Although they could probably get rid of the electoral college altogether with the popular vote count being the only relevant number. But they should absolutely get rid of any electronic means of counting votes since they are likely much less reliable than manual counting. You can't convince me ever ever that you invented a hack-proof system. If they also managed somehow to get money out of politics maybe an actual independent candidate could have a chance to win. With the current system, every election is essentially rigged from the start. You're given two horrible choices (in this election, essentially two old dudes with dementia) that you don't really know what to do with which forces people to pick a party and vote with that forever even though one is not really better than the other. The core tenet of representative democracy is "one man, one vote". Equality of representation- that is, the notion that the nominal value of every eligible vote is equal- is part and parcel of this. The lack of equality of representation is one of the reasons that the US does so poorly in indices designed to measure political freedom. In terms of addressing this, a system where EC votes were directly proportion to the population of the state in question would be much more "balanced". 21 minutes ago, DEALUX said: Otherwise you'd pretty much have democrat presidents only til the end of time. How terrible would it be if the Republicans had to broaden their appeal to educated city voters, ethnic minorities and younger generations? Rigging the system to keep a staunchly traditionalist party competitive instead of forcing them to adapt to the evolving electorate is, frankly, moronic. ṼirulenⱦEqừinox
Yeeeah that's 100% fake looks like they just made it using Paint you can even see the outline of the tweet they took the screenshot of to make it using the the news release header from yesterday announcement of Sidney Powell being fired, i posted below not to mention the Trump/Pence logo is blurry while everything else is clear if you're going to try and fake an e-mail at least make it look legit but it's funny though but the mocking of the four season presser is getting old now though So the nutjob Sidney Powell that appear with Rudolph at last weeks presser has been fired from Trump's Legal Team Trump Team Disavows Lawyer Who Peddled Conspiracy Theories on Voting Quote Thursday November 19th Ms. Powell was described as a member of the legal team’s “elite strike force” Quote Sunday November 22nd “Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own,” it said in a statement. “She is not a member of the Trump legal team. She is also not a lawyer for the president in his personal capacity.” Quote President Trump’s campaign on Sunday disavowed Sidney Powell, one of his lawyers who has pushed false claims of voter fraud, after she made wild accusations that Republican officials had been involved in a payoff scheme to manipulate voting machines. Ms. Powell was described as a member of the legal team’s “elite strike force” at the news conference on Thursday as she laid out an elaborate conspiracy theory about efforts by the former Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez, who died in 2013, to essentially rig elections in the United States by using voting machines made by Dominion Voting Systems. While Mr. Trump has become obsessed with the idea of a global conspiracy, cybersecurity officials from his own government have said there is no evidence that machines were compromised. Appearing on the conservative network Newsmax on Saturday night, Ms. Powell further pushed the conspiracy theory, saying that two top Republicans in Georgia — Gov. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger — were taking payoffs as part of the scheme, and that Representative Doug Collins of Georgia had in fact won his race for Senate against Senator Kelly Loeffler. (He did not; Ms. Loeffler’s race is heading to a runoff without Mr. Collins.) Ms. Powell said she planned to file a “biblical” suit in the state. trip
Embarrassing disclosure: my dad is an old white guy, maga hat wearing Trump freak. The thing is he's a smart enough guy. He's got a law degree and his undergrad was political science even. I haven't talked to him since sometime before the election. To say we have different ideologies is kind of an understatement...but he's still my dad ya know. I just got off the phone with him. I expected a different response when I asked "so have you accepted the results of the election"? He responded with "No, It was bought". "He'll be back in 2024". Yikes. ṼirulenⱦEqừinox
@trip That's just it if the election was rigged then why did the democrats just rig the Presidential race why didn't they also rig the Senate race to make sure they held a majority in the Senate? In fact Democrats lost seats in the House so common sense would dictate that if they had actually rigged this election they wouldn't have lost any seats either but we all know common sense isn't a known sense of theirs

NaidRaida
One thing fascinates me about Trump and the psychological consequences: He CAN push things totally to the edge, that's a 'special' ability... itsallup
Okay now, but this mail voting is a joke to see a first world country like the US well amidst 21st century still voting by paper having manual counts. Brazil has the most efficient accurate and secure digital voting system ever made. And its been running since 1996. By the end of voting night they already know who won. We wouldnt have to drag on about recounts if we had a full out digital voting system.

As do we in the U.S but this year because of the pandemic more people voted by mail which in most states ARE NOT allowed to be counted until after all in person ballots have been counted which is why it took so long to confirm a winner this year otherwise we usually have a confirmed winner by 2am. Except mail in ballots weren't counted by hands....All ballots were counted by machines which is why Trump's legal team are screeching about changed votes, stolen votes and all this crap claiming the voting machine were hacked/rigged in favor of Biden. itsallup
2 minutes ago, sivispacem said: Interestingly paper ballots typically have lower levels of both fraud and error than digital voting machines. I dont see how a piece of paper could be less fraudulent than a digital secure software system. Of course to make it digital is not that simple. In Brazil for example you need to have a voting title. You are registered to vote only in a specific zone in a specific place every voting year. When you show up to vote you need to bring your voting title and your id. After signing and being verified by the attendant a code is generated and the second attendant types the code in a keypad and the machine afterwards is free for you to use. These machines are safeguarded by the military, and nothing is done online so the chance of being hacked and fraud is close to zero. They have a running time, so after a certain amout of time they shut down automatically. They are then taken by the military to the municipality justice department, where an offline computer extracts the information from each machine. The vote count is then sent to the Justiça Eleitoral or in english the Electoral Justice Department of the state in an enclosed network so all municipalities can be accounted for. Instead of truckloads of paper, the military usually carry 8 machines per truck, with close to 350,000 votes each.
ṼirulenⱦEqừinox
@Inttelix You do realize the U.S isn't a 100% vote by mail/paper system right? In 2016 out of 139 million votes only 33 million of those were by mail. We use the same exact technology as Brazil we just offer a secondary option for the sick, disabled and those working/living abroad The U.S System works exactly the same way, You have a specific polling place, you must show ID in order to vote and you go up to the machine and select your votes. Machines are also shut down at exactly 7PM and are taken by armored trucks with police escorts to the Board Of Elections where votes are then counted Our voting system are secured in the exact same way just not by the military but by specific dept of the U.S Government. The reason paper ballots are safer than machines is because unlike machines paper ballots can't be messed with after a ballot has been casted without either throwing the ballot out completely or asuring it gets rejected by the machine. If a paper ballot has been messed with the ballot will be rejected wholeheartly while with machines you can tell the machine to ignore any mistakes for whatever reason. While Curing a ballot is allowed only for minor issues such as signature or marking two candidates for the same office Edited November 30, 2020 by ṼirulenⱦEqừinox
