Low graphics problem with new PC

Recommended Posts

Hi.

After returning from a long pause and starting RDR2 anew with a new PC, I'm finding a huge downgrade on graphics plus texture glitches that I hadn't before. I'm not sure if it's my PC or something with the game, but maybe someone can help me narrow down the problem...

I upgraded from an old I5 with a GTX1080 TI where the game ran absolutely great to the following (kept the GTX1080 TI):   Ryzen Threadripper 3960X 24 Core on a ROG Zenith II Extreme, 32GB RAM, and running off a 1TB NVMeM2. I still have the same GTX1080 TI.

The problems I'm hitting since not playing from last year plus the upgraded system are huge downgrade on percieved graphics quality, texture popping far away, very noticeable washed out textures from close by (player hands while browsing catalogue), seemingly low performance, plus other glitches I can't remember now.

I set all the settings at ultra, just as I had with the old setup, but have been playing with some setting trying to figure out where the problem might be without success. What really creeped me out though is when I finally decided to let Geforce Experience recommend settings, and it recommends to me the lowest the game has to offer. This has brought me to thinking that this might be actually a problem with my PC rather than the game. I understand that my setup should have no problems whatsoever with the game, but who knows. By the way, all drivers are up to date.

Thanks in advance for any help...

I know R* has been messing with the graphics since the PC release. I haven't changed any settings but I see a lot of weird things come and go. Floating rocks is one of my favorites. lol

Also, the draw distance of trees and objects keeps changing every now and then.

I assume your res is 1080 since you said you have everything set to ultra. I use 2160 which gives me picture perfect crisp textures with 90% of the settings on low and only textures being on ultra. When I change to 1080 with everything on ultra, the quality isn't really much better than PS4. Smudgy ground textures in many places, plants are sorta blurry, things like that.

I doubt it has anything to do with your system since you're using the same graphics card.

Thanks StyxTx,

I'm on an ultra widefield monitor running a resolution of 3440x1440. I didn't change the monitor nor the resolution, and it ran great in the older less powerful system. I real pitty, because the game was amazing before, but it hurts to watch now. If it's the game, I guess I can only hope they fix it somehow.

By the way, the problem is present both in Vulkan and DX. But what I found really curious is that the Geforce experience recommends me the lowest settings for this game, but for any other I own it always recommends ultra. Seems strange...
