Yeah, USB 2.0 topped out at around 35 MB/s.

http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Super-Multi-Card-Reader-TS-RDF8K/dp/B0056TYRMW

That'd be useful.

It'd be handy to have around for benching the cards, though I can't really justify buying a 3.0 reader for the sake of some benchmarks, especially when it's something I just randomly decided to do. It's not a complete loss though, at best, the cards would top about at around 48MB/s (The SanDisk Ultra cards that I have are the older version, the newer version claims up to 80MB/s).

Anyway... I decided to test and older MSD card I have, SanDisk (no model name) It almost looks as if it was bottlenecked, though it has been tested in the same way as the others and it isn't hitting the bandwidth cap of USB 2.0, the same setup with the other cards was getting almost 40MB/s. I also thought I'd try out different ports as well...

Left - Native USB 3.0

Middle - ASMedia USB 3.0

Right - Native USB 2.0 (ignore CPU usage, Avast decided it wanted to wake up)

Hello folks, I currently have the Galaxy Note 3 and I'm going to upgrade soon. So far the LG G4 has caught my eye because that camera is a beast. Does anyone here own one? If so, can you give me your opinion on the device? As much as I love that camera, I'd like to know how it holds up with day to day use.

Feel free to suggest other phones, the only requirements are a screen of 5 inches or more, great camera, and under £400.

Thanks in advance for any help you folks can offer.

Well, I don't have one, but Linus seems to like it.

Thanks, man. I love Linus and find him pretty trustworthy. Had no idea he'd reviewed the G4.

Pretty excited to get the phone now, with winter coming up it'll be a good time to get used to the camera.

Q. What is the problem that Nvidia graphics cards are facing with Dx12? Will they be able to fix it by patches or will we have to wait for Pascal?

AMD did a fab job this time around with its HBM.

NVIDIA GPUs lacked Asynchronous Compute Shaders, a feature that has been available in AMD Radeon GPUs since the release of the 7970. And no, current NV GPUs can only emulate ACS at best. It's a hardware feature, not something that can be obtained via driver updates. And yes, your best bet is for Pascal to implement it.

EDIT: And also, AMD's superior DX12 performance only shows IF the DX12 game implements Asynchronous Compute. Fable Legends doesn't use it, hence why NVIDIA's current offering is still competitive with AMD.

I hope that Games won't use that Asynchronous Compute feature in near future so that we can have a good time with Nvidia cards on Dx12.

This whole palaver about async compute has been a tad blown out of proportion - it's a single feature that some games may or may not use, and the DX12 spec is far more than just one feature.

We have to wait and see the full performance of either company's cards before making any conclusions about which one is better for DX12 and the future tbh. It's like people misunderstanding the 3.5GB VRAM thing, and getting all angry despite being satisfied with the performance for months :sigh:

nVidia releasing a mobile GTX980M with the power of a desktop GT980 with its 2048 CUDA cores and speeds as the desktop 980.

Really not bad. The only problem would be the heat and price.

I guess people won't need to buy a heat oven nomore as laptops with such GPU will take its place nicely.

Why shouldn't they? It's one of the most awaited feature of DX12, other than draw call multi-core load balancing.

PS: Heard that an update for Vista, 7, 8.1, and 10 disables compatibility with SecuROM and Safedisc. How was GTA IV?

Did you guys see the recent news: Nvidia is gonna launch its new Dual GPU solution based on Maxwell chip soon. Just like Titan Z was based on Kepler. As Kampret mentioned that Asynchronous compute is something that can only be fixed with new hardware; that makes me think that Nvidia would be put into a great Dilemma of whether or not to fix the new card with Asynchronous compute problem. Because fixing with a new Maxwell based card would piss a lot of gamers. Provided all the fuss with 970, I don't think that Nvidia would wanna fix it.

That sets my theory 1:

+ Price Point would be high for Dual GPU (Obvious)

+ Provided they don't fix it (But gamers already know abt. the problem)

That implies that its sales are gonna be very low.

Theory 2:

+ Price Point would be high for Dual GPU (Obvious)

+ Provided they fix it

Gamers will feel even more betrayed after the 970 issue. The sales will be average (Provided its price point).

Well people made a huge deal out of the 970 problems and they still decimated the competition in the marketplace.

The lack of asynchronous compute isn't that much of an inhibiting factor. It's a "nice to have" but it's not some magic bullet that'll turn everything into a rig capable of playing V at 4k on ultra at 120fps.

nVidia knowing will probably price their new dual GPU 3000$ or more. If AMD can't come up with a better and cheaper dual GPU solution.

And nVidia has taken the monopolyposition on the mobile gaming GPU's. A desktop GTX980 in a laptop...? Don't give away both of your kidneys for that.

A lot of this ^

People made a big deal when AMD lacked 12_1 support, now things are blowing up again, but against Nvidia this time. All of it is lot of fuss over nothing. If attention should be put on anything its when either side gets hands on with devs which then results in proprietary nonsense being stuck into a game.

And as for the 970, I still get a laugh when I see someone gleefully point out the memory issue when a poster is having a problem with some game, suggesting the card is worthless now o.O' I absolutely love the 970, very cool & quiet and it performs very well indeed. The revelation (which took months to come out...!) over the 3.5+0.5 doesnt change where it is in the food chain.

I doubt anything AMD do will matter. The 295x2 was half the price of the Titan Z, Nvidia didnt care. Took them how long to even offer OEMs deals on it?

It makes good sense to launch the product tho, they get to sour the Fury x2, and instead of selling the cards with some cores removed for a discount (980ti), they just sandwich two together and stick a premium on it. They are just clearing inventory while doing a helicopter-dick dance.

And Silver Lake and AMD didn't come to an agree with selling stocks. What will AMD do now? They really need to do something otherwise problems will come for AMD

and for all of us otherwise Intel and nVidia are doing the ultimate heli-dick dances :/

one of those stupid automated voice's came on when leaving a site I needed skyrim weapon information on, the voice told me to call a number to have malware removed, I ran Malwarebytes and update and installed the latest version and ran it twice and came up clean twice with Malwarebytes!..

So I have these headphones that I used to use for my Xbox.. I just started using them for my PC. I want to fine tune my settings so I can get the best out of them.

Using this song as an example, how can I get a nice balance of bass while not having the voice and other sounds go flat?

Here's a screenshot of the slider options:

Sorry if this is in the wrong topic :p

You are the only one that can figure it out since you have the device that outputs the sound (i.e. the headphones). The first three EQ bands (depending on the song) control the volume for bass. Vocals are in the 85-255 Hz range (male plus female voice).

I personally wouldn't recommend using an EQ. You will distort the sound and go against what the artist\composer intended. If a flat EQ setting sounds boring on your headphones you should probably buy new (and better) headphones.

I agree with your first point and couldn't disagree more with your second one. "What the artist intended" - what if I'm a fan of more bass than the creator happened to be? What if I can't afford headphones for hundreds of dollars to get the "true" experience when I can get 99% of it by playing with the EQ? I listen to music pretty much all the time I'm at my PC and I couldn't live without the EQ. You won't distort the sound unless you go completely overboard with the settings.

Understanding the EQ is actually quite easy. The lower frequencies represent the bass as Kristian said. As you go higher up the frequencies you alter higher pitched sounds, hence the top sliders represent the treble and the middle is where a lot of the vocals go. Play around with the sliders and see where you end up, you can also test out the different presets.

I found a preset on the school computers called "party". It ups the bass and treble slightly which is exactly what I like in my music. If you find a preset you like you can fine tune if you want - make sure to hit Save when you're done and name it something personal. Top tip when you're done or found a preset you like, try switching back to "none" and listen to the difference. It's like night and day.

If your headphones don't naturally reproduce bass frequencies well you won't be able to do much with software. You will make noticeable distortions.

You don't need super expensive headphones. You can get something decent under $100 (for listening purposes). It sounds like you're talking about producer headphones which aren't necessarily going to sound good to you given that they have (ideally) a flat frequency response.

My headphones produce bass nicely but it doesn't occur in every song I listen to, which is odd, considering I listen to a lot of Aero Chord and Big Data :p I'll see if I can do it myself, but I do have presets as well, including party (as mentioned before)

I don't expect the greatest sound quality from my headphones, but I'll need something to last me a while.

I have these: http://www.panasonic.com/caribbean/consumer/audio-video/headphones/technics/rp-dj1200.html

I get no bass in any of my music, perhaps i have bad mp3's or i need a dedicated audio card?

The exact reason why I could care less about any dual-GPU NVIDIA card. What would it be called, Titan X2? Titan S? Titan Z MK. II?

So I ordered parts for a new PC on Friday and I apparently botched the order such that I'll have to assemble it myself. How hard could it be? The thing I'm worried the most about is the CPU. Do I need thermal paste for it?

Edit: Apparently it comes preapplied with the CPU (plus heatsink). Here's hoping I don't mess anything up and that all of the parts work.
