twiice33
Is a camp needed in rdr2 online? I have been playing for 3 weeks solo and never used it. I cook food at campfires across the map to restore cores and craft. They seem like a big money/gold bar sink. Is there sth I'm missing?
Krommer
The camp is for the trader role. The trader role makes lots of money, with killing animals, so it is nice. Having the flag up also protects you, from players. You can also get the fast travel wheel for it (the trader camp), which is convenient. I kind of use it as my "hub"/"base" for whatever I'm doing; so yes, it is nice. All the pursuits start out as kind of a money/gold bar sink, but then they pay it back IN SPADES with the dailies. I've had a streak of 95 days of dailies, not completing them all of course, casually ending up with 500 gold bars and $39000 when this naturalist role dropped. The more things you have to do, the easier it is to get credit for the dailies. For example, an easy one for the trader role (which often comes up) is eat the stew 3 times. So you would need the trader camp, to make the stew and then eat it 3 times. After the 21 days of streak, it is .5 gold a pop for things like that, which adds up. Even when I only have 15 minutes to play, I'll get on and check for fast ones like that, eat the stew, change the moonshine shack decor, play with the band for 2 minutes, etc. Edited July 30, 2020 by Krommer kcole4001, twiice33, ALifeOfMisery and 3 others
kcole4001
As Krommer says, the roles are very useful for filling out the dailies to make gold. The camp is a nice base of operations. All of the roles can feel extremely tedious at times, but you don't necessarily have to do any of that stuff if you don't feel like it, just pick what you like to do and make that your game experience. twiice33
Thanks a lot for that detailed answer Kommer, so well written. I'm lvl 15 in Bounty Hunter and 20 in Collector atm. I just noticed as you mentioned they add to daily challenges and I have somehow already made a 10 day streak. You've given me a goal with purpose. fryday
since the empty lobbies, does somebody know, if you can force a camp to spawn at a specific area? i.e. if your character is at the heartland oil fields, the camp would try to spawn at emerald station at first.... is there a formula, did somebody triy this? It's not a requirement, but it can offer some practical things, such as the Weapon Locker (Trader rank 5 needed for that item).

I've never found a way to make it spawn exactly where I want it, but it will most likely stay where it was last because of the small sessions. Mine only moves perhaps twice a week at most. Yesterday my camp actually moved from blackwater area to near Tumbleweed. Sometimes when I log in I'm either in my camp(in the new location) or in an empty area where my camp used to be, or rarely - in someone else's camp whose location has replaced mine. Mine is often at the same spot, but not always. It has moved more often lately, and I've noticed animal spawns are not as abundant now, even with only 2-4 other players around. They are definitely changing things in the background. twiice33

Yes, considering you'll get moved anyway when other players are on, good idea. I liked Big Valley at first in the open plain because game is so plentiful; don't even need the wagon, however some camp sites in that area are over the mountain and I hate hunting animals through thick woods. I decided to stay in the 'Blackwater' area because no matter where my camp moves it's always in the open, although some resupply missions are further (thieves landing and North across the river. 42 minutes ago, kcole4001 said: I've noticed animal spawns are not as abundant now.. A choice of specific camp locations from the remaining open spots when loading in would be so much better than the random assignment we have now. ================================ Animals and random events are most definitely less common than they were, it may have been a gradual reduction going on for a few weeks now, but it's certainly more noticeable now, almost to the point where we were before the small sessions. It kind of feels like they're more interested in limiting player count and interaction than focusing on making the game work well. Smaller sessions do have some benefits: cheaters & griefers have a harder time finding targets, but if the game doesn't work as well, it's kind of defeating the purpose of having fewer players connected. There are still cheaters, I've seen at least two for certain, and OnlyPvPCat posted in a recent video that there's a cheater who follows him around and boots him constantly so he can't play for any length of time. R* still seems to have their priorities backwards. twiice33
fryday
I cant blame developers for getting bombed with cheaters/Hackers.... IT hast been a Problem on PC since I Play online Games in 1998. Its Like cancer, you will never get loose of Them...

It's kind of like free gold so, if you play long enough, you will make back the money you spent on the camp--well, I did anyway, especially because I'm just using the basic camp (but I did buy a quick travel wheel for zipping around the map [which is why I kind of laugh sometimes when some players complain about lack of "immersion." Some parts of the game just do not support it while others do.]). I'd suggest saving up and getting one. especially if you are going to play the game for an extended length of time. And, yeah, that "15 minutes to play" thing makes a lot of sense to me. Even when I don't want to play, I'll just log in and do the really simple dailies and log off. I'm that guy who keeps a satchel full of perfect rat and frog carcasses, along with the other pocket animals (small birds, small chipmunks, etc.). Some players wonder why I bother with the pocket animals--then Cripps will ask you for a certain number of animals in a daily and I can give them to him and log out. I've never completed all the dailies, not once, and I've been playing from the beginning. DentureDynamite
