Seeing as GTA6 might never actually come do you think Rockstar will do a graphic overhail for GTA online for PS5?

Recommended Posts

At this point it is very hard to believe GTA6 will come we are in the realm of League of Legends here there will never be another but the original shall be updated.

My issue is Riot has overhauled the graphics in LoL, but Rockstar has not with GTAV. You can really see how poor it looks in comparison to Red Dead 2 Online. You can't even get long hair customization in GTA online and the graphics looks like a PS3 game that was ported to PS4.

Seeing that PS5 is going to have such awesome hardware and GTA6 is unlikely to come even within the next 10 years we could be looking at 20 years of GTA Online.

What do you think Rockstar will do about the overall graphics of GTA Online? could they be planning a huge overhaul?

Or it's just gonna be the same game they gonna port to PS5? and if so how can they justify not updating the graphics for PS5?

Here is the other thing that hasn't been considered, GTA6 can't have an Online mode because we are already getting a Stand Alone GTA online so even if GTA6 was to release it would just be a single player game and who wants that in this day and age?

So that leaves us the question can we really be looking at a PS3 Gen GTA graphics for the next 20 years?

Okay, so to address this point-by-point:

1. GTA VI is in development, according to people with inside access, so you can rule out "what if there's no new GTA?" - it'll just take a while, because R* keeps aiming to beat what they did with each previous release, and that means each game takes more and more time to make:

Spoiler

2. Current-gen GTAO does look like a last-gen game with a 1080p console port, because ...that's exactly what it is. And the reason why GTA V doesn't have hair physics, while RDR2 does, is because R* paid to use a third-party hair physics suite (Ornatrix) for RDR2 - I imagine they'll incorporate similar for GTA VI.

3. Huge overhaul? Nope. At best, they'll bring it to a level comparable with what PC can do, so 4K resolution and 60 fps, instead of the current console 1080p and 30 fps. Maybe a high-res texture pack on top of that (would be nice, considering the state of some textures!), and maybe a similar upgrade to what we already got going from last-gen to current-gen - higher traffic/pedestrian density, maybe more high-fidelity effects, possibly even reworking the lighting system. One rumour I've seen suggests even double the player count per session (64 instead of 32), but there's nothing confirming that at present.

But it'll still be a prettier version of the exact same PS3/360-era game underneath - don't expect anything like them rebuilding it to be on a par with RDR2 (with hair/clothing physics, new mechanics, etc.), because at that point, they're basically remaking the game from scratch, and ...why would they do go to that effort just to make GTA V feel a bit more modern, when they're already making a full-on new GTA VI that'll be genuinely cutting-edge - ?

4. Same as above: it'll be the same game, but with advancements comparable to the PC version. So it won't be a drastic change, but it'll still be noticeably crisper and cleaner than the current version - same as how the current version does look better than the last-gen version.

5. This is the one that frustrates me: "stand-alone version" does not mean "GTAO will be developed as a separate game from GTA single-player going forward". They said "there will also be a new standalone version of GTA Online coming in the second half of 2021", after talking about the PS5 next-gen version of GTA V - i.e., you can buy the full game (GTA V plus Online, same as the current-gen and last-gen version), but you can now just get GTAO as a separate download, rather than having to pay more, and download the entirety of single-player. R* likely knows that some players will have already bought the game twice, so asking them to buy the whole thing again at full release price is going to come across like taking the piss - same reason why they're doing a three-month free upgrade for PS+ users.

But again, that doesn't mean the same thing as "GTAO is now a separate game from all future single-player GTA games, and GTA VI won't get a brand-new online, because they'll be adding stuff to the same thing that's been chugging away since 2013" - not when a decent chunk of GTA V sales were from people who only bought it for GTAO (even back at launch in 2013). If they're still supporting the current version of GTAO, and GTA VI doesn't come with an online mode, then that chunk of potential buyers ain't going to buy GTA VI - and there's no way in hell R* isn't aiming to achieve similar sales targets with GTA VI.

If anything, I reckon they'll kill off current GTAO ahead of GTA VI launching (and announcing the all-new take on GTAO, using all the added features of GTA VI), so that players will get frustrated with the lack of new content with GTAO, and then be hungry for something new and thus more keen to buy GTA VI.

It already been announced an 'enhanced' version of gta is coming out. Most likely it's for all platforms not just one. (milk a 7 year old game for all its worth).

Basically, @Commander S nailed it, but there is another possibility with the overhaul: a bit different physics. More detailed car deformations and advanced ragdoll stuff. A lot of this is possible on PC with a very low effort, even car panels penetrable by bullets from minigun. Police could get an overhaul too with more units being dispatched.

A lot of low-key/ low-effort additions could be done to the game and to imagine the nature of that just look in the direction of Natural vision or GTA Redux.

Oh, and on the matter of GTA 6 is not coming out, nonsense. Bollocks. It will release, just some old timers may actually die before this thing hits the gold. Me included.

This is the best quality post I have ever seen on the internet thanks

I seriously hope we get the kind of quality character creation like Red Dead 2 Online has, I am still blown away at the amazing characters especially females you can get away with in RDRO along with body types, hair styles its just soooo much better than GTAO

I could imagine how sick GTA6 Online gonna be. I hope it has a budget of like $1 Billion USD I am almost entirely sure Rockstar can easily invest $1 Billion for GTA6

I rather they release the game looking at least as good as PS4 but with Singleplayer props and details with animals and physics

I expect that GTA VI's version of Online will probably build on RDO's character creator, yeah - so no heritage system (just straightforward preset faces), hair physics (because again, R* uses Ornatrix for that, now), clothing physics and more layering options, different body types, etc.

Wouldn't be surprised if they take a few cues from Cyberpunk 2077 when they see what that game does with character creation, too - not the cybernetic stuff, obviously, but some of the cool stuff with how face textures adjust to fit whatever shape features you select, that sort of thing.

If nothing else, adding animals back in from single-player wouldn't be too demanding for PS5/XSX - I reckon that's a more reasonable thing to add (without causing peformance/stability issues) than bumping the player count to 64, personally.

The lighting on vehicles and environments are pretty nice in the pc version (which I assume is what the next next gen is going to look like) but the lighting on people during cutscenes... they are uncanny to say the least. Even the cutscenes in the latest casino heist. They look flat. They look like those previs shot for 3dCG animations before they render the lightings. Hope things do get better in the enhanced edition...

The next GTA will eventually come, but GTA Online is still at full force so no need to give it the elbow yet. Specially when its being expanded and enhanced.

Not to be an a-hole but why do you keep making new threads for things that dont really warrant one? Please next question you have consider if it fits in any of these threads before making a new thread:

Thanks! 👍

They should redo all the textures like the natural vision mod but optimise it. PC needs a huge overhaul because it's mostly a cloud simulator, losing connection, 20 minute loading screens after heists, modders and the in famous cloud save fails.

I wish they kept GTA Online going but remaster and possibly use GTA 5s engine for a Vice city remake.

I do have a sneaky suspicion though that creating another port of the game for next gen consoles has a bigger reason that we do not see yet.

What I predict is that Gta 6 will port over the Gta 5 map and expand it to include either San Fierro or Las Venturas. For the old time players among use who played Gta San Andreas would know is that the State of San Andreas has three cities and Gta 5 only has one of those three cities and the surrounding area.

The only reason I am confident in this happening is because they literally just done this in Red Dead Redemption 2 by porting over New Austin down to the tiniest detail from the first game and expanded it to include the new areas we all know. Who is to say they won't do it again? To me its the most logical choice. Hell, with the new tech the next gen consoles offer they may be able to include the entire state with all three cities just like in Gta San Andreas. We just have to wait and see.

Yeah, this is where speculation like this should be going I think.
