WrathEddy11 0
Game is using 98% of my 8 gb ram and the disk usage in task bar is 100% whereas gpu is only being used 10% and the game is lagging a lot.what should i do
seldo 84
first, if you are short on memory, I'd add memory. But it all depends on the rest of your system. Only a memory upgrade might not be worth it.
RuskiChleb 226
10% of gpu? what kind of rig r u playin on my dude?
Dryspace 836
The GPU probably has very low utilization because it's being delivered a very low framerate by the CPU. I don't know exactly how streaming is implemented (I don't have the game yet), but if disk utilization is at 100%, that is certainly the reason for the low framerate--the game is apparently not able to load required data fast enough. One guess I'm going to throw out is that you are attempting to run the game on a laptop or other mobile device?

Dryspace 836
By the way, I apologize for asking, but have you tried to run another demanding game, and verified that it runs without any of the same issues?

It uses roughly 8GB on my PC, but like most now a days, I have 16GB RAM. The one thing you can usually always upgrade on a laptop is the RAM though. MarshallRawR 1,761
I had the same issue. RAM is your problem and increasing how much you have is the only solution. When I found old RAM at my place and put it in (going from 8GB to an awkward 12GB) it still fixed my issues (for RDR2 and a couple bigger games like The Division 2).
gtafaninwest 482
I been having the same problem lately. It use to run smooth but it's been lagging frequently lately. Maybe it's because of those annoying updates. Game runs smooth one minute, then lagging the next.

I'm just throwing this out there.....Has anyone tried monitoring your network connection to see if framerate drops happen at the same time that network activity rises? Since this effectively an Always Online game, I wouldn't be suprised if Rockstar had some questionable Web traffic happening while playing.
The007connoisseur 40
I’m having this problem ever since 1.24 came out, I have had this game day one with the same specs, And it was running brilliantly until this sh*tty update. I can barely stay in game for more than 3 minutes, people ride on invisible horses, textures get extremely blurry like they haven’t loaded yet, framerate drops. Lighting goes away like there’s no sun. And freezes entirely when I hit esc. So bad I have to restart the pc. My specs are GTX 960 4GB, i5 2400, 8 GB DDR3 I haven’t had any problems before and I have 1100 hours of gameplay with the same specs, but it’s making me mad rn. disk goes to 100, a lot of memory usage... Setzaroth 553
Game eats CPU power like an ageing celebrity eats attention. Also, you're going to wanna be about 16GB minimum for modern PC gaming. 8 is REALLY pushing it these days. Edited December 26, 2020 by Setzaroth
Tantrix 51
Another thing go into the game settings>keyboard & mouse and set your mouse from RAW input to Direct input, this has been known to smooth the game out a little. But yes with 8GB of memory you need to close every single app you can before playing so the majority goes to RDR. I was running 16GB before release and upped mine to 32GB just to be on the safe side. So many of these threads on "Why can't I run it" We all know the answer, quit glossing over it. Your system is the answer. Not the game, not the updates, not the internet.
