AmyStone
On Tuesday evening there were very few players in each session. I jumped around a few times but never found a session with more that 4 people. Wednesday evening things were back to normal and each session was full. Then again last night whatever session I joined there were never more than a few people in it. Anyone else seeing this? Lonely-Martin
Been reading others sayibg much the same, but as it's RDRO I give it no thought anymore as the game just hasn't had a prolonged period where something isn't broken as sh*t, lol. I returned Wednesday after seeing the latest patch helped and of the 2 sessions I was in, it was nice and empty. f*cking bliss IMO. I hope R* let this stay as is until the next DLC. StandardDonkey
Yea whether R* is doing this on purpose or not, I love it. The game is so much more alive for me in these small lobbies. Hideouts, random encounters, moonshine activities, rival collectors, Legendaries more common. I hope it stays like this darkmaster234, BUT THE BENZ, Liyah Jade and 15 others 16 1
Captain Kyra
I've been put in small lobbies a lot since the last patch. I haven't seen any gang hideouts for ages though.
Leftover Pizza
IMO, there is nothing wrong with the lobbies. I actually think they work as intended now. Low populated, events spawning, missions starting properly, no disconnect fear much, overall a stable game with working content. Nothing wrong with that at all. Previously, I haven't seen a freeroam stranger in need in a long time, nor hideouts. Ran into several of them last evening. I actually had good fun in playing RDO again. Nothing wrong with the current lobbies at all. ghostsoap01, Chunkey_Monkey, darkmaster234 and 10 others
GrungeNinja
Even with random events or legendaries being more often because of fewer ppl around, yet I play RDO because its a multiplayer, so few ppl to play with/against = no fun for me. I rather would like to see R* working in the technical side to make the game works like it was supposed to be. IamCourtney
kcole4001
Had the same yesterday afternoon on PC, a session of 7, then 4, then 2. The morning was normal with over 20, though. DentureDynamite

AStiffBreeze
I do wonder if Rockstar is running some tests in production: changing player numbers in lobbies so they can see if there’s a material difference in how many legendary animals spawn. I mean we already know that there are, but maybe Rockstar aren’t certain of it yet. The fact that the most recent legendary was added as a Harriet mission makes me wonder if Rockstar were looking at how many players were able to sample or skin the free roam legendary animals, and were shocked at the incredibly low number of people who had. Then as they looked into it, they heard players saying that they just didn’t work in populated sessions. kcole4001 and DentureDynamite

Last night's sessions for me had 4, 5, 7 players in it (including myself). Got a 'daytime' treasure tree map, and loads of collectibles from dead lawmen and NPC loot. 8^D Lonely-Martin, Rev. ZombieBatman
I've been in lobbies with around 5 other people, honestly it's heaven without having so many idiots around shooting anything that moves. Leftover Pizza
Another advantage of this low pop lobby: My PS4 Pro isn't trying to imitate a jumbo jet anymore. I suspect the lobby merging thing they came up with, has left the building for now. It may have put too much stress on data transfer and the console hardware. I'm a happy camper. kcole4001
Today started out with just 2 of us, so I considered doing the long distance trader delivery. Then just before the goods were full it became 6. Then alternated between 5 and 6 for the first sale of '1 good'. By the time I got back to camp there were 10 players, I still did a second delivery to finish off the daily, hate leaving things unfinished. ================================ 2 hours ago, AmyStone said: Ok, so since the update it's been alternating between fully populated lobbies and almost empty ones. They don't seem to realize they'd score some major points for publicly telling us that this is what they're working on setting up, you know 'just finalizing the format, be patient, we do listen'... that sort of thing would do some good by smoothing out their rep with the community. When have they ever done that? I haven't played for a few weeks but up till then, in crowded lobbies, events of any kind were rare. I could go hours without any camps, strangers, ambushes, etc. Smaller lobbies or private lobbies, they were abundant. ALifeOfMisery
I really hope that nothing is "wrong" and that these low population lobbies are something that is a deliberate implementation by R*. They are so much more stable, there are more NPC's, random events are plentiful and varied and the game is so much more immersive without constantly going into towns and encountering mass slaughters. My PS4 Pro is much quieter when in these low pop lobbies too, which is a bonus. Jason, Leftover Pizza, DentureDynamite and 5 others

Yeah, oddly enough, as someone who spent hundreds of hours in solo public lobbies in GTAO I actually don't mind being in a 20+ player lobby in RDO, but I do want and expect the game to work properly and have the full amount of content available at all times. The truth is, and this will be clear to anyone who has played in both high and low population lobbies, that the game isn't stable and the full range of content isn't available when in a high population lobby. So, given the choice, I'd far rather be in a lobby with less players. Rev. Gnash, jazzbone, kcole4001 and 2 others

So, given the choice, I'd far rather be in a lobby with less players. I just logged in for another session about 20 minutes ago. In those 20 minutes I've encounter, no joking, 1 save stranger mission to Thieves Landing, a moonshine roadblock at the bridge and the hideout at Quaker's Cove, one right after another. In an earlier session, again low populated, I traveled from the Great Plains to Fort Mercer for the daily challenge. Along the way there, I ran into 3 moonshiner FR events, completing me the daily for that profession and looted enough stuff to complete 2 Collector's challenges. Corpses don't despawn in low pop lobbies and when I got to Fort Mercer, the hideout there triggered. This is how the game should be running and I'd pay a monthly fee if we'd ever get the choice. Not gonna pay more than 2,99 a month for it, though. But the way the game runs in a low pop lobby is simply bliss. And this proves everything we already knew before. This game just doesn't run well in higher populated lobbies. beachfan12, Lonely-Martin, DentureDynamite and 3 others
StyxTx
One of the problems I had with the frequent merging was gold rings and cores would disappear along with any pelts I had on the horse. Got to the point I wouldn't use anything to gain gold cores or rings since they'd be gone in a minute or so anyway. DentureDynamite

Jason
It is remarkable how full of life RDO feels when the player count is this low. NPC's everywhere, animals everywhere, events popping, legendary animals actually spawning. The fact it's so jarringly noticeable tells a tale on the state of normal/intended RDO sessions. I don't think I've ever used this much ammo on free roam spawning events. Hideout here, moonshiner blockade next, another hideout, poachers, live everywhere. And most important of all, the game just runs smoothly and doesn't overheat my console anymore. Leftover Pizza
There's a lot of NPC's in town now. I can't remember going to Valentine and need to swerve through NPC's.
