But if it is, it's strange that they'd do new animations for parachuting, I don't expect that many new animations/game mechanics for GTA V e&e because it uses RDR2's version of RAGE, I just expect it to have better graphics. But it's not out of the realm that it could be some kinda new animations for GTA V e&e...

no it isn´t.

that line is even in the PC release version included.

and that was 2019.

i really doubt it has something to do with E&E.

my guess is relative simple.

parachuting is something that is implemented into the core base engine itself.

which is why there is a setting in the gameconfig to enable parachuting, but is set to false.

similiar to the crouching in V.

a lot of stuff is part of the base RAGE engine.

and RAGE was originally made for GTA.

so a lot of base code is to make a GTA game.

which is also why the RDR2 vehicle.meta still has that entry for the vehicle manufacturers from V and such or a lot of other stuff.

even some internal stuff has GTA in the name etc.

so that is the reason why that skydiving line slipped into RDR2.

it´s RAGE base code and they probs improved it for GTA 6 at that time, which means in got put into the base RAGE code, which RDR2 also uses.

 

maybe sounds a bit complicated, but it really isn´t.

Was it, though? Rockstar San Diego made RAGE. And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they develop it for their games? It was just first used for Table Tennis, then GTA IV.

I'm not an expert, so it could be a coincidence in keywords use.

And I never thought video game could be this complex, prop to the devs.

Yes.

RAGE was primarily made for GTA.

Table tennis was actually just a tech demo they released as a game iirc.

And like i said, even internal code has GTA in the name.

Like render stuff is iirc gtarenderthread for example.

Regarding Chicago, what I mean about major is in terms of their cultural and global appeal. I see you're also from the UK. I reckon if you asked the average Brit what were major US cities they'd say:

 

New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Franciso, Las Vegas, and Washington DC. Possibly then Boston, Philadelphia and San Diego. Out of all of those I'd say Chicago could hold its own in a game (as a single location, even though I don't want that..) as could NYC and LA. Chicago to me is the one major, MAJOR US city they haven't done. Regarding an other IP I see your point but I'd just find it sad if we have a never ending cycle of LC, LS and VC - y'know? VC needs its turn but then they shouldn't shy away from other major US locations. Chicago being the the big one missing.

 

Regarding Miami's size - point taken. Its less relevant now than it was in the past but Vice City has become a staple of GTA lore and canon and that's why it should remain. It has a cultural recognition and unlike other major cities mentioned is tropical and therefore provides a different feel  that other cities can't do (in before VC is too much like LS!).

 

Indeed I am from the UK and I know nothing about Chicago other than its Mafia roots in the 20's and a bit further. Yes you are absolutely right about the list, if I were to make a top 5 US cities I know a bit about, Chicago wouldn't be there. It certainly wouldn't be there if I thought of US cities I think could host good narratives for a GTA game. My only knowledge of it really these days is that it is used a lot by the film industry to replicate New York in films. I just don't see an appeal for it globally. I'd be open for them to do it for sure. I'm not against it at all, I just feel as though right now Miami is preferable - infinitely more rich for a game world because of it's drug history and geolocation at the bottom of USA. But yes, eventually they will need to expand out into other cities.

Ok, RDR2 had more towns... but those are towns, come on, Rhodes, Valentine, Armadillo, those are a 1 street town, you can't compare that to LC, VC, LS, which are huge metropolitan areas. 

That's my 2 cents on the matter.

 

Exactly. I think there are ample smaller places surrounding Miami, also tropical locations in south of Miami that could be utilised in a realistic way before we jump straight to having a city from mid America randomly next to Vice City. It just doesn't sit with me at all.

It's what the TV show crime story made by Michael Mann was about. The Chicago Mafia setting up operations in Las Vegas. Ray Luca's journey from Chicago to Las Vegas was based on Anthony Spilotro a real mobster in the Chicago Mafia. It wasn't as good as Miami Vice but the movie Casino took some inspiration from it as well.

 

San Francisco and Las Venturas actually make less sense for me imo. There's really nothing connecting them together like no shared crime history.

 

The geography connects them. I see what you are saying and it would work great in a linear game where the map is not open, where we could witness smaller segments of multiple cities in a linear way. But we are dealing with open world and Rockstar are trying to realistically portray American cities. I just don't think having Chicago next to Las Vegas on the map is plausible in any way at all, even if narratively it makes sense. If they go for a story similar to what you are saying, then they just use VC and Carribean locations because they are seperated by water geographically, so it benefits the narrative and the realism they try to achieve. Just makes more sense to me!
