should pearson have gone to guarma?

hi folks. so i am thinking about all the underused gang members. and i feel like pearson had some potential. i feel like he could have been super useful in guarma. the fact that he has been on ships and been to islands like guarma. it seems like a chapter perfect for him. we never see him fight or do anything else really. and its a shame. i dont know exactly what he would have done in the robbery. but im sure they could have fit him in. we had strauss take part in the boat robbery. and he was not one of the main gunmen in the gang. so what do you all think? would you have liked pearson on guarma? i really wish we could have seen him be a cornered tiger. he seemed like such a cool character. but he is hardly ever used.

The Guarma part was the weakest part of the game. Nothing could have made that part of the game interesting.

 

The Guarma part should have been replaced with them escaping and hiding in New Austin.

Pearson was in the alligator egg side mission. It was hilarious watching him run fast to get away from the gators.

Considering John lived about 3 minutes north of New Austin and visited there at bare minimum once in 1907, I wouldn't put too much stock in that quote.

 

But even accounting for that, John spends the entirety of Chapter 5 in custody, so that quote could be hand-waved as him meaning he never made it to New Austin and not necessarily the gang as a whole. Adding on more content to New Austin or even adding Neuvo Paraiso would have also been a much smarter design choice IMO.

I'm still baffled by Guarma. Can't play it much, limited, a linear escape mission and then back to reality never to return. 

 

R* missed the boat on Guarma. 

 

But yeah--Pearson had a well developed character I thought that could've been employed in a few other missions. That would have been nice.

When i first saw his artwork, i thought he was fat tough guy same as bill williamson. But in the game, he is just a comedian :D i would like to see him in the action just for one mission with his high top hat.

 

About strauss, he even using a gun in the sheep and goats mission.

Making it open to free roam, with some secondary missions to do, would do it for me.

Bonnie: How well do you know New Austin?

John: I don't. We talked about coming down here many times but we never made it.

Bonnie: Who's "we"?

John: Me and the folks I used to..... used to work with.

 

From our point-of-view, New Austin isn't far from Beecher's Hope. But in-universe, the ride from Beecher's Hope to Hennigan's Stead is likely to take at least around a couple of hours. 

 

But I suppose you do make a decent point. But it'd still feel off for five of the main gunmen of the gang to make it to New Austin. Not only that, but having John go to New Austin feels off as well, even if you technically don't have to make him go there except for maybe once or twice. It's like the Star Wars Prequels, where there were changes to the lore that technically didn't contradict the canon, but still felt incongruent to the original trilogy.

I personally feel as though New Austin should've been left out of the game.

The Guarma chapter was where Dutch got the knock on the head during the boat wreck that caused him to change like he did. I think they could have come up with some other way and spared us the Guarma thing.

i totally agree. i think the only reason that new austin is in the game. is for nostalgia from the first game. its not needed at all. in fact i think the new version of new austin. looks worse and does not feel the same. thats why i am okay with no nuevo paraiso. because it would feel the same way. now i do hope that they do add a new part of mexico in the next game. but we dont need to have the old map strung along. the new rdr2 map is great as it is. we did not need the old map.

I have always thought that Guarma is re-used content from the development of Agent, just as a lot of the FIB missions in GTAV.

Failed Again

I just finished Guarma, for the second time. I thought it was fun.

Lots of shooting and nice scenery.
