Carbonox
Post stupid questions that you'd like to have answers for, but don't wish to clutter up the site with their own thread. You all know you got some. 1. Can anyone confirm if there was or was not a VC radio commercial that featured the 1-866-BURY-ME number? No, I'm not confusing it with Pastor Richards' SAVE-ME ad. I feel so thoroughly convinced that I heard it being mentioned like one time, but neither of the Farewell Ranch ads in the comprehensive video (CLICK!) seem to feature it. 2. Once upon a time, I was a gullible kid who thought you could get to Liberty City in San Andreas by flying a plane east of LV, sinking it, going through the ocean floor and respawning. Needless to say, I just ended up back in eastern LV, and that was that... but why is it that on some occasions, while down in the underwater blue hell, I would get a wanted star out of nowhere? 3. The search is killing me, so can anyone pinpoint to me the Highmen Group commercial from TLAD, from a video that contains it or something? I think it was on Liberty Rock Radio. This link fron gamefaqs which shows the script for all the commercials seems to suggest it is connected to the Farewell Ranch though it's shown in a seperate phone numbers section and not as part of the commercial script Quote ------------------------------------ Below are the phone numbers that appear in Vice City. They are toll free so you don't have to worry about the phone bill. Since all of them have letters which are a pain I will also put the numerical number in brackets. 1-866-9SAVEME [1-866-972-8363]-Pastor Richard's Salvation Fund 1-866-434SELF [1-866-434-7353]-Jeremy Robard's Think Your Way to Sucess 1-866-9BURYME [1-866-928-7963]-Farewell Ranch 1-800-BEAHERO [1-800-232-4376]-Army 1-866-PILLAGE [1-866-745-5243]-Thor 1-866-9SHADEE [1-866-974-2333]-D'Leo and Thurax So the number did exist but here it isn't shown in the commercials I think. String
lol, Carbonox I scoured YouTube for the Highmen group commercial and man I feel your pain. Whether it be going through entire radio stations or continually searching for EFLC exclusive commercials which seem to be notoriously hard to find compared to the mainline game commercials, to even going through the TV shows for the commercials there lol, seems like I've found every commercial except that one . Hopefully someone else has better luck with that Anyways a question for y'all. Assuming Johnny doesn't spare Brian in their first encounter what do you think Brian's neighbours made of Johnny occupying the house? Like, their neighbour was heard to have a died a violent death and the door is boarded up but there is still activity in the house and some large dude keeps getting spotted going to and fro the back door, idk if I was the neighbour it would seem pretty suspicious to me. Perhaps the neighbours reported Johnny to the authorities which forced him to flee to Los Santos which lead to his fate Edited October 25, 2020 by Utopianthumbs Tikal The Whimsicott and MrPikmin16 2 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/963322-stupid-gta-questions/#findComment-1071369096 Share on other sites

String
Speaking of neighbours, Niko and Luis live in the same block or atleast one of Niko's safehouses is there. You think they ever ran into each other after the Gracie and diamonds episode and if they recognized each other, how would you imagine they interact with each other if at all? A somewhat less hypothetical question - Does Luis run faster than Niko and Johnny run slower or is it the same speed, or? Funny thing is I imagine if they took the time to get to know each other they'd probably bond over their hatred towards Bulgarin and to a lesser extent Gracie lol. Think for Niko anyone that took out Bulgarin is automatically a friend of his. I even think they'd laugh off the bank and museum incidents after the fact Of course all this is just hypothetical, but I think Niko and Luis would gel well if they got to know each other as both are just trying to stay sane and survive in a mad city, unlike say Johnny who though is level headed and business like, I feel his outlaw shtick wouldn't gel as well with them, just imo Edited October 25, 2020 by Utopianthumbs Added a bit billiejoearmstrong8, GhettoJesus, Jeansowaty and 2 others 5 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/963322-stupid-gta-questions/#findComment-1071369366 Share on other sites

With San Andreas at least they sort of give a reason why Tenpenny didn't shoot Carl in the back, cause he didn't know if Sweet and Cesar were hiding around so he was to paraphrase CJ, feeling a lil exposed (though it's not such a strong argument yeah, but kind of a reason is given anyway) With Vice City, I liked Lance's betrayal but story wise it's kinda funny, like here's this maniac that's gunned down scores of criminals, I'm about to betray him what do I do? Not shoot him in the back when I can but dramatically walk to the others guys side and try to gun him down after making my betrayal plain and clear to Tommy, he couldve just shot him at the back of the head and saved a whole lot of trouble and his life, lol Yeah I agree overall the baddie speech is kinda cliche but kinda entertaining too. billiejoearmstrong8
I mean Vice City is heavily influenced by Scarface and is a parody of those type of cheesy 80s movies that aren't exactly hyper realistic. String
I think the real reason is so the story doesn't end abruptly but if you want an explanation strictly in terms of the story then this explanation by Rhoda is as good as any on this subject I think. On 3/12/2020 at 5:35 PM, Rhoda said: Pulaski never had it in him to kill, at least not without Tenpenny holding his reins. He was all mouth. If you think back to the course of the story, Pulaski was really good at being bullish, brutish and loud. Tenpenny was the colder, more calculated conductor. As soon as Pulaski was given a job to do without Tenpenny's supervision, it was curtains. He didn't intend on killing Hernandez. Watching the cutscene again, Pulaski accidentally fired when tackled, and the stray shot happened to kill Hernandez. It was at this point I assume things got "too real" for Pulaski and thought he could just run away, even away from Tenpenny. By the time Tenpenny realised CJ was in fact still alive, Pulaski would be long gone. I think the real reason is just for convenience, they included as much Serbian as they could get away with and still have the scene be followable/make sense without subtitles on. But I guess it could be reasoned that Niko had become very accustomed to speaking English, including with Roman who is apparently more comfortable speaking English than Serbian now, and they'd just been having a conversation in English the whole way there. So it could be that he only switched to Serbian for Darko's benefit and/or because he was feeling particularly emotional at first. But once he became more composed, and also realised Darko can understand English, he happens to continue in English since it's just a natural thing for him to speak in either language now. I'm quite glad it switched to English for another reason - Michael Hollick's Serbian wasn't the greatest so if they'd done the whole thing in Serbian the overall delivery wouldn't have been as good. They included enough of him speaking in his native language that it still made an impact, but then switching to English for the majority of the dialogue meant his acting could be totally 100% without pronuncation struggles or not fully feeling the meaning as he said the words. E Revere
Why didn't Rockstar get some real Serbian actors to do some foreign language lines for the few Serbian characters that exist in GTA IV instead of forcing English-speaking actors to do them with little phonetic accuracy? Would it have been too much to contact some studio in Serbia for at least the cutscene where Niko confronts Darko? That whole scene would've been so much more powerful if it went through almost entirely in Serbian. Darko has moved around Europe a little bit so he may know have some knowledge of English but to hear him speak it with perfect grammar, good vocabulary and even make use of metaphors just breaks the immersion a little. If getting Serbian voice actors is a bit too far, then they could have at least make him speak English like sh*t, you know, as an actual Eastern European would. Also I should to clarify that I'm not trying to nitpick on this scene. I don't think linguistic differences would've changed its effect on the game drastically, it was just one example of a general but small issue. Having a new actor just for the cutscene would be dumber, negotiating a Serbian studio (finding one in the first place), flying actors to the place of the recording, cast them, fly them back, pay them (and be lucky enough to find someone who is willing to do the act for the whole game) is just a lot of effort. Albeit I agree, I can't understand why Niko, Roman, Florian and Darko don't speak Serbian to their compatriots. This practice is very common in the media though. In lots of movies (and games) you can count on the people speaking a non-major foreign language with a horrible accent.
