I'd like to think a 2020-ish miami, No colors, It'll give a gritty feeling of the broken rainbow era, Just like GTA IV and the Broken American-Dream

I just want a pet alligator on my boat.

And... the option to use that boat as a save point.

1989 was pretty gritty. I remember the last season of Miami Vice it definitely had a darker tone to it in terms of the final episodes of the series. Season 5 gets a lot of hate but there were some really good episodes that held up.

I've always liked the Sonny Burnett arc at the beginning of the season though how it ended was disappointing.

Picture driving down Vice City at night in 1989 and this is part of the original score.

Yesss! I’m already imagining it. 😎

I bet Rockstar could get some people to make a badass original score with an 80’s vibe to it as well. It would be incredible. Setting the tone for drug deals amongst other things.

@Zello Remember this episode? The ending was sad af. Kid had college scouts coming to check out his football game but had to make one more deal with the cops with ultimately lead to this...

Great tune in the vid too by Simply Red. I believe Rockstar used a Simply Red track for GTA V on that Non-Stop POP station.

Everything's better than "Hell Hath No Fury" and "the OCB investigates ayy lmaos".

On-topic: 1988 seems like a good year for a new game... While there was some late 80s stuff bleeding into VC/VCS, they were mainly inspired by mid- to early 80s (Scarface/Mariel boatlift - drama) culture.

I'd like to see another approach like IVs with its Yugoslavia conflict - backdrop: Crack, AIDS/discrimination, or criminals using minors (as referenced by @TheOriginalGunslinger ), are really more engaging topics than "the power of friendship" (or whatever V was about).

1980. A definite start to the 80s and some of its more iconic features (80s rock, cold war, drugs, etc etc etc), but before the bright neon lights came down in full force.

If anyone wants to get that 80’s fix I recommend this... Cocaine Cowboys. Definitely worth a watch if you want to watch the whole documentary somewhere.

Regarding the music, a lot of the time when people talk about the 80's having cool music they're really talking about late 70's/early 80's (it's just easier to go by decade). That's when all the coolest new wave and punk stuff was, the late 80's brought the cheese. For example Blondie are known as a definitive "80's" band but all their most loved stuff was recorded in the 70's. Plenty of good stuff in other genres early in the decade too. So music wise the early 80's would work fine.

I like the idea of 89 or 90 with the cocaine craze starting to dwindle and new drugs coming in. The cocaine barons trying to keep their empires from crumbling while the new boys take over their turf.

So what I'm hearing is that alot of you want the same theme as RDR2? RDR 2 was in 1899, when the age of outlaws and gunslinging was ending and modern age was coming. And 1989-1990 being the time when the age of Drug lords and smugglers was nearing its end as the DEA were tracking them down, hence drug trafficking nearing its end.

i think it would span the entire decade or maybe even multiple (via flashbacks), they demonstrated an evolving open world in rdr2 and they notoriously reuse their most impressive "tech" or gimmicks in GTA.

(evidenced by GTA V being a culmination of all the 360 era games before it, max payne style gun play and animation, rdr style open world events and LA Noire face tech etc)

They can make a depressing 80s VC. It'd be a unique contrast.

Not really an end since drug lords and smuggling is still around. Just a transition period instead from the Colombian cartels to the Mexicans.

Hopefully the game is an amalgamation of everything that was listed in here, Miami Vice, Cocaine Cowboys, Scarface, crack and aids epidemic etc in the years of 87-89

So basically GTA Vice City.

Not really. Vice City was set in 1986 , didn't touch on the AIDS epidemic, and Tommy never really sold drugs or touched any coke aside from the opening mission.

You really hate the idea of a game in the past. Looking for any and anything to justify the same boring modern day themes again.

Yeah, I do. I don't get why many of you want to see something that has already been done (80's Miami, empire building story, Scarface/Miami Vice references, ''Babylon Club'' songs) just for the sake of nostalgia. Honestly, nostalgia blindness is the worst thing about the GTA fanbase.

And the fact that GTA inherited masses of kids who love stupid cartoony space sh*t instead of a good story and quality content.. Now we have a bunch of rocket bikes and flying cars, aliens, arena war garbage.. amazes me how sh*tty content seems to amuse people. I prefer a hardcore realistic and gritty story in current or at least near current time period, I hope they'll bring back the serious vibe that 4 had to VI.

As long as those things don't touch singleplayer, I'm good. Singleplayer should be more serious and down to earth while Online should stay goofy imo.
