Aside from dailies, what is the currently best way to grind gold bars?

Recommended Posts

Beatrice

I haven't really been playing much since Outlaw Pass 2, so I barely had enough bars to get OP3 on PC/PS4. Now, being at almost zero, I am trying to rush some bars to at least get into the new role. Dailies are slow (especially without the streak built-up), hideouts don't really spawn that well unless you're in a solo session, so it's not that easy to farm treasure maps, is there any other way I am forgetting about? Surely it can't be about spamming bounty hunting posters, right?

No real alternative unless you want to bore yourself to death with waiting until the last minute in bounties.

You could do stranger missions as that also gives gold but still not that great, maybe Free Roam Events but I’ve not paid many to see what the rewards are like.

I’ve finally hit 1000 gold bars and I’ve only ever done Daily Challenges, sometimes Bounty Hunter ones and stranger missions.

And according to my stats I’ve spent nearly 450 gold in game too, so the best gold grind is to get your Daily Challenge up to 28 days, since you can get up to 11 Gold Bars daily now, so over 300 a month if you manage to complete all dailies every day.

If haven’t seen it yet, you could make use of my Daily Challenges website http://rdodailies.com which I update every reset, so you can track your daily’s and plan out what you want to do without launching the game first; and you don’t have to check the menu each time you complete one to remember what you need, you can click on the square box to tick it off, and it should keep the box ticked each time you visit the site until the daily’s reset.

The in-game time is at the top of the page also, to help you keep track of the time of day also without checking in game, as well as a gold counter (currently only 0.5 gold, but will be adding a option to change to it if you don’t have a streak). As well as a daily challenges remaining counter next to the gold counter.

Despite being new to RDO, I played a lot for a month, so I thought I could add a few more things in case they can be helpful to you.

First, as Adam said, you should keep doing a daily challenge everyday to increase your streak, this is the easiest and most important thing you can do, it just requires a little bit of patience.

Now what i did to help me in the start was the following: I bought the Collector role. After that for a few days I grinded for collectibles to collect cash and increase my ranking. It's a little bit boring but it's super easy to increase your rank and level up just by finding collectibles and then selling the whole sets. Each time you level up 5 ranks you get a treasure map. Treasure maps gold varied for me from 0,65 to 1,90 gold bars. Keep ranking up and all of the gold adds up.

Another thing, in case you don't know, is that you can reset some of the in-game awards and get gold for it. For example, after you spend 1.000 dollars in shops you can reset the award (found in the Trade section, you press and hold the square button on PS4) and get 0,40 gold for it. You can do this up to 10 times I think. (I did it 10 times so thats 4 gold bars just from that).

Also, if you play a lot online, buy the Outlaw pass 3 as soon as you can. You get all 40 gold bars back by the time you reach level 80 and also other bonuses (imo the most important being the xp bonus boost ) and 2 treasure maps if I remember correctly.

That all is of course if you can actually play online because at the moment the game is literally unplayable (at least for me on PS4) with all the blue screen crashes and all the other bugs.

Further to the Daily Challenges, at least once you've got your streak up, you can know how much gold you can get, or aim to get...

If you stick to the Role Challenges, do 9 of them, that's 4.5 plus 1.5 for completing 9 of them so 6 Gold Bars in total on a 28 day streak, usually if you don't like PVP, you can most likely some days get 4 or 5 of the General Challenges, which will net you another 2.5 Gold, some days we get lucky and don't have PVP challenges, which is when most players will get 11 gold bars if they complete all challenges required, and for days when you don't feel like playing, just do one easy challenge for 30 seconds to a minute and you can quit the game for the day.. It's what I do when I cannot be bothered to deal with the bugs as of late, I also leave the Bounty Hunter Role Challenges till last, since they a little harder to complete since they fixed them so you can no longer Hogtie, Bola etc the target over and over and get the daily, now it has to be different targets which is a pain.

So Daily Challenges are the best way to make gold, some days you could earn 5 Gold Bars just doing the easy ones that take no longer than 30 seconds to complete, it's rare but it's the quickest and easiest way.

As sometimes the Bounty Missions, even if you get it in the right spot and time, the gold pay out isn't that great... I once got 0.13 gold for turning in a 6 person bounty target in the sweet spot, I would have earnt the same just doing a single bounty target and could have probably done two or three more in the time it took to get all bounties tied up and everything... luckily they weren't far from the bounty board, otherwise I would have been even more pissed off for just getting 0.13 gold for bringing in six targets at once.

Races and showdowns pay decently well if you place in the top spots, 0.32 for 1st, 0.24 fro 2nd, I forget if 3rd gets 0.24 or not.

There's usually a bunch of AFK gold farmers in races so it's often easy to get top 3, but the downside is you'll have to wait out the timer more often than not, which is not time efficient at all.

Dailies are the best and easiest way, no way around it.

There is no way to "rush."

I'd recommend just doing as many dailies a day, as you can stand. That is the best way to do it.

Then simply don't lose "your streak." So make sure to log in at least every day, doing at least one daily.

It isn't really that hard to do. I've been up to a 95 day streak, or so, a couple of times (then lost it.. lol.) I'm up to 28 days again

now.

It adds up VERY fast, plus you start at .2 (or something) with dailies, which is better than most other things for less time spent.

.5 comes soon enough.

I was in a hurry, doing the "gold bars for $4" back when they had that, when frontier pursuits first came out. For some reason, I was

ignorant of the gold payout and how it goes up with dailies; So I really even regret having paid that $4 real money, for gold, when it

is actually so insanely easy to make more than you'll ever need in this game.

AFTER buying nearly everything, then getting the naturalist and buying all of it/buying level 80 of the new wheeler rawson as well, I still have

around 300 plus gold (was up to 405 or so, when Naturalist dropped ;) ) Oh, plus over $30,000 in game money still.

For me (assuming I can get online without the game disconnecting/crashing... :turn:), I do a mix of the following:

- Dailes, as much as I can fit in per day. Not just doing them for the gold per daily, but also building up that multiplier bonus by keeping a streak going.

- Bounties, but I'm not really bothered about doing the 'wait until the last minute' thing. Focus on doing the ones that tick off the Bounty Hunter dailies first, and kill two birds with one stone.

- Awards - particularly things that can be reset over and over. If you've got something like "herbs sold to a doctor" that you can do without grinding out out for hours, take the time to do that for some extra gold.

Beyond that, if you can wait on starting the new role, and you're also aiming to do the Outlaw Pass, I'd buy the pass first* - not only do you make back all the gold you spend on the pass by the time you complete it (and by about halfway, you'll have enough gold back to start the role), but the role XP boosts mean that you can get through club ranks faster by doing stuff like collector sets.

Conversely, buying the role first means it'll take longer to make back enough gold to by the pass, and you'll be making less progress through club ranks, too. Always, if you've only got enough gold for either the pass or the new role and want to do both* eventually, do the pass first.

*the only exception being if you want stuff like the Gila Monster camp flag for doing stuff in the new role - you need to get that done in the next two weeks, and while you could be able to get enough gold back in that time to do the pass first and then the role, it might be a bit of a pinch to make back 25 gold in that time after buying the pass. I'd say try the gold-earning methods above first, and see how quick your progress is, before deciding one way or the other.

Thanks for your responses, folks. Sadly, no streak at the moment, but building it up steadily on both platforms. Also, almost out of awards that can be easily farmed for 0.4 spam, too, especially on the PS4 account that exists since beta. As Commander S correctly guessed, I'm rushing to make it in time before 24th August for the rewards. So far, it *does* seem possible, especially on my PC account, since I managed to get some treasure maps yesterday and bumped up my gold, also level 15 of the OP with the 5 gold bars is also very helpful. Gonna use some of the good advice posted in this thread and hope I can get the PS4 account up in time too.

Ranking the pass up should be no problem at all, depending on how much time you have to put into it.

I had Pass 2 done in 8 days, starting at around rank 30, ending in the 80s.

For Pass 3 intended to go slow with it, but still finished it in 6 days, as it was only 80 ranks compared to 100 for Pass 2.

It would have taken longer if I hadn't been trying to get the Naturalist maxed, some of that Xp spills over.

I had really hoped it was going to be 120 ranks at least, we had 3 months to get Pass 2 done, that's plenty even for those with a limited amount of time per day.

Even with barely being able to play since the Naturalist update, I've still manage to get up to Pass rank 20 - and I chalk most of that up to collectibles, dailies, and collectibles dailies. :p

You get a decent amount of XP from collector maps, and particularly if you prioritise anything that counts towards a daily objective ("find 3 collectibles with a shovel", "find 3 bird eggs", etc.) - and same for selling to Madam Nazar. I either top up on new collector maps when I've used up my last one (because using up a map always gives you her location on the map afterwards), or if I need a specific one for dailies I'll go and buy any I don't have then instead.

My advice on when to sell is to always hang on to 2 of every collectible - sell your third/fourth/fifth if you have them, because that's money and XP you're sitting on, and you're probably not going to get enough of everything to need 3+ full sets of anything at any given time. Keeping 2 of everything in you bag means you can sell a weekly set without making a dent in a regular set, or use up a spare antique alcohol bottle for a "drink antique alcohol" daily challenge and still have one of the same left over. So yeah, sell your excess stuff whenever you top up on maps, and that's steady money and XP (and therefore pass XP, which means getting those 5 gold bar rewards sooner!).

There's technically 100 ranks with this update - just not in the Outlaw Pass. There's also a second, smaller pass coming in October, and that's a further 20 ranks, IIRC.

I’ve already completed the Outlaw Pass and I barely did anything different than I usually do, which is spend an hour or maybe two doing what’s required for Daily Challenges, but I think most of it came by levelling up the Naturalist Role and sedating and collecting and selling samples and and only collecting what was required on Daily Challenges as that gives a good amount of XP for each completed too.

I had sold all my collectibles before the update so had no to sell, so didn’t rank up by quickly selling those,.

I put it on the back burner and didn’t even think about the Outlaw Pass when playing the game and go to Rank 80 with just doing the above without paying attention.

Precisely what I do too, though I do keep a minimum of 3 of all valuables (and not just the Collector "collectibles", but the less valuable items like watches, etc.). For coins, my minimum is 4.

One big benefit is that, over time, you'll be pleasantly surprised at what you're suddenly rewarded with (when various sets are completed). Plus, you won't have to go looking for a Gold Watch for some requirement--you'll have an extra ready to go.

About two days ago, I had three sets complete all at once and ready to cash in at the post office. Made some good cash and XP that way.

I've found that gold teeth and tarot cards are the ones you need to keep an eye on though--they tend to accumulate faster than others, so I sell them if they get too high (around 7 or so).

Dailies daily and play for months. That is how i have about 1100 gold.
Get to .5 gold and 8 dailies a day will yield 28 gold per week. 112 gold every 28 days.

There is a paywall as bounty hunter moonshine, trader, collector, and naturalist are needed to unlock associated dailies.
Start with one and then add more when you can or want to.
Collector then trader are good starting roles and provide easy dailies.

Showdowns if you can stand them are the best way to earn gold...no riding to and fro...

Spoiler

just mouth breath heavily and pretend an autoaim game with buff accuracy card is competitive...tonics dont cost gold so even if you are losing $ you are earning gold which can buy you that sweet halloween mask or all white outfit for when you want to mouth breath heavily in free mode

,  if you are on the winning team you get a bit more.  I personally find elimination mode are the best ones, if you die in certain types, you can do something else without getting lagged out and the game loads you in automatically.

Just do what all the losers are currently doing and AFK farm in Hardcore mode, everyone's doing it and R* doesn't seem to give a sh*t either so go for it and get your free gold. So stupid. 🙄

I dont even know how they still do it.

The game kicks you for being AFK. It kicks you for walking in a straight line... it even kicks you for walking around in circles with your weapon aimed. Rubber band tricks have officially been countered... So I dont know how the heck they do this for hours on end without being kicked. They would have to be literally siting there tapping random controller buttons every 5-10 minutes...

I honestly have no clue either but one thing I notice all the time is they all move differently and have their own little loop. Some just crouch, shoot, crouch, others will move in a circle and then stop, back in a circle again, etc. All while never leaving spawn. It's just ridiculous.

Look at this hardcore mode game I just 'played'. BOTH TEAMS were doing this, everyone except me and one other guy who killed me once and then left once he realized what was going on.

So dumb. I have yet to have one Hardcore match where more than half the team was not AFK.

I submitted a ticket under a bug report but I doubt anything will happen.

They probably do.

Some people do stuff like that while watching netflix/whatever. They just maybe glance over to the other monitor/TV

sometimes, if even that, moving the controller.

Shame, but people do the same thing in battlegrounds/whatever in World of Warcraft (AFK, for credit.) In that, it is still

worth it to them even though you might get booted from the match if enough people report as AFK.

It is weird they get gold in RDO, for that. You would think an easy fix would be you having to attack someone in X amount of time,

or you see a counter that starts to count down to being kicked. People have said they should do something like that in WOW battlegrounds, for years,

but they still don't. It would be very easy to have activities which show you are live, without making it so it bothered the players who really were

playing in earnest.

Stranger Missions and Bounties, wait 12 minutes and then turn in.

That's about it besides dailies. Let me see if I can find a guide somewhere.

As others have noted, waiting for the timer to almost run out before completing missions isn't much fun. It's also not terribly efficient. The gold payout is based on total mission time, so the mission timer doesn't really help.

I find the medium difficulty bounty missions to be the most flexible. They offer plenty of time to stretch out the clock, and the targets tend to be fairly isolated so there is less risk of other players interacting with your mission and throwing up a completion timer before you arrive on location.

Start a stopwatch when the mission objectives are first displayed. Try to finish just after 9 (.24 gold) or 12 (.32) minutes; 15 (.36) if it's a short wait.

Instead of waiting at the end I prefer to burn about 5 minutes gathering collector items along the route to the destination. 4 or 5 collectibles is just about right, then the mission can be completed normally without too much clock watching other than, just wait 1 more minute for the extra gold at 12 instead of 9.

Use the online collector maps to mark Important items needed to complete collector sets. Use that information to help choose which bounty board to try next.

With over 70K and 1200 gold, legit, i do not need to do afk tricks.
However i am curious to what afk can pay. Like gold and money per hour.
My opinion is neutral on doing afk, i just want to know how lucrative it may be.

If Rockstar had created a wonderful PVP system, which would be abused by AFKlers, I would be Mad about Them destroying Others PVP fun.

But since its Just a Joke (No privates/ No choose of which Mode you wanna Play) I cant blame These AFKlers....

The best Gold per hour with bounty hunting is 12 minutes per bounty. This is from when you pick up the bounty from the board to when you drop it off. The math doesn't lie.

Over 300 bounties ran and logged.

Did this for XP as well.

Rockstar doesn't want us to grind, just play the game casually. 10-12 minutes for best pay on bounties.

3-4 minutes to get to the bounty,

5-6 minutes to capture them,

2-3 minutes to drop them off.
