Exactly the same problem, after the update the game "increases" from 1Gb to 4GB my vram, eating up all the Ram, making it impossible to play.

I don't know what to change so that it detects my graphics card as it did yesterday.

  • Fixed an issue that resulted in players not correctly receiving the ‘Elite Challenge’ Bonus for Casino Heists

That is not the case. This is only for PC and is still unfixed. Elite challenge bonus is not rewarded at all.

I wrote to technical support, they gave me a standard answer (update drivers) which naturally did not work. Write to support, describe what also shows 4 gigabytes, I hope there will be enough reports and rockstar will fix it

They only responded with a default message, asking me to send them game files (.log), which I had already done in the initial message.

I'll send them again.🤔

I sent them all the necessary log files. Hopefully rockstar will release a patch. Because this is not an isolated case.

For many people including me, the game stopped working after the last patch 1.51. The game shows 4GB VRAM instead of 1GB as it should be. This problem is with me, my friends and people on the forum. Rockstar support is answered by a bot with basic solutions like updating drivers that do not help. After sending the necessary logs, support stops responding to people. The game starts to consume RAM instead of video memory, causing the game to crash after 30 sec or run like 5-10fps. I have already described this problem in the desired topic, but I think this will not help much.

So guys reports to R* Support
To solve it in the shortest possible time.
Many people including me have been waiting for this update for 8 months and cannot play.

Game have leaking memory, consumes all available memory: VRAM, RAM, swap file.

People on social media are massively complaining about this problem.

PS. Player who have 1gb graphics card and 8gb ram, game shows 4gb vram in settings. And 1gb graphics card and 16gb ram game shows 8gb vram in settings.
PS. Players with mid-high end systems have a freezes (6-8gb vram + 16-24gb ram)

I have the transcript from the ticket if anyone wants to read it. At the end I gave up, they just give default, robot-like macro answers.

Spoiler
Game crash after seconds of gameplay if I'm driving (If I'm standing still while doing nothing, the game doesn't crashes). Graphics settings now shows 4gb of Vram, but i have 1 gb only, I think that's the issue, because it tries to allocate more memory while driving, but the system actually doesn't have that memory. This all started after today's update. Thank you for your time.

One moment while we connect you.

Hello, Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support. My name is Samira, Please give me a moment to read through your issue and look up your account information; I’ll be right back with you.

I understand your concern that you are facing issues with game crash in GTA Online. Is that correct?
Hi Samira, that is correct

Thank you for confirming, I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you in this regard.
Thank you Samira. I've uploaded the logs that support requested. As you can see in my system specs, I have only 1Gb of vRam on my graphics card, but the game now shows 4Gb. When I'm driving in the map is when the game crashes, and I think is related to that fake 4Gb that the game is showing, because I don't have that amount of memory.

Alright, kindly allow me a moment please while I check on system files.
Sure thing

Can you try updating your video cards driver? As I can see it was updated a long back.
I've already done that. That driver version is the one that works best at this moment

But the crash occurs with all AMD driver versions, including the last one

I've changed it almost five times today

Okay but I was unable to check for updated video cards driver in the provided system files.
I apologize if I'm being not great with my english, I'm a little bit rusty

No it' good.
win10-radeon-software-adrenalin-2020-edition-20.4.2-may25

that's the last one that AMD recommends, that was my previous driver (had that one a few hours ago)

win10-radeon-software-adrenalin-2020-edition-19.12.2-dec12 Is the one that I'm currently using.

Okay can you try the following steps and try launching the game again. - Download and run the AMD Cleanup Utility https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601 - Launch GTAV
It says that I'll need to reboot in safe mode

So this chat will be lost

This chat will be active for 2 hours, you can re-initiate the chat once you complete this.
Ok, I will follow the steps.

The thing is, that the game was working well until yesterday. Now today when the updated DLC arrived I noticed that the game detected a fake 4Gb of Vram and crashes while moving

I'll reboot now.

Okay
I've cleaned up with AMD's utility, installed the latest drivers. Same thing happened.

Hello, thank you for contacting Rockstar Support. My name is Sadie. Due to inactivity on the chat your chat was re-queued. I'll be assisting you further.
Hi Sadie

Is it okay, if i take few minutes to go through the chat?
Sure thing, go ahead.

Thank you.

Thank you for your patience.

Sorry to keep you wait, can i take few more minutes please?
Take all the time you need Sadie

I have new logs after the process I made, if you need them

I'll let you know, if i need them, Thank you.

Thank you for your patience.

I have few steps to fix this, can i proceed?
Sure!

Thank you.

Disabling Unnecessary Programs Close the game and any launcher you may be using Press Ctrl + Shift + ESC to open the Task Manager Select the Process tab under Task Manager Under the Apps section of the Process Tab

Select each program that is not the Task Manager Press ALT + E to close the application Close the Task Manager Relaunch the game you were trying to play.
Already done that, many times

Can you try the below one.

Sign into your computer using an account with Administrator privileges Press the Windows key to bring up the Start Menu In the Search box on the Taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration

On the Services tab under System Configuration Select the Hide all Microsoft services check box Disable all services except the Rockstar Games Library Service
Done, I've already performed a clean boot in Windows

Thank you for the information.
My problem is not RAM related, since I do not use windows for nothing else than GTA V. So I do not have any software besides Discord, spotify and Google Chrome

Go to My Documents > Rockstar Games > Grand Theft Auto V folder Make the back up of profiles folder Deleted the Grand Theft Auto V from My Documents > Rockstar Games Run the game now and do not enable cloud save when collobrated
Will do

Take your time.
It crashed

Image attachment

Started with very low resolution, then I went to online and after a while loading, crashed.

I am sorry to hear that

Can you try the below troubleshooting steps: 1. Launch the game and click on settings 2. Go to Graphics and change "Ignore Suggested Limits" to ON 3. An alert message "Using more than your allotted graphics card memory can result in serious performance drops and stability issues. Proceed with caution." will pop up, Click on OK.
Ok, doing it now

Sure please
done and chrashed again

To resolve this problem and in order to ensure you have the most up to date and non-altered version of Grand Theft Auto V you will need to do a clean install of the game. Are you fine doing the clean installation of the game?
Oh

That will take a lot of time

Like 4 hours or so

I can help you with the steps if you can try that and see if this fixes the error you are receiving in this regard.
I've verified the game, so I havent reinstalled it yet

I can reinstall it, sure. But if it keeps crashing what will I do?

You can reach out to us with this ticket reference so that the present agent can directly help you with further steps rather than repeating it.
I really think that this is an DLC-related issue, since I've found a huge number of mentions of this problem in the last hour on social networks.

I appreciate your help

Thank you for being so cooperative and patience in this regard.
Thank you for your time Sadie.

You are welcome, and here are the steps for clean installation of the game

To cleanly install the game, please follow these steps: Use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Grand Theft Auto V. Go to the location you installed Grand Theft Auto V. (Default: C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V\ ) Delete any additional files/folders in this location. Additional Files/Content: The following locations store game saves, settings and recorded videos created via the Rockstar Video Editor. Please note that if these are not backed up, you’ll be unable to recover them once deleted. Delete all the files/folders in this location C:\Users\\\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V Delete all the files/folders in this location: C:\Users\\\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA V After following the above steps, perform a fresh installation of the game.
Ok Sadie thanks a lot

Have a nice day

It was my pleasure assisting you today. Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support. Have a great day! Stay safe!

This problem was corrected on September 9, 2020.

IF you have VRAM/RAM issue with stutter/lag, read this post :

Rockstar Games working to fix issues.

  • TDLR : Game use shared memory and not gpu dedicated memory causing excessive ram usage and stutter.
  • The game also fail to load textures because GTA 5 consumes all available memory: VRAM, RAM, swap file. I don't have this problem but I noticed some people complain about this.

Background and my problem (You can skip this part) :

Spoiler

Hi,

Sorry if my English is not perfect.

I ran the game between 45fps and 55fps at 1080p before the update, now it's more like 40fps when I don't move and 5fps when I move.

move = walking/driving fast.

My computer is 12 years old (I know), built it for GTA IV, and I bought GTA V in 2014 (day one, 7 disks oof). I have now, 754 hours without issue with my setup. My experience so far was nice. Not great, not terrible.

I have 4gb Ram and 1gb VRAM, game show more VRAM (1791mb) after the 11/08/2020 update. (08/11/2020 in USA)

Everything is up to date, I use Rockstar Game Launcher and the settings below

GTA V showing incorrect VRAM (1791mb)

Game was fine with this settings.xml before the update.

My setup :

Spoiler

  • Windows 7 64bits SP1 (Ultimate)
  • AMD Athlon II X3 445 CPU at 3.10GHz
  • 4 Go RAM (2x2Go, I don't remember but I think 1333MHz, Corsair)
  • ATI Radeon HD 5700 1gb VRAM (Sapphire)
  • 80Gb HDD for my OS
  • 1Tb HDD for everything else.

I use 1080p 60Hz. This computer is old af but trust me GTA V was fine BEFORE the update.

Here's what I found:

  • My GPU has 1gb VRAM DDR5
  • 1791mb is the amount of shared memory I have

First I thought my HDD died, but I rejected this possibility my game load nicely, 1 min into Story Mode then 3-5 min into Online.

I thought my RAM died, I looked at my performance tab (task manager) and I saw 100% RAM and HDD Usage.
Double checked my game and I saw 1791mb VRAM, very weird.
Checked the GPU properties and 1791mb is my shared memory,

Problem identified.

screenshot-gpu.png

If people here with the same VRAM problem can confirm/verify  the game use their shared memory instead of their VRAM it would be nice.

To prove the theory that it's not hardware (in my case):

GTA IV shows the correct amount of VRAM (1024mb)

Capture4.png

What are the consequences ?

  • Shared memory use RAM (RAM is fast but not enough)
  • If your RAM is full, your computer is swapping to disk. (average HDD speed is between 80-160mb/s)

This combo = Stutter Fest, and maybe crash.

To resume, This issue is not hardware, the problem is rockstar fault, we have really different setup and our game worked well BEFORE the update. After the update we have the same symptom: lag and stutter, high RAM/HDD usage and misleading vram amount.

UPDATE :

I have now confirmation that NVIDIA is not immune.

Dont expect Rockstar to communicate about problems, I check SteamDB often, this build (build ID '5376572') was uploaded 7 days ago, and released to everyone the 11th of August 2020 at 11:00AM here in France. If they test something I'll let you know guys.

Source : Steam Database

UPDATE :

Rockstar Game Launcher was updated today (13/08/2020) I tested the game again, nothing change.

UPDATE :

Memory leaks confirmed.

My advice for everyone with this issue :

Check your GPU properties (or use the method below) and see if shared memory is the value GTA V shows.

Waiting the new update is the best we can do.

I don't know how to fix this, Its not my job. I just share the problem.

Rockstar support approach is trying to solve the problem before knowing what the problem is, tell them you found the problem (If yours is similar to mine).

As far as I know this affects Rockstar Game version (the cleanest possible version of the game) and Epic Game version. If someone use Steam, tell us. Found someone on Steam with this issue.

Sorry everyone this is very long but I tried to give as much information as I can.

EDIT level_666 and I both use AMD GPU but we have people here with the same problem using NVIDIA drivers.

EDIT : I heard rumors about 64 players servers, maybe they try something with memory.

EDIT : Rockstar changed something inside game files, if it is not intentional we may have a fix soon, previous game version was fine.

Quick and easy guide to help you check your shared memory :

I used the method mentioned above but this one seems more accessible

This is not a fix. Just to visualise the problem, nothing more.

  1. Launch GTA 5
  2. Load Story Mode
  3. Go to settings then graphics, you should notice the memory available is not correct. Keep this number in mind.
  4. Close your game
  5. Launch dxdiag.exe
  6. When the process is finished, save it somewhere
  7. Open the file "DxDiag.txt"
  8. Press CTRL+F and search 'Shared Memory'
  9. If this number is the same, it confirm you have this issue.

Hi cartesius,

Try to send a ticket to Rockstar Support. We all know the response but this is the only way.

Can you tell me which GPU and how much VRAM do you have ?

I am currently experiencing the stutters that make the game unplayable. CPU usage is very low. It never happened before, started happening just after the update was released.

FPS is very bad, like 1 fps then after 2 seconds 60 fps then after 1 second 1 fps again. Literally unplayable. And also VRAM amount in Graphics Settings is incorrect, as mentioned before. Created a Rockstar ticket, doubt they can do something about it, the only thing they can do is to release a quick patch.

If i need to guess, it has something to do with Rockstar increasing RAGE limitations.

@level_666 Seeing their response, it's clear that they have no idea what is happening and that the issue needs to be resolved by a hotfix.

I have the exact same problem: AMD driver, 1GB vram, 8GB ram, GTA displays 4085 MB which is the same as "shared memory" on dxdiag. Stuttering/lagging hard when driving and flying in the city, all of this after the update

I have the exact same problem: AMD driver, 1GB vram, gta displays 4085 MB which is the same as "shared memory" on dxdiag. Stuttering/lagging hard when driving and flying, all of this after the update

That's nice !
Not for us but it's nice to have people confirmation.
We need more people, Rockstar need to know.

Here is mine experience with Rockstar Support

bwVVRlL.png

Be sure to tell them that you tried everything, since they have a list of potential fixes and they're going by that list over and over again. I hope they inform guys at the Dev Studio about this,

If someone is able to convince Rockstar Support, they need to see this forum asap, we know the problem, it seems they don't know or maybe there's a lack of communication between Support and Dev team.

Ok lol, always the same generic answer. I know they have lot of request every day for minor things but here we have a major issue. I really hope they check this forum and find a solution about the problem WE found. I mean if this is the problem, the research work is already done. Reinstalling won't do anything because the problem is inside game files. Probably the exe file

Hi,

Sorry if my English is not perfect.

I ran the game between 45fps and 55fps at 1080p before the update, now it's more like 40fps when I don't move and 5fps when I move.

move = walking/driving fast.

Game was fine with this settings.xml before the update.

My setup :

  Reveal hidden contents

I saw what happened with RDO and I'm not surprised we have game breaking update, I hope they fix that quickly.

There's still something I don't understand, why some people with completely different setup have a memory leak and some people are fine.

Im sorry Samira and Sadie but sometimes the problem is not the user.
Rockstar support should report bugs to devs.

I have irrefutable proof the problem is not me, my drivers or my computer, shame on me if it's not rockstar fault.

My advice for everyone with this issue :

Check your GPU properties and and see if shared memory is the value GTA V shows.

Take screenshots(GTA V and GPU properties)
Send this to Rockstar Support and explain.

Telling your game stutter or lag won't do anything.

I don't know how to fix this, Its not my job. I just share the problem.

Rockstar support approach is trying to solve the problem before knowing what the problem is, tell them you found the problem (If yours is similar to mine).

Sorry everyone this is very long but I tried to give as much information as I can.

EDIT level_666 and I both use AMD GPU, someone can confirm if it happens on NVIDIA too ? If not we may have something here.

EDIT : I heard rumors about 64 players servers, maybe they try something with memory.

Yes, I can confirm that it happen on NVIDIA too. I hope this problem is solved soon.

I have NVIDIA and it happens with it too. I will try to run it with my Intel HD Graphics and see if it's the same.
