DJ-Jelly-Doughnut
So I'm looking to possibly sell my 1987 AM General HMWWV. It's not a cheap vehicle and I live in a cheap area. I'm trying to find which route I should go about finding her a new home. She's in terrific shape but she's not very practical to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Aquamaniac
I don't know how things run in the US but you'll need an other car then? Why not trade in this car at the car's dealer for another car? What are your concerns in general?
DJ-Jelly-Doughnut
My concern is just how much it costs just to sit in my garage. I currently have 2 other vehicles, plus the missus' car. I just don't like that it's a lot of money parked most of the time when that money could be put to better use. I'm not sure a dealer would give very much. They never do in my experience anyways. Aquamaniac
So the internet then or real life auctions? Possibly a bad time to sell expensive cars though, maybe you better wait until the pandemic is over. DJ-Jelly-Doughnut
DJ-Jelly-Doughnut
This is true. Anyone have any experience selling online? I know some of these take a big chunk out of whatever the selling price is. If its reasonable I'd post online though.
Joe Biden
Pandemic didn’t really affect the classic / special car market much. You’re fine putting it up for sale now. Best way to go is probably hemmings or something similar. DJ-Jelly-Doughnut
GrudgefromSanAndreas
I'd like to see more Milspec Humvees and rebuilt H1 Hummers being made and sold in USA. I like them way more than rams, suburbans, silverados, escalades, navigators, f150s and all the other boring suvs and pickup trucks

Adrenalist
I think bringatrailer.com is a solid resource. The fees are small compared to most auction houses and they write the ad for you. Also, you can gauge the market on past auctions: https://bringatrailer.com/search/hummer+h1/ Note that good pictures are a necessity for any kind of online sale. You need attention to detail and if you take a hundred or so good ones with proper lighting, it’ll likely get a premium. It’s also highly recommended that you put it on a lift for undercarriage shots. Perusing auctions and developing a keen eye on what people are doing right/wrong with their photos will give you a better shot at maximizing the profit. From what I’ve witnessed, the vehicle market is soft, save the extremely niche items. I’ve my reservations as to whether or not the H1 would be affected in the market right now. You could also always list it on eBay (acknowledging that your pic game needs to be solid) and put a buy it now price that would slightly exceed your expectations. With this option you need to do phraseology research and see how other sellers phrase their ads. A few hours spent doing would likely save you needless headaches. Selling online is a useful tool, but you need to invest your time and research to maximize your selling potential. Best of luck. It’s a very nice truck. DJ-Jelly-Doughnut
Thanks for the help! I'll definitely be looking into bringatrailer.com. Its a solid vehicle. I just find myself babying it too much and it stays parked more than on the road. Thanks for the input. By the way, what was your opinion on H1s in the used car market right now? Ill take any input anyone has. Thanks!
Adrenalist
Well, I haven’t been paying much attention to vehicles as a whole. I’ve witnessed a few examples that I currently watch being sold for less than I anticipated over the last few months. That being said I did a little digging, and for the month of July, it looks like new car sales prices are down, and the used car prices are on the rise. Reason is, people are looking to spend less money for a vehicle. This has resulted in a lower supply of used vehicles on the market, which has driven the price up in said used car market. So my original assessment could ultimately be misguided. For the sports cars I’m monitoring, this has not exactly been the case, so I should’ve researched and phrased it as such. Back to the H1’s value, I hesitate to speculate as I’ve never paid much attention. What I would do is join a hummer forum, present your vehicle, and ask for a baseline. That should put you on a decent trajectory. Anyway, again best of luck on the sale of your.... Patriot. DJ-Jelly-Doughnut
DJ-Jelly-Doughnut
You know... I was actually going to put those chrome letters on the back that spelled out 'patriot' before I realized jeep has a patriot... and some people would think this was an older model of that.... Tchuck
If you're still looking for a place to sell it, I'd take a look at Cars and Bids. They're less elitist than bring a trailer, have a shorter timeframe for getting your vehicle up and running. It's run by Doug DeMuro, who makes some very good car reviews.
