Now THAT's a newswire update, not like the complete load of cock we got for the last 6 months +. Good stuff IMHO.

*looks at Prime bonusses*

Some good new clothing, well I like a few of the new items anyway.

Still not spawned a LA in free roam since release day, so I doubt I'll be getting those rewards, ah well.

I had one - the Ozula.

Wasn't even looking it for; the damn thing charged me.

I'm not against Legendary Animals being free roam spawns, I think it's a nice idea and it fleshes the world out a tad, but, I still think each LA should have its own mission, the missions have a cool down already and at 1 or 2 LA's per week it would still take a while for anyone wanting all the garment sets to get them all.

I've done a little lobby hopping today and I haven't seen less than 5 other players in and around Lagras, the most was 9 other players.

There's only 2 real outcomes in that situation, either the Gator won't spawn at all because of the activity in the area, or, if it does, Lagras will look like a Vietnam movie and no one will get out with the pelt.

I've seen a few people saying that they are getting them to spawn now, but I've not seen one yet.

I found the Zizi Beaver today. My first legendary in free roam, although I've really not been looking that hard.

For anyone wondering:

Sun Gator: Near the L in Lagras, Daytime

Teca Gator: South Islands east of Shady Belle, Night w/ Storm/Rain

Now, if Legendary sh*t actually SPAWNS that would be great.

Level 20 Naturalist, I've played for hours today intentionally trying to find some legendary animals in free roam.

Nothing.

They're not fixed.

Not surprising whatsoever. Only Rockstar would lock items behind a mechanic that doesn't work proper. Spawns aren't going to get fixed without an actual patch.

QA? Who needs it amirite?

Looks like we'll be able to enjoy legendary animals in 6-8 months when the next dlc eventually drops...

I mean, somethings gotta be funky, since Level 15 is supposed to give you the Animal Attraction perk, that increases the Legendary odds, and yet a lot of people (like myself) don't have that Skill Page. Coincidence? Nah.

To add as well, I've taken note of times and weather these animals spawn in into account as well.

On the topic of those two things, relying on time of day, RNG weather and then RNG spawns for these things to spawn, it's very easy (without any unintended bugs) for spawn rates for these animals to become ridiculously low - putting stuff behind RNG, then putting that RNG behind RNG, then putting those two gates of RNG behind a specific time gate (time of day), is not enjoyable. Knowing I need a certain weather to, at best, increase the already minuscule odds of them spawning or at worst to make them spawn full stop is not enjoyable.

They need to increase the spawn rates massively and if they are really limited to certain times of day and weather, make spawns less reliant on those two things as well. I like the idea of having to hunt the legendary panther at night, I don't like the idea of having to pray to the gods that it's going to rain during the hours it spawns in otherwise I have to wait another half an hour to get another chance at waiting for it to rain or become misty/foggy, which I've wasted 3 or 4 hours doing today.

It works in single player because you have the wilderness camp that you can put down and you can sleep until you get the weather you want but it does not work in online.

On top of everything they lock special colour variants of the new items behind getting these new gators to spawn. (Poncho, O'Quinn Hat and Helsby Gloves)

I think I'm just going to go back to collecting and moonshining + general adventuring and if I come across a LA, then great but they don't seem to be working for me and I've spent hours today trying.

Also add to the fact you got idiot modders on PC changing the time of day and weather at will. f*ck that. This is why we need solo lobbies among other things.

They fixed the animal spawns but not the free mode events spawn. In a private I don't have problems to find events or legendary animals. I think I got 3 every 48 real minutes.

So forget to find legendary animals on populated lobbys.

Can someone clarify something for me? Do the Teca and Sun have to be killed and turned in by next week for the special colorways, or is it just period?

Love the drip feed items this week! Definitely one of the best so far and looks like rockstar is listening to feedback.

Yea... Between PC issues, strong speculation of session wide cooldown timers on legendary animals and griefing when trying to hunt or collect samples, no update for RDO has strengthened the demand for private lobbies more than the Naturalist update.

Trader was so-so but you could argue it suffered greatly from sh*t animal spawns, Collector it doesn't matter, BH is instanced so it doesn't matter either and Moonshiner was just broken full stop, but Naturalist? Other players can intentionally very easily negatively impact your experience through griefing or hacking, but worse still, other players can negatively impact your experience by just existing if the speculation around session wide cooldowns is true.

Going back to the interview with Rob Nelson in 2019:

"This overarching philosophy is why Rockstar is so apprehensive to introduce elements like a passive mode that walls off players from each other or free-aim servers that split the player base. "It would be easier for us to do that then what we're trying to do here, which is allow people to still feel like they are existing in the world that has an element of Wild Westiness to it and not completely make it two experiences," Nelson says. "If we can't get the balancing right then we can always do that, but what we're trying to do is allow people to, however they want to play the game, interact with the world and still feel like they're all part of the same world together. Where we think it works best and when it's the most fun is if you are actually able to roleplay in this world to a certain degree.""

Doing laps of Lemoyne and the Bayou to find one legendary animal in a region with half a dozen but not seeing one because someone on the other side of the map got the spawn and/or because all the RNG didn't line up isn't roleplay and it isn't fun.

So uh... Has anyone found the Gators yet? Also with these drip fed legendary animals, are they permanent?

This is true, and they (R*) are idiots to think that this idea and way of going about the game is doing them or us any favors. I cannot roleplay in this game like I can in Story mode, every dot on that map that shows up is a stress inducer and forces me from what I was doing, into worrying just what that player is planning.

To have the legendaries out in the open and available to whatever player that comes along, whether they are actively hunting the thing or not is just plain stupid. What if a player is just riding through? Will they inadvertently ruin the spawning chances for that animal for the person who is actually looking for it?

And are we supposed to have a battle royale over the darn thing if a dozen of us happen to come across it at the same time? What type of game are we supposed to be playing here? I personally don't like the idea of having to "armor up" just in case I find one of them and have to fight my way to get it, that's just plain stupid.

But new clothes are always welcome, so there is that! 😁

I'm liking the new winter coat, will probably buy one eventually when I wanna swap out my bear coat from the Trapper. The poncho is good too but doesn't sit very well on my characters body as well as the others, but more proper ponchos with cloth physics are good.

ALifeOfMisery

The only thing preventing me from b*tching too much about the ridiculous  Legendary Animal free roam spawns is the silver lining that I think all of the garment sets look, to put it mildly, f*cking awful.

Almost anything would have been preferable to having the exact same coat with each LA's head as the "hood".

The Trapper clothing from SP being recycled would have been fine. Each LA making different items of clothing (unique to Online) so we could have made full outfits from Gus would have been great. But what we have now, nah, even if the spawns were better I'd still only put any real time into hunting a LA if there was a bonus attached that week that I was interested in.

Speaking of the spawns, I've got to agree with everything @Jason has said. If they are working as intended, it's got R*s lack of foresight written all over it. It's just not fun and it has all the hallmarks of something that is designed to be a huge time sink.
