I never mentioned having a problem with driving around the map. Only that it would just be annoying having to go to a payphone every damn time there was new content. There's nothing more core to the GTA experience than, go to point A, meet guy X and kill guy Z. I understand each entry adds more arcane detail, slicker mechanics, tools and a more responsive world to enhance that. The idea of fixers and pagers never occured to me, how they would be implemented is what I'm interested in seeing. How far are they gonna pursue immersion and balance it out so certain activities don't get monotone. It would be boring if I'm getting a pager about a new set of vehicles at a showroom, having to go check them and then not being interested in them. Specially after they're gonna support 6's online for like..10 years post launch. V's online is almost approaching that same amount of time with E&E still coming out in the other half of this year.

I don't know, one of the ideas I have is that they could create short radio adverts for new content.

However, you are talking about Grand Theft Auto: Online. In that universe anything could happen, even smartphones with a wireless internet connection in 1980's.

I'm really interested in seeing how they're going to tackle mission givers and all the in-game phone functionalities if its in a 80's setting. Having to drive around the city for getting a job from a payphone is going to be really annoying. GTA Online heavily relies on your phone and whatever its next evolution is im not going to miss being bombarded with job invites in sessions lol. V's UI is very dated.

Made a HUD concept just for that problem. Instead of phone system you could have duffel bag system which basically has all the functionality of the phone.

Phone/Catalogue/Camera/Pager ETC

I'd imagine at least on online they'll streamline things to make it more appealing to wider audience. Immersive stuff can stay in single player.

You mean...   bringing up to online stuff that didn't exist in the 1980's so the game doesn't get "boring"?

Yeah, just like flying bikes doesn't exist in 2020 but does that even matter to GTAO.

To be fair they haven't released any truly broken sci-fi stuff after Oppressor MK2 came out with After hours. So maybe they're actually doing things differently.

Waiting for this Godforsaken game has made me more curious about finding out which leaks were right and which ones were wrong, rather than the story or setting or whatever lol.

What the h*ll...? So now it's a problem having to move and go to missions or mission triggers (which helps improve immersion, gives more freedom to role-play and adds hours of play) instead of 150 messages being sent to you do them
If you spend so much energy moving a joystick and pressing a trigger while playing, I recommend that you watch a movie, if it's not a lot of effort to put a CD in the disk drive

A fast travel system from payphone to other payphones would be very convinient.

To be honest I don't mind driving around the city for that. In fact, it encourages exploration, it makes you see other areas, encounter stranger events and so on. And I enjoy listening to the radio too, especially in older GTAs like VC. That doesn't mean that driving from point A to point B doesn't have to be reduced at all, but if it's done in moderation, I don't see anything wrong with that. And frankly it never felt annoying for me.

The point is, if it's too convenient to start missions/quests, the game might as well be linear and not open world. What would be the point?

Dude, Taxis were available in 80s and it's already a great fast travel system in GTA which is very coherent with the world.

No, Wait what? I thought there were no taxis in the 80s, I thought that, the 80s were stone age, wait, it isn't? It's all a pack of lies?! No way 80s will have modern day features!

lol, getting jobs from payphones is awesome. Cellphones are annoying to answer irl let alone a vidya game. Taking a call from an enigmatic character on the other side of a payphone is pretty kewl

Still can't imagine why people think 80s is like 1880s lmao.

It doesn't restrict anything in a major way that it would affect the game's story, at all. Almost everything has an alternative in the 80s. Hell, RDR2 is set in 1899s and still has more features than GTA V, except the phone and internet but why do we need them? I'm buying the game to play it and enjoy story not surf the internet which I can do irl.

clearly you guys don't know the 80s... it was clearly the era where they would send you missions using pigeons

Seeing your Majima avatar from Yakuza 0 reminded me about that games amazing depiction of the 1980s.

People if you haven't done so go and Play it now. It's amazing.

Tbh the Yakuza franchise showed me that i wish a lot more games would go above and beyond with their side content. Like GTA does have a lot of variety but i feel like i wouldn't mind them taking notes on the Yakuza franchise on how to do minigames and stuff
