Still getting flashes to the desktop (Vulkan) or black screen (DX12) since the July 28th update. Enabling or disabling full screen optimization in Windows, setting parallax occlusion to low, and every other suggestion from R* hasn't worked, either. Only thing that changed was the game update on the 28th, but today R* support suggested closing background apps and doing a clean boot. Because that must be it, right? At some point they're gonna have to break down and admit there's a problem for some with the update. Crazy talk, I know. Maybe me sending an ms32info.txt file for the 30th time will help... Running it in DX12 is bearable, at least, so I'm tapping out of the pointless R* support loop. Hopefully they patch it someday.
CG_Unorthodox 3
I too switched to DX12 and now just getting black blinks on the screen while in game, instead of the flashing to the desktop and back. It’s the update. Has to be. Thanks for sharing all the info.
Ghetzi 77
Found this today. Not a solution, just interesting. Someone traced some draw calls which causes the game to briefly lose focus: Spoiler https://steamcommunity.com/app/1174180/discussions/0/2785991651619424886/?ctp=4#c2785991651627175940
Ghetzi 77
Can't test this myself at the moment, but I'm passing it along because a number of people on Steam claim it helped them. Game still needs a patch for this, but maybe some of you will get lucky with a workaround: This worked for me. Type services in search bar and open the app. Find Device Association Services. Right click and select Properties. In Startup dropdown select Disable. Hit apply. then reset. Worth a shot. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1174180/discussions/0/2785991651619424886/?ctp=16
El Dorado 3,718
I tried that yesterday. no luck what works for me: deleting the shader cache everytime before starting the game EDIT - people with this issue are playing with a xbox 360 controller by any chance? https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/8ms5uk/xbox_360_wireless_receiver_for_pc_cutting_off/ worth a reading this XBOX_360_DEVICE_00:01 keeps turning on and off, and that's why the game flashes when that happen now the bad news, it seems you can't turn this off, even if you disable and/or remove the device it comes back after a while Edited August 12, 2020 by El Dorado

I'm trying the latest AMD drivers to see if it'll help but I doubt it.
Spider-Vice 43,562
So it seems to be a Windows service screwing with the game, why am I not surprised... I've seen this happen to me only once while playing in Windowed Borderless mode but never Fullscreen.
Zakfiel 16
I had the alt-tab thing too before update but it would eventually go away randomly, i was using Vulkan + fullscreen windowed. Last patch killed my game, had to switch to Dx12 to not make the game crash or just dissapear from my screen but it was still running without me being able to jump back to it using alt-tab or windows-tab. EDIT: Also before switching to Dx12, i was trying few setting and benchmark test from the game. My keyboard wouldn't be reconize by the game randomly, like i was trying to press "space bar" to restart the game after switching to dx12 and it would just stop registering the pression of my space bar (yes it's not my keyboard don't worry). Zakfiel 16
I reverted to Vulkan, either fullscreen or fullscreen windowed work for me. But it does alt-tab at the start a few time, now i only use Windows+tab instead of alt+tab and for me, it to lock the game in place and no more flick. Maybe they did a hotfix and i didn't noticed but anyway 🤷♂️ Edited September 3, 2020 by Zakfiel
Soulstrayn 0
Got the game last week and this is happening to me. Tried the various fixes around online and the only one that worked was disabling your internet connection. This works for me but obviously can't play online this way. 😑
markovich 19
Setting it to borderless windowed instead of fullscreen helped me. Edited September 13, 2020 by markovich
