It's the last thing I need for this naturalist "collection". Thanks in advance! You can find timber wolves in cumberland forest and the road above Hanging Dog Ranch. The location above Hanging Dog is a crap shoot...sometimes gray wolves spawn, sometimes its timber wolves, sometimes its a mix of gray and timber wolves. Also, the compendium will give you locations of where you can find the animals. For the timber wolf in the compendium: "The timber wolf is native to the Cumberland Forest and the Grizzlies..." I haven't had much luck with timber wolves up in the snow/Colter area. Mostly I run into gray wolves up there. Maybe you could have some luck by doing the Wolf Man legendary bounty and just tranq wolves all over the place? Haven't tried it, but it might be worth a shot. 2 hours ago, Alan7777 said: Anywhere in particular? If I'm not mistaken, the Black-Tailed Rattlesnake is the only snake you find in New Austin. I'm not 100% certain on that claim but I can say for sure that I've killed a lot of them in New Austin. RaigeGames
So how does the animal tagging FR event work? The entire time I played i didn't find a single animal even though everyone else was tagging animals like crazy. Did i do something wrong or was i just unlucky? I think just unlucky, I saw quite a few both times I played. Keep an eye on your mini map for white blips, those are event animals. I just rode around until I saw the blips, then headed to them. STNeish
I had been looking forward to this role. As a scientist in reality, I liked the idea of doing a role that felt like doing research. However, I am finding it INCREDIBLY frustrating. You have to shoot anything a billion times to sedate it, making it nearly impossible to achieve. Even small critters like rabbits take multiple shots. I've spent SO long trying to chase down a pronghorn, that I'm sick to my stomach, the thing takes hit after hit after hit, running at warp speed while jinking and weaving and passing through foliage so thick it's impossible to see or navigate... and my horse is no help, deliberately steering itself into every tree and rock. I've gone through THOUSANDS of rounds now, and only managed to sedate one fox. SO frustrating. If there was a way to deliver a large enough dose to sedate things in 2 or 3 hits... THAT would be nice. This nonsense of chasing a thing for a thousand miles, hitting it a billion times with ammo that does nothing to it... no fun at all. This nonsense of chasing a thing for a thousand miles, hitting it a billion times with ammo that does nothing to it... no fun at all. Here's a few things I do.. Hope it helps. First use dead eye when you can. Even though it doesn't slow time like story mode I feel like I can get a few more hits off while it's in use. Also try to search in open areas like Heartlands.. there's a lot of pronghorns there too and virtually no foliage. I also use the blending tonics. It allows you to get a lot closer to animals without spooking them. I usually spot animals across a field I jump off my horse, use tonic, crouch and slowly walk up, activate dead eye and let her rip. Best of luck. RaigeGames
Jason
Once I figured out sedation I've had little to no problems with it. Some stuff does take more shots, but each animal has a consistent amount as far as I can tell. A rabbit for example takes two shots, you should hear a sound effect when you've hit it twice with sedation ammo. Other animals range from 2 to about 8, depending on the size. Don't spam shots, that makes it easy to miss with RDO's aiming mechanics, wait for the reticle bloom to settle and then shoot. If you're chasing something on horseback don't spam the sprint button, either hold it or just let go to slow down and use eagle eye to track the animal. I do think though, and I've said as much before, that there should be more rewards, more pay off with this role. For example with Collector you gained access to the metal detector, with Trader you got access to new wagons, BH you got access to new tools and bigger bounties, Moonshiner (which wasn't perfect at this either) got you access to new recipes and whatnot. Naturalist? You get everything in the role day 1, the only thing you unlock are recipe pamphlets which aren't worth it at all and legendary missions. They really should have had larger sedation ammo to sedate the bigger animals quicker as an unlock once you leveled up a bit. I'm pretty sure I did it before, so yes, but you might have to get it close and within line of sight of Gus or something for it to show up in the sell menu. FYI too everyone by the way, you need to skin a legendary animal and sell that skin to Gus to unlock it's clothing option. Which is why the only legendary animal I found in free roam didn't show up in Gus' clothing options... :\ Ronin Ogami and Xtf
DM_Tony
How does the legendary animal mission end if you decide to kill/skin the target? Do you load back into free mode whilst holding the pelt? I ask because every time I finish the mission by getting the sample, I get disconnected due to R* servers after loading back into free mode after 15-30 seconds … would be a shame to lose the pelt! Copy and pasted stuff from SP that gives a bonus so small you'll barely notice it are pretty slim pickings, IMO. Aside from better sedation ammo I also really wish they did something with the camp. Since RDO launched I have always hated how because hunting is so reliant on vendors that the hunting grounds all revolve around vendor locations. There's places like the Grizzlies in particular that would be amazing hunting locations but there's no vendors there for it to be practical. So, something with the camp which you can take anywhere where you could store or deliver stuff to Gus/Harriet would be great. Mechanically speaking it doesn't feel like the role progresses at all from the moment you start it, you'll still hunting in the same places and you're still using the same ammo and gun. You unlock the legendary animal missions, which are good, and those trinkets, which are pretty meh IMO but the gameplay of the role doesn't evolve at all. Compare that to Collector with the shovel at 0 or the detector at 5 which open up new stuff with the role, or the increased bounty sizes with BH and the wagon which can make life easier, bigger deliveries with the Trader for more money, hunting wagon for easier hunting. The Naturalist has none of that stuff. ORLAG, Xtf and Talisman_83
