It's tough to buy a new GPU for a good price these days but I've managed to score a decent deal, 16 megs should last me for years   (jk)

Just bought a second hand Lian Li case.   Absolutely no idea what I'd need it for, but I like it already

My rig has been down since March/April and I'm finally getting around to taking care of business.  At first I thought it might be the sata controller on my mobo failing somehow.     I didn't

Just got my latest toy in the mail, a Max Nighthawk X8. Don't have any decent pictures of it yet, but

. I really couldn't be happier with it, it's one of the most expensive mechanical keyboards but it's definitely worth it in my opinion.

It's far from the most expensive mechanical keyboard out there. It's a decent keyboard, don't get me wrong, but it's no Das, Ducky or Filco. Those are around $200 and are built like a tank. Almost bought one myself, but opted for the Corsair K70 instead for the raised keys and the better backlight.

What switch did you end up going with? MX Browns?

Das Professional keyboards are $150 last I checked, and they really don't offer anything in particular over the Nighthawk (except a glossy surface that acts as nothing more than a fingerprint magnet). Build quality doesn't really seem like an issue to me considering I searched the internet pretty extensively before ordering and was unable to find a single negative review for Max Keyboards. Their build quality is great and their customer service is incredible. Also keep in mind that the Nighthawk is not as cheap as it might seem on the surface - if you want to go for extensive customization, your final payment is going to be close to $300 not including shipping (although personally I just went for the base model).

Switches are MX Browns. The K70 has MX Reds, right? I considered the K60 but decided against it because it was only available with MX Reds. It also had a significant amount of negative reviews on Newegg regarding build quality, and I think I would have a hard time trusting a Corsair keyboard after seeing those, even if they made promises of improving it.

My laptop is frequently overheating (I think) and I've done the basic cleaning the vents out.

I've also jerry-rigged a couple of elevated feet for it (the laptop) to sit on.

Is there anything else I can do to alleviate the heat problems and do you have a more permanent solution to my elevated feet. I was thinking of cutting some small wood blocks to fit it and them throw something under those to stop skidding.

Yeah, my K70 has reds. Haven't really heard of any issues regarding build quality with Corsair keyboards. The main issue with the K60 was that it wasn't fully mechanical. The K70 is fully mechanical and also includes the back light and the full length wrist rest.

...does it? Well, that's kinda unexpected. I wonder if it's a bug of some sort of what. Did you try disabling the HT nd seeing if the performance drops?

Link to post

Now that's some big news. I wonder though if all batches of this CPU have HT. If they do, it'll be excellent.

Link to post

Don't know if the all batches will have HT. If news gets out, then Intel will either disabled them on their next batch or

leave it on and then raise the price.

This is a little strange. I wonder if other owners of the same CPU can enable HT? On scan it says HT is in the features but then mentions only 4 threads lower down.

Did some digging and found more info on it.

Intel Xeon E3 1225 v3

Part number: CM8064601466507 = OEM/Tray/HT, S-Spec numbers: QE6C, QEHT, SR14U

Part number: CM8064601466510 = OEM/Tray/No HT, S-Spec number: SR1KX

Part number: BX80646E31225V3 = Retail/Box/HT, S-Spec number: SR14U

Part number: BX80646E31225V3 = Retail/Box/No HT, S-Spec number: SR1KX

S-Spec number: SR14U is either retail or OEM and has HT

S-Spec number: SR1KX is either retail or OEM and does not have HT, this could be the 2nd batch, it says available starting July 1, 2013

S-Spec numbers: QE6C and QEHT are engineering samples and both have HT

Finally got an HDTV... after using a SDTV for almost as long as I have been born (i'm not that old biggrin.gif)

http://store.vizio.com/e221a1.html

22 inch LED TV, I think it's alright for my first HDTV, right? Also got an HDMI cable... once I got home, I connected my Xbox and I couldn't believe the difference! I thought I was dreaming! My lord, the quality is outstanding on this TV. I may just upgrade to a 32" in the near future!

Wait until you start seeing the 4K TV's when they are more accessible!

Which CPU is the best to get? The i7-4770 or i7-3770?

They are the exact same prices but have to get a 1150 motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z87 4 or MSI Z87 MPower?

And which GPU is the best? MSI GTX780 Lightning or EVGA GTX780 Superclocked w/ ACX?

The summers here can be very tough and I just can't get a GPU with the Nvidia reference cooler.

4770 is a tad better.

Not to mention there is a review on a Dutch website Hardware.info about the new Haswell CPU's.

Crysis 3 on High and 1080p on i7-3770: around 60FPS.

On i7-4770: 90FPS!

That is a huge 30FPS diffierence! Now just need to know which the parts are good I mentioned in my previous reply.

I'll definitely go for the i7-4770.

I'd rather say there's something wrong with that review, there is no reason why would there be such a big difference.

As for the parts - MPower is possibly better, but do you need such an expensive mobo? The same goes for the GPU, especially given that new AMD cards will be launched soon so the prices should drop (as of now GTX780 has horrible price/performance ratio).

Which mobo do you recommend me? Good sound is important to me and I don't want to add a dedicated soundcard.

I prefer Nvidia because of their drivers. AMD is not doing very well with the drivers and so on.

Nvidia maybe will be lowering the price of the GTX780 once the new HD9000 are released but not planning to

build a new pc soon. Just somewhere this holiday. I just want a good pc I don't have to upgrade in the next 4 years or more.

And Nvidia Maxwell is taking too long to be released so not gonna bother waiting that long to upgrade.

As for the MOBO I'd think about ASRock Z87 Extreme4 - not terribly expensive and looks like it offer a good bang for the buck.

Alright, thanks. I'll look for that mobo.

I'll look further more about the GPU in this holiday and see what they are bringing up.

And you also recommend me the Fract Design R4 Define?

It looks nice and...normal. Always hated those fancy lights in a case.

Also handy to hide the DVD rewriter/reader.

Important question. which CPU cooler do you recommend me?

Sure I won't be overclocking since the Haswell has problems when overclocked,

but as I mentioned before, the summers can be very tough here and

I don't the stock Intel cooler can do any sh*t.

I can't imagine a tiny cooler is good.

Fractal R4 is a nice, decent case. As for the cooler, check out the Thermalright Macho - again, good bang for the buck.

BTW. So you don't plan to overclock the CPU and yet you want a very expensive mobo designed for OC... Are you for real? If you're sure about no overclocking, get yourself a Xeon E3-1230V3 and ie. ASRock H87 Pro4, you'll save tons of money.

Compared to stock clock you ask? Sure it does, but to get most out of it, I'd overclock higher (4,2GHz or more).
