What does that have to do with anything?

I want a 1980's game set in Vice City in the HD era.

That’s how Rockstar did their games. It was all standalone games however took place in same universe.

Agreed and Tommy was such an iconic character. There will always be comparisons. Look at Franklin, dude is basically seen as  a poor man's CJ

Exactly lol

RDR2 is meant to be a prequel game. GTA games are standalone stories. In all honesty I’m fine with an 80s GTA, but I’m just scared it’d feel like a rehash.

Is it too hard to ask for a prequel to to the HD era? If GTA games are standalone stories then why do a lot of IV characters appear in V and Online. (Johnny, Packie, UL Paper, Gay Tony, Brucie.)

Why did in the III era Claude, Catalina, Salvatore, and Rosenberg all show up in SA. Avery Carrington dying in LCS.

No. Something being popular doesn't mean it's great.

So in your argument FFVII which was one of the most popular games in it’s era wasn’t great? As in example obviously....

First of all that comparison is moot in that RDR 2 is of the same universe as the first one. It is a prequel. So a comparison to a new Vice City game doesn’t cut it at all.

In addition as I stated earlier the repetition of the 80s again in a HD Vice City won’t happen. Rockstar likes to do new eras and activities.

Justin Bieber's music is very popular. Doesn't mean it's great.

Eh... you're both right. They are standalone stories. They all just take place within the same universe*. There just happens to be crossovers to varying degrees. But each games story is completely standalone, and doesn't require any of the other games to be understood.

*= Within each games defined universe (3D & HD)

A Popular thing can be great but most of the times it isn't. How hard is it to understand. Avengers is popular but it's no Goodfellas.

I’m not sure why they threw all those characters in there but you know what I mean. GTA 5’s story is still a standalone experience even though Johnny, Packie, and UL Paper are present.

I'm not arguing about this again. A game made 20 years, 3 systems ago by a completely different team can not feel like a remake of a game made in 2021. Simple as that. Goodnight.

Definition of popular: “ liked, admired, or enjoyed by many people....” not hard to understand

Something something Avengers. Popular doesn't always mean it's great and great things aren't always popular.

Anyway, why is RDR allowed to have a prequel but GTA can't have a prequel set in the HD era? They've done it before with LCS being a prequel to III, and VCS being a prequel to VC. There are many interesting characters in the HD era that have interesting backstories that could be explored and provide great material for a game. The LCPD database in IV established a lot of characters criminal records and what they did in the past.

Sammy Botino was mentioned in GTA V in having run the entire east coast in the 80s and 90s. Is that not interesting?

Not only this but I'm literally playing Vice City right now, there is SO MUCH that can be done in a new 1980s Vice City game that hasn't been done in VC. If we believe that the Project Americas leak from 2018 is real then we'll be going between Vice City and South America. I imagine we'll be playing a colombian protagonist with a mid-level role in the drug war. There's no way GTAVI feels like VC from 2002 other than being in the same city and era.

Ok but Metal Gear Solid was very popular game which was great and ahead of its time. I feel this argument would go on forever.

I wish we would have gotten more Franklin Lamar missions, or sh*t Trevor Lamar missions. Very underrated character.

It’s because Vice City was of 3D era, after VC came San Andreas the 90s then IV the HD era.

1980s can still come to Vice city on HD bcz Tommy never existed on Vice city on HD era , Tommy is alive on 3D era Vice City, (adding barriers between Universes/Era's was a sharp move by R* tbh)

Lamar is one of the best side characters of the whole series, f*cking hilarious dude. I preferred him over Franklin

if there are multiple protagonists, hopefully only two

new SSD's would make switching between characters pretty instantaneous

No character in GTA V could compete to be the best character in the history of GTA, rather all of them compete on the contrary, which one is worse, let's see if there is luck and the houser brothers have taken drugs in Ibiza with some dj with an interesting life and we meet him in one of the 100 dlcs left for GTA V

To be honest, I'm tired of arguing about this. Vice City was and still is great but with all respect to people who made this game, compared to HD era games, it's more like stereotype of 80s. Meanwhile, starting from GTA IV, Rockstar puts a heavy focus on creating realistic world of times the game is set in.

Yeah VC is a great game but it's a game that requires 128 MB of RAM and less than a GB of space. The story is good but the map and gameplay is dull. I feel like trying to compare GTA:VC to GTAVI will be like comparing an HTML game by a student to Rockstar Games.

Well its almost 19 years old..obviously it has aged. But just better graphics don't make a game better, otherwise there wouldn't be so many who prefer GTA SA over GTA V
