What's wrong with the lobbies?

You can make friends here and add them to your friend list and you all can play together when you're on together. That's how I've done it. Start a posse then make a post asking people to join.

Personally, I've never made friends inside the game. First of all, no one hung around long enough to even emote them, much less sit in a bar and have a drink with them.

Well, less than 1% (i'm guessing) of the player-base is on this forum.

Before the lobby bug I met people from time to time and friended them.

A lot of the people I met doing random shootouts in St Denis and frankly most people on this sub don't like to have random shootouts - most here prefer to play the game in solo mode and just want to be left alone (like story mode). Which if that's your thing, cool - but I like the online game to be more hectic and unpredictable.

I mean how many gold bars and how much cash do you really need? I have no reason to make more gold and cash at this point and just want to have fun playing cowboy.

Having an online game in 2020 with 5 people in the session just isn't appealing to me.

I grew up on old school MMORPGs with hundreds of random people in session with you. I met some of my best real-life friends in games like Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Ever Quest, etc... That's the population I would love to see in RDO.

Well, there are games like GTA with plenty of people in lobbies. There are also other RDR forums to meet people. For now, small lobbies are all we have until they can figure out the spawn issues in larger ones, if they ever do but I'm not so sure they will.

Back in April during quarantine I picked the game up after a months-long break and just so happened to spawn in next to the swamp shine shack as a random posse was getting ready to sell a load. They invited me, we friended one another and three of us have all been playing together on the regular ever since, a core trio that picks up newcomers here and there who stick around for some time. It's great!

Or the other day, as one of four in a session, I actually got targetted for a Player Assassination which resulted in a sniper duel on the border of Heartlands and Scarlett Meadows. They didn't press the attack after time was up and we never saw eachother again after parting ways but knowing somebody in the session might be nursing a grudge and want revenge just added a little spice to the rest of the session, what's more Western than that?

May wanna research roleplaying my dude. Many don't play for the money or gold, they are just a positive consequence of enjoying the game.

Plus as this game just keeps on adding roles with more promised, maybe that's why we are where we are. R* has publicly said they are aware the playerbase more wants a PvE experience of it. Makes sense they do more and more to appeal to what they feel is the majority.

Anyway, you've been here long enough to know that there's been more than 30-odd players that like to play a similar game as you. I'm sure you could fill a lobby from the 1% of the playerbase that's here.

There's a lot of NPC's in town now. I can't remember going to Valentine and need to swerve through NPC's. Nor do I remember seeing chickens there. This feels like a new game, almost.

Nor chickens, nor pigs, nor sheeps, nor the train every so often.

Yes.

For example, there are pigs at the little farm west of Valentine.

I never knew there were supposed to be until playing a little in single player.

Now the pigs are back because the game works, previously while the game would hardly spawn any animals I never saw pigs there, not once since starting the game last November.

So you haven't played story mode?

I have made it part way through chapter 2, social club says that's 32% complete.

Single player games don't really interest me, especially if there's only one potential ending.

I would like some variation of that outfit for my character, however.

One of the mods for Mount & Blade had similar outfits, which could be looted from NPCs...

The low lobby actually managed to redeem the game for me, it's still broken but fun and enjoyable

Yeah, though I'm a bit nervous seeing as I started the game with 10 other players last night... it dropped to 3 a bit later, but the numbers seem to be sporadically increasing in recent days.

I think R* are maybe testing the limits of how many players can be in a lobby and it still remain stable.

I'm not against that tbh, if R* can find a sweet spot where everything works as it does now I don't really care if there are 12 or so other players in a lobby with me, the map is so big, when taking the relatively slow pace of travel into account, they we'd still only see other players occasionally.

Non Funkable Token

^I think they just can't find that sweet spot in which the lobby is big in numbers and LAs spawn at a decent rate, so are leaving small lobbies now until the next update drops and LAs become stale.

I don't think they'll be able to get back to the large lobbies unless they get rid of the p2p servers. Random events don't seem to coexist with p2p.

6-10 player sessions seem to be the new normal for me since Friday night, at least upon initial login. They tend to dwindle down to near solo within an hour so, the rate of replenishment is less than the losses. No noticeable affect on spawn rates at the upper end though.

Yeah, even with 11 players in a session, random events have been noticeably lower to me.

I've noticed this.

Legendary Animals seem to still spawn without issue, but the frequency of other random events, with the exception of the almost ever present Moonshiner Roadblocks, takes a very noticeable nosedive.

I actually feel like the game is a more lively and populated experience now.

I've engaging in activities all the time and really enjoying it. Met a few people and found them to be far friendlier than usual so the social side of the game improved for me.

1 error/disconnect so far having played for 40-90 mins each day for 2.5 weeks

1 black endless black screen for the same play time

Compared to the previous experience of it taking 5+ mins to load into a session and having about 5-9 disconnects in a 40 minute play session

I understand the frustration of those who do want populated lobbies however and perhaps they can now understand how the rest of us feel when we couldn't play the game how WE wanted to.

This is why I believe lobby OPTIONS and CHOICES would be better for everyone. Let us have invite only lobbies or smaller lobbies as a choice or opt for larger PvP-centred lobbies.

There is no 'one size fits all' when it comes to desired playstyle and lobby size. And it is within R*'s power to provide us with lobby choice, so it is incredible they flat out refuse to do so.

R* has simply inconvenienced solo/PvE players and those with connection issues (or who have smaller populations in their country) since RDO's launch. The current state of the game inconveniences those who wish for larger lobbies with a PvP focus.

Lobby selection would give all players a sandpit to enjoy the game. Make it happen R*

I've found this to be true even with fewer players the last few days (since Tuesday maybe?), and animal spawns are less abundant.

I particularly noticed the lack of animal variety while looking for desert animals to sample recently, all I saw were rabbits and pronghorn. Rabbits don't count for desert critters and there's no way I'm wasting my time chasing pronghorn around every rock, bush, and gully in creation.

Iguanas and Gila monsters were my targets, nice and relatively slow, those.

Seeing a player once in a blue moon makes the world feel much larger than it is. People used to congregate around Valentine or Saint-Denis and it always, without fail, descended into a sh*t show with all the NPC's scared off/dead, random events cancelled and one player on a rooftop with the Bolt Action killing everyone. Reminded me I am playing a video game.

This isn't from GTA:O, but I'd like the dumb names we were asked to create for our cowpokes to show over our heads instead of our usertags. I'd rather see "Clementine Shaw" that XXxxSN1P3RL0RDZxxXX, especially since you named your horse, 'Horse'.

When I first got into Gtao, I was surprised to see my usertag instead the name I gave my toon at the character creation screen, I mean, whats the point giving them names?
