Lootable Chest not reachable

Recommended Posts

cartrammer

I cleared a gang hideout in the desert and looted mostly everything except one thing, a chest in the back of a wagon. It's definetly lootable cause it shines when I use my eagle vision but there's an invisible wall that doesn't let me climb inside the wagon and open it. Is this a bug or is it supposed to be like this?

I've come across a few like that which have spawned below wagons - making them unlootable.

FWIW the chest almost certainly would have been empty had it been accessible.

Unfortunately I've found that quite a lot of tins and boxes that appear in tents, on tables, on the ground and on wagons during gang hideout spawns usually contain nothing but yet have the option to be opened anyway.  It seems to be a weird design on R*'s part, especially when they put them there when you can't even get to them eg. under the wagon during the Citadel Rock campsite defense spawn and one under a table beside a tent during the gang hideout spawn at Firwood Rise (no matter how many dynamite sticks you toss at that damn table, ya can't get it to budge!). :facedesk: Even outside the Rhodes bank, there is a platform that has several (luggage?) chests that glow yet have either nothing in them or are inaccessible.

I like the lockbox in the tower up in the Grizzlies north of O'Creigh's run. Biscuits locked in there. Must be damn good biscuits. lol

I had a unreachable treasure box from my treasure map, because a npc camp spawned direclty on it.

the box was covered by a tent, but I could "investigate" it, but could not loot it.

so I rode away, came back 10 minutes later, the camp was despawned and I could grab my treasure.

There's a similar issue with looting cabinets and drawers--you can't "skip" a lootable item in a drawer and go on to search the drawer below it. You have to take the item in order to search the next drawer. Shouldn't be that way.

Also, if a player has left drawers open in a cabinet's lower section, but there's an item I want on a shelf just above them, I first have to close all the lower drawers before I can finally take that item.

The only way you can "skip" a lootable item in a drawer, is if your inventory for that specific item is already full--the game skips it for you.

This stuff has been bugging me for a while, and it too needs to be fixed--thanks for the reminder!

Just wait until you experience the wonders of realism as you open a chest of drawers!

On more than one occasion, I've opened a cabinet/drawer/chest to find a greyed out item (I have too many of them, I guess) and a collectible and I'm not given the option to take the collectible as much as I move/spin around the items. I shoot the greyed item to destroy it and then I can take the collectible.

Cause there's a wide variety of lootable containers and furniture in the game and the fact they use those same pieces for purely decorative purposes, a lot of them are empty or unlootable (like the chest in the back of a wagon). St Denis has a whole bunch of them strewn across the streets.

Basically all games do the same, but cause a variety of the pieces are tagged as lootable they will still glow in Eagle Eye. There's even cases in games (and previous Rockstar games) of the devs clipping tall pieces of furniture into the floor to make tables or smaller book cases and stuff like that.

There's also an ongoing (but intermittent) issue with lock boxes in the back of wagons -with visible money or jewelry- that you can't loot... no prompt to "Take"; all you can do is close it:

You can Switch between These items in 1st Person Mode with L or R Stick. Its way more Harder in 3rd person

I think so:

I came across one, in a wagon at a camp of guys I killed. When using "eagle eye", it had that telltale glow of when it is something you can open/whatever.

I could not climb into the wagon, from the rear where the box was. On a run, I managed to kind of run up the front where you sit and then go through the wagon

covering into the back; the chest was empty =/ So yes, I think in such cases the chest is empty anyway (ones that you can't get to, via normal means.)

Yeah, another thing I don't like is how if you are FULL of an item it won't move on automatically to the next item in the chest/thing; I always have to kind of turn/move a bit

for it to then move on to the next item (or switching to first person helps.)  The only other thing you could do, in that case, is discard some of the item from your inventory if

it allows you to do that (so then you can loot all of the item in the chest/drawer, then move on.) It should be automatic, of course, the moving from item to item (whether you have

it or not.)  Again, it helps to use "eagle eye" to spot the several "lootable" items in the chest/drawer if they are ones you can see.

I can't recall if when I FINALLY got the poison poppy recipe if it was the ONLY item in the chest, otherwise it could be easy to miss such a thing if there were other items

and you were already full of them. In that case I KNEW the poison poppy recipe SHOULD be in one of those, because in a single player lobby I FINALLY saw the white

dot people said to look for between "Black Belle and the buildings to the South West." Sure enough, I went over there and the dot was blinking on the map ;)

Yeah, the inventory GUI (at least on the PC) has significant lag issues during "busy" times (e.g. during combat with NPCs).

There are also big mouse scroll wheel inconsistencies--where scrolling will (at first) start to go through inventory items top to bottom, left to right--until(!) it suddenly jumps entire rows, going straight down, row after row.

Gets very frustrating when you're trying to quickly find or use an item, let alone just take stock of collectables, etc.
