We don't know what it is but most likely Hot Pursuit. I loved the 2010 reboot. It would mark 10 years. It was a solid NFS. Nice and polished with really fun multiplayer.Β

Of all the NFS they could remaster...

what a waste. This proves yet again that EA has no idea what their fans want from the franchise.

It's the highest rated Need For Speed on Metacritic. I expect they want the best possible chance to sell it.Β

Β

An Underground 2 remake would be nice. But I really enjoyed HP (2010). It's a fun game. It's simple does what it does really well. No fluff.Β

Standard Deluxe 59

This was the last need for speed game I enjoyed playing. I doubt I'll buy the remaster though since my ps3 still works.Β

I love HP2010, even if is the most Burnout-y title in the NFS franchise (alongside MW2012, which isn't a bad thing at all), but this is just strange. Okay, Stellar Entertainment (the same studio that did Burnout Paradise Remastered) is back - cool. But I would rather have EA/Criterion/what's-left-of-Ghost-Games give us some more content for NFS Heat. I've just played it for the first time recently, and it reminds me of the classic NFS games from the early-mid 2000s more than any other NFS title since Black Box went under. Aside from its rather questionable gameplay mechanics and design choices, it's actually a decent game - not far off from UG2/MW/Carbon at all (good car list too). Had it got post release content/updates like literally any other racing title on the market right now, it would probably have a shot at the title of the best NFS game since Black Box shut down (maybe of the 21st century). Heat+ is good, but I would have loved to see something majorΒ from Criterion/Ghost/EA themselves.

Β

I'm sorry for going off on such an tangent, but that's just something I have to get off my chest. I really love HP2010, but I'm not really convinced it needed the remaster treatment. Maybe my mind will be changed when I play it, I don't know. Having said that, I did quite like the reveal trailer despite it lacking gameplay moments (and maybe some comparisons with the original, too).

I think it's a great opportunity to refresh EA's library a bit, and I've been eagerly wishing for them to bring back some of their old NFS titles.

Or simply add few Police cruisers into Heat, which players can use to mess with others. Simple as that, here you go Hot Pursuit 2020. But EA needs to take a hard way of easy money.

Anyone think the snippets of gameplay in the reveal look unimpressive? I mean, it's OK. Would have to see some more. And the whole live action thing is corny. EA are obsessed with making cringey live-action stuff.Β

Β

I know it's been 10 years but I remember the graphics for HP 2010 looking nice. And it could be the shock of not seeing the game for a while but it doesn't look much improved to me.Β

Β

I wonder if these remasters from EA are cashing in to fund something nice, new and big?Β

It looks like they dialed all the graphic settings in the PC version to max and called it a day from the snippets.

They picked the wrong Hot Pursuit. I prefer Hot Pursuit 2 from 2002.

It may be the highest rated, but 2005 Most Wanted is the more beloved title by the fanbase.

Yeah I think that Underground 2 and Most Wanted would be a lot of work to graphically enhance, so why not make a 2010 game which has closer design to modern games a bit better and sell that sh*t again? Genius right?Β

Hot Pursuit was a favourite back on the PS3 not that I played it much and given the price it seems quite reasonable for an EA title so I may well pick this one up on launch day.

Β

I would definitely have preferred Most Wanted from the PS3 era for a remaster though my all time favourite was the original Underground from the PS2 era (might have to source that 2nd hand again)

Β

At least unlike most EA announcements the games actual release isn't that far away so I guess that's something unusual for EA in recent years.

If you can put up with this annoying guy, here is a preview. It's now cross-play. This Hot Pursuit 2010 was great because it has that insane drifting. It's the only NFS where you can really control the drifting and do a whole loop road and over take cars in a drift with the exception of Payback.Β Β It's brilliant.Β

Β

Imagine being locked in an elevator this guy. You'd just crush his skull in the end, really, wouldn't you?Β

Yea watching that video on mute is probably a good idea.

Β

But yea, looks like they put everything on max, upped the res and called it a day. I'm sure there's some little things they've done as per usual with remasters but it doesn't look like it was given a whole lot of love. I'll probably, possibly, give it a whirl on EA Play through Games Pass next year, as I have kinda been wanting a cops vs robbers style game for a while.

Oh yeah! There's that. Did not even think of that.Β

This. I know the game-play is ridiculous, EMP's and spike-strips but damn it's fun. It's like some last-of-a-generation, high-octane arcade action. It was one of those few games I was routinely and consistently good at online.Β

Goddamn, really disappointed with the choice of remaster. Underground 1 or 2, Most Wanted, Carbon, the golden age of NFS would really boost the sales. Yet they take a reboot that doesn't really hold up to the original (IMO) to remaster. Shame.

Thing is, those games can't simply be remastered, they'd have to beΒ remade. Games that came out in the last 3 or so years of the 360/PS3 era are fairly simple to remaster, the assets are pretty good (not current gen AAA standards, but acceptable) and due to the PC versions - which either barely existed or were dogturd back in the early to mid 2000's due to publishers being terrified of piracy - they can port them pretty easy to modern consoles, dial up the settings, tweak a few things here and there and ship it.

Β

Games like Underground, Most Wanted and Carbon are simply too old at this point to remaster, they'd have to do a full blown remake and start from scratch I'd imagine.

I mean.... I didn't expect much from this remaster, HP2010 was one of my favourite games in the franchise and I was actually pretty excited for it, but charging 30$ for a game from 2010 with updated car models and all DLCs is just stupid. Was really looking forward to playing it again.Β

Look on the bright side, at least it's not $40 or $60.

Β

I personally think that $30 seems like a fair price.

And as Jason pointed out, anyone with Game Pass will eventually get this game as a part of EA Play which is coming to Game Pass. Sometimes when I have a quiet month and am tired of my backlog of games, I'll just buy one month of Game Pass to test out games I don't want/can't shell out full price for.Β

I agree charging full price for remasters is stupid. EA may be a scummy company but this is one of their best moves imo.

Squadrons, this and C&C remaster being $40 is pretty nice. I'm curious to see what the ME trilogy remaster is priced at, given it's 3 games in one. You can also wait a few months and pick up a month or two of EA Play for whatever it is, like 5 bucks a month and go wild.

Come to think of it, might be wishful (maybe tad unrealistic) thinking - remasters such as this can make for a good project come the time EA runs out of ideas/content for their latest titles. Can't say it'd be an easy project but I anticipate it being fairly profitable catering to the right audience. Personally I hope to see the games of the golden era of Need for Speed readily accessible like they were on it's own generation of consoles.Β

Β

The first introduction with Stellar on board for Burnout Paradise Remastered had me confident that EA is capable of refurbishing the old, and quite frankly I can't wait to see what they will do with Hot Pursuit, and hopefully more titles down the line.

So EA/Criterion/Stellar released these comparison screenshots to try and debunk the "there's no upgrade" accusations. Here's an excerpt taken from the Game Rant article:

Β

Quote

Β

The screenshots compare the updated version of the racing game to the original version of the game.

Β

The screenshots depict some ofΒ Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remaster's racing at standard resolutionΒ with max settings. Both are capture from theΒ PC versionsΒ of the respective games. EA has previously detailed some of the changes being made to the game. Interested gamers should look out for higher-quality car models, environmental reflections on the cars, as well as overall improved lighting. EA has selected its screenshots to best show off these features.

Β

There are four sets of comparison screenshots in total. The first is in bright light in a setting with a lot of environmental clutter. It shows how the developers have added objects to the environment, but also how theΒ draw distanceΒ has improved so there's more on-screen at one time. The second set similarly shows added details, with more barrels, signage, and trees. The third set features much darker lighting, showing off improved visibility, as better shadow effects. The last seems specifically designed to show how dramatically better shadows are in the remaster.

Β

Β Left is Remastered, right is the 2010 original:

Β

All this tells me is that you can only see the improvements when your... parked. In a high-octane game with police chases at 150mph+, I don't think it's going to make much of a difference. Nonetheless, its a good chance for those who sold the game/platform they played on to play it once again.

This difference, while noticeably nicer, just about - is more akin to what the free enhancements Microsoft/Xbox Series X is doing free for many titles. Except EA come along and call it a remaster.Β

Β

Now, this is one of the better enhancements that got released last yesterday but I would argue that Xbox's free enhancement upgrade (certainly going off this Ark example) is better than this remaster.Β

NowΒ THATΒ is the one they should've "remastered" I would've actually bought it too, would've been the first NFS game i've bought since NFS Most Wanted and even that was on Mobile

Underground 1 & 2, Most Wanted and Carbon. Where are the remasters? IfΒ they were bold enough there would be remakes already, just like in the Resident Evil franchise.

I forgot I have access to this game. I played about 10 hours. Going for all gold again. Online is so much fun. Did anyone else install it? You can access it if you have Game Pass Ultimate.

I was considering it when I had Ultimate but I only had a few weeks remaining and I was busy with Heat at the time. I still need to buy Heat since I used Game Pass for it.
