Red Dead Online just needs it's "Heists" moment

seems like the Naturalist update has been a bust in terms of the consensus

its a shame, i really think RDO just needs its big "Heists" moment like what Heists did for GTAO

I argued that the Heist update for GTAO changed GTAO for the better, still think RDO needs that, maybe Rockstar is waiting till next gen for the big stuff

And more gunfighting action, less delivery mission bullsh*t. This game is mostly P.O.O.: Post Office Online. No more delivery missions. Let's have more action. More ways to make money as outlaws, not as park rangers or whatever.

Lobby choices/options like gta4 have been the top thing keeping me from this game.  I’m way too burnt out on the forced pvp.  This game needs to give the players the options to play how they feel at the moment, if you want a map wide pvp death match go there,  if you want to goof around with a few friends w/out worry go there, The ability to host the different game modes and invite who we want.  We also need more locations “Mexico, guarma, maybe something to the north and most of all something that isn’t a pvp advisory mode.  But like I expected from this “update” we won’t get any of that, maybe on next gen but by then it’ll be like I’ve said before numerous times that’s way too little way too late to bring players back or keep people interested, there’s a library of games that have come out w/ more to come between now and then that will grab players attention.

It needs a heist moment for sure. I’m thinking that the next update will be an extension of the BH role (ie. Outlaw role). Just as moonshine was an extension of trader, and naturalist an extension of collector.

RDO definitely needs Heists, the game is crying out for some large scale co-op PvE.

If RDO ever gets its Heist moment, that will be the peak of the game, everything after it will be step after step in declining quality and towards an inevitable bloated sh*tshow, just like GTAO.

Heists and all the rest of the good stuff will be held back for next gen. The game still has massive potential, but I doubt it'll peak until at least next summer, maybe later.

All recent updates were “peaceful”, in the end of the year we should get “the heists”, or, at least, an outlaw role.

I can see: 1st side: Train Dealer role. Build your own company and protect it.  2nd role: You are a thief, and you will get a tasty reward for heisting the trains and extra wagons, but it will be not as simple as you might think.

or smth like that

I don't think heists would save this game.

Agreed. I still think more freeroam variety could do wonders for longer-term game play variety, mixing things up; such as:

* Swimming underwater (fossil hunting anyone? variety in evasion from the law? dicey alligator dodging?)
* Limited, risky--and UNweaponized--air travel (infrequent hot air balloons, rickety hang gliders off select high cliffs, homemade parachutes)
* Bicycles (it's something different, and certainly not going to put horses out of business for in-game travel; could make for some hilarious video clips)
* Traps (bear, others?)
* Quick sand (can be used as a death trap for NPCs or players unaware of their surroundings)

* Electrical hazards in certain places (early days of electricity... downed electrical lines in random city spots?)

Note to R*: think of the money and gold you could charge for each item/service players would be spending!

I think the game will limp along until an update like heists comes out.  Veterans will not even need them for monetary purposes, it will bring in the a lot of new players which is a blessing and curse.  And like the current role, will breath some life into the game.  Heists will not be a game changer like it was for GTAO, the forced cooperation needed for heists is a blessing and a curse.  Back in the GTAO days, you needed to work with people because there was no way to make money.  This helped grow the community. Now it backwards,  the veterans will not tolerate low levels telling people how to play.  Back in GTAO, you had to deal with these people.  Its kindve the way heists are now in GTAO...imagine being required to run the casino heist or ddh with 3 players reqired. I would not have even attempted them.   There is simply no in game reward worth enduring people life b.s.  With all due respect, I have my own.  But I do not want to have to deal with a random person in another time zone to complete a video game mission.   One of the beautiful things about original heists was that they were easy enough to complete with randoms, but challening enough that replaying them was fun.

Heist's wasnt the peak of GTAO.  That was just the beginning of the peak.

VIP, CEO, and Biker update.  Even the Car boosting was good.

It's when the OP special vehicles started coming about.  The Camaro with the rockets...the Oppressor....just ugh.  Gun Running would have been perfectly fine with the Mobile CC and custom guns.  It's just the OP vehicles...

which, due to some technological limitations, might not happen in RDO.  Then again, if we get Unicorns with howitzers strapped onto the side, we might be f'ed in the A.

The game still has no end game, nothing to strive towards. From launch GTAO had Apartments and the Adder, without glitches or whatever it would have taken you ages to reach that but it was still a goal, light at the end of the tunnel...the end game. This game has none of that, nothing to keep pushing you forward.

The Apartments/Adder were the goal and before the majority of people reached it they kept adding new stuff to push that end game goal further and further away and in different directions but it was still there whereas RDO is struggle to keep up with the players, the players are outpacing the content.

GTAO endgame was pathetically low too at the beginning.  A big apartment with a 10-car garage with whatever mix of customized cars you wanted didn't take long with their vanilla content.  I joined GTAO late and had everything (except an Adder because I didn't like them) long before Heists came out.  There are still players now chasing the end of the roles in RDO - the players that aren't because they got there a long time ago are not the majority of players as new players come in everyday.

Like both games it really just depends on how efficient you play. The difference though is the Collector Role in RDO - that kind of broke it once the pattern was figured out and could be exploited on a literal daily basis.  I did it without even needing the bithub map.  That bithub map though, like the dup glitch or some of the moneyrunning schemes in early GTA, really opened it for everyone to have more money than they know what to do with in a short amount of time.  Plus GTA didn't have a pandemic force everybody in the development studios to work at home (they probably would have had new content out by mid-April/early May had that not happened) and now everything has been pushed back.

I've been playing with a new character for about 5 weeks now.  No Prime benefits, no RSS benefits.  It is an early grind to say the least.  So the content is there for new players to continue to work on.  It's just the players that have exploited the f*** outta the game are stuck with nothing to enjoy in free roam for long periods of time.  And that's not their fault though - R* is the one that implemented the economy breaking Collector Role.

Agree with this mostly^^^ But it's not just players that exploit the map that are stuck with nothing to enjoy...  I've NEVER exploited that map.  IDGAFOS about the collector role and I ranked it up just by looting collectibles off of bodies and grabbing one if my controller started vibrating in an area.  I never sought out to collect, yet 2 of my accounts have more gold an $ than they could possibly spend.  I started a third account to keep me busy.  It's a minimalist role, I have never sought out to collect anything, I ranked up the role to 20 without even purchasing the shovel.  I have only sold one set of flowers.

But what do you want? I get that you want something big but what would it be?

Heists completely changed GTAO and turned it into some Saturday morning cartoon parody, paving the way for the utter f*cking sh*t show it is now. Once you "go big" you need to keep getting bigger and bigger. Do you want to break into Siska and escape in a Hot Air Balloon with Maxim Gun attached? Yes, that sounds awesome but R* will take note of people loving it and add the Hot Air Balloon with Maxim Gun to Free Roam because they know they can make bank off it and from there it's a slippery slope.

You think that after its "Heists Update" people will go back to a single Role each Update? Be careful what you wish for.

To follow on from what I said earlier, people wonder why GTA has had THREE Heists Updates and is getting a fourth? Because the Heists Updates make R* serious bank and because they can use them as an excuse to add more and more silly toys.

Imagine you get a Heist to rob an underground vault under Cornwall Kerosene and Tar, you set up the Heist, go through the Heist and in the end you come across what he's been hiding, a fully working automobile specially made and imported from Europe. That's what you have been paid to steal. You steal it, sell it and then unlock the ability to buy your own. Boom, they just added cars with an in universe explanation.

I want something big and cooperative too. It's hard to imagine them being anything more than large scale shootouts with interesting set pieces. Perhaps there could be lawful and unlawful versions of these heists. Here are the only concepts I have atm.

- Train Robbery. The most obvious choice, robbing a moving passenger train. A successful stealth approach should grant you more money and gold. Said mission should have variations, like: Hero passengers, rival gang attempts at robbery, the cavalry, Pinkerton's, blown bridge, ect. Then escape the train by jumping off into dome water where boats are waiting. If the authorities have been alerted, the shoot-out continues on water. If not, successful escape.

Maybe a point where you can switch tracks. This keeps the law clueless to your location, but also puts a time limit (end of the track)

The fact there are no parallel tracks kind of limits the missions options for pursuit. No hand-carts or train chases.

-Jailbreak. Pretty self explanatory. Essentially the online version of the extraction of John Marston from Sisiska Penitentary. Maybe we could get there from a early airplane this time.

Successful stealth approach includes obtaining info from prisoners regarding lost treasures and hidden stashes, sometimes on the mainland, sometimes in the island itself (which means you would have to find it before the mission ends) The prisoner we're freeing could be a foreign revolutionary or diplomat, granting a descent payday.

There could also be rarer, harder, and higher paying Guarma version of this mission, without snipers.

-Goldmine. Rob a gold mine or free the workers before the mine is destroyed with TNT(and still get some cash). R* could go all out and create a larger underground mine for this mission. It could be accessed via TNT cut-scene or...place it Mexico.

-

-Mexico/Guarma. Not much to say beyond that. Add stuff to Mexico for missions and utilize Guarma for some.

-Rob the River Boat...or protect the River boat. If we our weapons get reduced to machetes and knives, that would be super. From there we be jumping boat-to-boat, escaping or pursuing, engaging in nothing buy violent melee the whole time! Yargh!

Still, the problem remains that these are still mostly just large scale shootouts and stealth missions...I still want it though.

I just don't understand why people always bring up only the collector role. It requires you to wander around the map lots of hours if you want to be efficient and make lots of money.

While trader, moonshiner and even bounty hunter roles always felt more like just waiting for product to fill up and then sell it. Bounty hunter just afk the legendary mission for half an hour before completing it.

I think what has blown my mind, is that we have had updates about collecting stuff, protecting/hunting animals, moonshining, and bounty hunting before we got the ESSENTIAL western stuff: Robbing Trains and Banks (that one Samson Finch mission is a disgrace of a bank robbery btw).

Seriously, what the hell?

IMO, R* is putting the content "drip feed" on extreme 'snail mode'--keeping any/all good stuff for years from now to stretch the game out as long as they can without losing most of their player base.

Thats exactly it. I personally think they are keeping the good stuff until the PS5 and next Xbox release. This Gen has just been one massive BETA.

Because Trader, BH, and Moonshiner complimented each other and gave a nice profit margin so long as you paid each one proper attention.

But a Collector?   You literally need to do nothing else and the cash output trumps all the others combined.

I can absolutely see something like the balloon with maxim gun and being able to fire off explosive arrows etc in the games future just like they did with the flying bikes and stuff on GTA 🤦🏻‍♂️ that garbage was why I quit GTA, Rockstar where more interested in making money even if it catered to the griefers more than anyone else.
