So, I started playing GTA III on PC...

I've heard lots of comments on YouTube saying that the PC version is superior, so I got interested in trying it out. Plus, there was the feature to add your own songs into the game, which got me even more interested.

So I got the game on Steam back in March along with Vice City and San Andreas.

When I started playing it... GOOD LORD! The Keyboard controls (In my opinion) have to be some of the worst controls I have ever seen and played with (Keep in mind. I was much used to console controls at that time, especially the PS2 controls.)

Here is a example:

"Luigi's Girls"

PS2/Xbox: "Passed it with no sweat."

PC: "Failed more than TWICE due to the Keyboard controls constantly resulting in my Vehicle being flipped over. Blowing Claude and Misty up in the process."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You guys might be saying right now "Seriously? Quit moaning and just buy a dang controller! It's not that difficult, nor it isn't that expensive either!"

Well, here's the real kicker. Not long after playing GTA III PC, I bought a Blue USB 360 Rock Candy controller from Walmart. You think that the controller would solve my problem, right? WRONG!

Just recently I tried to play GTA III PC with the controller after copying my custom music and guess what? There's no USB Controller option for the Control Options! Plus, manually setting the controls up is a massive nightmare, because-

  1. You have Two Control sections "On Foot" and "In Vehicle", so you have the option to chose which button does which. Problem however, you CAN'T set up the same button to a different control option, that also includes "Setting up a On Foot button to a In Vehicle control." Which means that everytime I set a button to the "In Vehicle" Control, it deactivates the same button input from the "On Foot" Control. And that just makes me infuriated.

In all regards though, I still love this game. It's still my third favorite in the GTA Series (With Vice City and GTA IV being my Top 2.).

Do I like the PC version though? Yes, I do!

This version did add some great features, three of them I like are the "Skins" and the custom "MP3" radio that has me import Custom Tracks (Although, I wanted to put my Custom Playlist on the Xbox version instead, but my Xbox couldn't read burnt discs.) and the big one of them all, "Mods!".

Is the PC version better than the console versions however? Well, to you guys, it would be a either "Yes" or "No" debate. But is it better to me? HECK NO!

It may have better graphics, more features, easier missions (Looking at you "Waka-Gashira Wipeout" with the M16 wielding Yakuza's fron the PS2 version.), etc.

But in all regards, GTA III PC (control wise) is my least favorite version of the game. Other features wise though, I would tie this version with the Xbox version (Since the Xbox version is basically PC/PS2 combined into one.).

Now that im done posting this topic, I'll get back to getting used to the Keyboard and cruise to Liberty City to the sound of Eric Carmen's Hungry Eyes while my frustration gets higher each time I play with it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: If I posted this in the wrong category or something, then I deeply apologize. You guys can just move this to a Rant category or something.

It takes time to get used to III's PC controls, even I had the same problem but now I am adapted to the controls and I can say that III's PC version is great!

Beware that if you're playing with the frame limiter set to off, physics will all be out of whack which could be why your cars are flipping more easily.

Then perhaps you should use said mods to fix your issues? There's a mod which brings proper modern controller support to all of these games and mods to fix many of the games issues caused by poor porting or by using outdated methods...

Here's the controller one (has versions for all games):

And here's something you should install to fix a bunch of broken crap in these games...

I always have that on, because I thought that turning it off freezes the game.

You download them and follow the instructions, many GTA3/VC mods are simple drag and drop in the right place deals.

Where do I drag them to?

Edit: Nevermind, I think I know what to do.
