In what direction will GTA 6 go?

GTA V is in my opinion the worst game in the franchise. Been playing gta since 1997 and I am not kidding. Each game has its pros and cons, but no other gta is as full of faults as gta v.

• Lack of content. Currently re-playing gta:sa now and i realize how much more content there is in it compared to gta v. There is finally things to do in los santos. Gta v even copy and paste content from gta sa, such as the whole lowrider dlc to online. Even classics such as "Vigilante" is stripped away.

• Incoherent design decisions. You die very easily, so its very realistic in this sense. On the other hand, you can kill someone with one punch to the face. The game mixes elements of realism and arcade in ways that does not make sense. Vehicle deformation is one example or how cars laying upsidedown can be tilted back by steering left or right. Sure, the game becomes more easy for beginners - unless you jump and land on the roof because that often cause your car to explode and you die instantly. Modding vehicles barely has any effects: a sports car handles better offroad than a car crafted for offroad driving. The game is both free and very restrictive down to the small details;  you cant even mix clothes how you want because each character "style" is forced. You cant buy properies either because it would not suit your characters "will". Freedom is very limited.

Poor execution. The AI is piss-poor, so poor that police cars chasing you cannot do it on their own, hence, rubber-effect is used like in Driv3r from 2004. Police cannot arrest or fight someone either - their only response in to shoot to kill like in GTA 1 from 1997.

All AI is set to hate or dislike the player by default. Fighting system is on par with fighting in GTA: Vice City. You cant even crounch - just like in GTA 2 and gta 3. The ragdoll physics is worse than what it was in 2008 when gta iv was released.

Then, RDR2 was released, and despite all my fears, it turned out to be pretty much the opposite to GTA V. It felt more COHERENT, free, and fresh and WAY more polished.

What about gta 6?

Online will return, obviously. But what direction will gta take? It cannot possibly be a stripped down version of gta v because what will then be left? Will it be more coherent? More or less free? How will realism vs arcade be distributed in a way that makes sense for a gta game?

Will we see nextgen rubberband effects? No joke.

is it illegal to give credit where it's due now? For the many issues GTA V has, to say it's all faults is simply inaccurate.

The game improved the cover system.

The most smooth controls and gunplay in the series.

Like it or not there's a surprising amount of underwater contain and details

Animals and even MORE animals in the next gen release

FAR more weapon customization this time around

While the melee combat decisions are questionable, its by far the least clunky in the series and is pretty smooth.

Once again like it or not, there are some new non criminal activities to participate in

First game with a full on first person mode

great car interior and weapon details now

Like it or not, there are forms of rpg elements

Pretty cool movies and shows to watch (many returning from GTA IV/TBOGT with all new episodes)

Only game in the series with flyable commercial planes

Relatively interesting cheats

Best vehicle customization in the series (yes better than GTA SA)

2nd game in the series with replayable missions

while an overall downgrade from SA and IV. the climbing system is pretty dynamic and easily the smoothest,

quick tossing throwable slot weapons

Director mode

Rockstar editor

Carnivals actually WORKING this time

Customizable parachute options

Most vehicle variety in the series

And I'm sure there's plenty more in this game

But if you REALLY want to know what GTA is almost entirely all faults with no pros, then no further than GTA LCS, a literal cashgrab with almost nothing withstandding about it and is an overall downgrade to even GTA VC (which uses the same freaking engine).

Without turning this into another V slag-off fest, which is tempting, I'll give my opinion on the direction.

To state the obvious: different. Rockstar always changes the focus with each game and does so well in a way that keeps it fresh (even if it doesn't please everyone). I fully expect them to have a more serious story with VI, even if it is in sunny Vice City (which for some means it cannot be serious... go figure). I predict they will drop three protagonists. Perhaps two, maximum. Three isn't workable in way that V did it and I think they realise that now. I also predict (and have done for years on here including pre-Project Americas) that VI will be the first GTA to have a location outside of the USA (think of Mexico in RDR).

I genuinely feel they will "right the wrongs" of V, so to speak, and this time will have the advantage of a new console generation. Other than that, they will still probably remove some small details/features from V that we like now but don't realise we do - they do it every game. But the overall direction will almost certainly be different from V. I imagine a rise to top theme but with a dark twist - Vice City meets GTA IV.

Generally the same direction gameplay wise. You said it yourself pretty accurately; " The game mixes elements of realism and arcade in ways that does not make sense. ". Very true and immersion breaking. The same thing happened with RDR2, which is enough of an indicator for me to think it will happen with VI also.

" Sloppy gameplay execution " as well as " piss-poor AI " are now Rockstar's trademarks. There's simply no space for thinking it will somehow be different in VI. Free-roam activities are being reduced to repetitive, boring and grindy concepts far from worthy in any sense. Scripted missions is the field where Rockstar devotes most of their time and resources, yet we only get a few of the decent, above average missions. The only sphere where I would see VI shining is the narrative, story-telling part of things. Honestly, with Dan and LJ gone, even that is being questionable now. Of course, the SP will be nothing more than the testing grounds for the 0nline portion. In conclusion, Grand Theft Auto isn't a video game anymore, it's the business model and I hope from the bottom of my soul that at least the majority of the general public, as well as the critics will finally understand that and will have some balls to acknowledge it as such and hence will rate it accordingly.

sad but true really

it's more or less one of the main reasons i'm more hyped for a new saints row or mafia release tbh

ideally i'd wish for a new crime open world ip similar to vice city to enter the market but i dont think that would happen anytime soon

This is false. In GTA 1, police actually did a real effort to arrest you, if I'm not mistaken even at the max wanted level. And they were very effective too, better than the cops in any 3d universe game.

True but see GTA advance seemingly tried to use the GBA as much as it could. Sure it probably shouldn't have been made but I understand the reasoning for it. GTA LCS REMOVED helicopters just because they were too lazy to make some damn low res roofs.

Also police do arrest you, it's just that you have to stand completely still. Even the way they arrest you from your car is an improvement from GTA IV.

finally someone understands.

@ChengizVlad09 to expand on what you said, I’m kind of thinking that this is what the next game will be. It’s my theory that work on VI began as early as mid 2014, but that project was shelved or scrapped due to pressure from T2 wanting R* to just focus on the online aspect since that’s where the long money is. Many will point out Dan saying in like 2018 that he wouldn’t know what to make VI about in this political climate, but I think this was hinting at the fact that the game was to take place in the past.

I think T2 compromised and told R* that they could make a “story campaign” but it could not be SP. But it could be a BIGGER online. So development on a new GTAO with a story incorporated into it starts development. Dan freaks out because he cannot (as he thought this was a dumb idea before) tell a story the way he likes while incorporating the nuances of online multiplayer into it. (4 mute characters every mission lmao). Whole idea is seen as a clusterf*ck, Dan has enough and leaves, Lazlow follows suit.

I think that’s why Jason says they’re in “early development”. Because the original game was scrapped.

SJW Galore. This is why Dan had to go. Market Research up the wazoo. Faggio will disappear. I don't have high expectations.

I've never played any HD GTA and I think a mix of San Andreas, Total overdose and Saints Row 2 would be excellent.
