RenegadeAngel 3,258
Has anyone seen Narcos Mexico? How's the writing compared to the original series? I've seen mixed feelings about it.

I find the acting to be a bit better, and the overall tone is darker. I think for some, it takes a few episodes to grab you in, but by the middle of the first season, you get hooked. I absolutely loved each character both in the first and second season, some I wish had more screen time though. the story itself is about a story that not everyone knows and the names of, we all know about Pablo and how he made billions, etc. the second season really changes things and how the story moves, which you would have to see it to see what I mean. I second this. I'd say it moves at a slightly faster pace than the original. I can't wait for the next series. Both Narcos and Narcos: Mexico should really give Rockstar something to think about. I've said it for years on here but: Narcos/Nuevo Paradiso/Guarma shows me that Rockstar have played with a non-American setting that supports an American one. Narcos has showed that a crime drama that is not in English can still be popular with English audiences. They've never really done a cartel story and I'd be disappointed if they don't in VI (I mean, they blew the opportunity in V when Breaking Bad was at its height). Dan Houser has said before that he doesn't really watch much TV because he wants to avoid plagiarism. They've included some things here and there a couple references, some missions, but never some major themes or storylines. He's gone now though so who knows what the current writing teams approach is? Another thing with Narcos is that it's based on real people and real events so Rockstar they can easily do similar stuff as Narcos and not be "copying" them because they could just read old newspapers or books or do research about the same events. I agree with V being a missed opportunity, they could have easily had more cartel involvement. They should have found a way to make the map bigger and include the Mexican border with San Diego and TIjuana. Madrazo was such a joke I also hated that they completely ignored Marabunta grande MS-13 continues to be a ruthless gang. GTA takes direct reference from films and TV at every opportunity. The biggest being GTA Vice City effectively plagiarising Scarface. SA taking inspo from various films such as Boyz N The Hood, Menace II Society and New Jack City. It's less apparent in their newer titles, but there is still definitely plenty of media influence in the games. StuntGames, Patrizio, EGA_6 and 1 other 3

Madrazo was pathetic - I was a vocal IV critic on here before V and when Madrazo turned the way he did I thought "wtf?!". It was just unnecessary. No-one asked for that. MS-13 were, I believe, one of the biggest gangs in the world at the time. They put so much effort into parodying them but then just wasted them. It's very frustrating. I know they didn't want San Andreas 2.0 but more hispanic gang and cartel involvement wouldn't have hurt. Such a wasted opportunity, it really was. Len Lfc 14,687
Fun fact, Rockstar Games watched this video, as part of their research for new songs & stations in the Cayo Perico Heist. https://youtu.be/2vNuyeDw21Q This video doesn't allow embedding, annoyingly. Someone should probably think "Why it's loading for so long? It shouldn't be like that." I'm glad, that they acknowledged, that t0st was right.
