasters has a renowned history of creating some of our industry's most beloved and commercially successful racing franchises, and we believe that their offerings will be highly complementary to our sports portfolio and enhance further our organization's long-term growth." Codemasters includes not just the development studio, but its publishing arm. Codemasters itself acquired Project Cars developer Slightly Mad last year. of course two biggest T2 shills @Len Lfc & @gonnaenodaethat will say it's a good thing Edited November 11, 2020 by Guest

Next you have to look at a company like Codemasters which again I have said has games that aren't selling well. You gotta look at Zenimax/Bethesda and one of the reasons why Microsoft bought them was you guessed it a lot of their games weren't selling well they were struggling Fallout 76 was a flop, and a lot of their other recent titles too. Codemasters releases are mainly Dirt and F1 and those only sell like what 100-200k units a year? That's not a lot and games are costing a lot more money to make and develop. Not to mention they had a Flop Codemasters released Grid and that flopped badly so it's not looking good for them. This acquisition made sense. I'm not looking at it as a T2 shill I'm looking at it from a business perspective. But sure call me what you want.
