I'm wondering (hoping) that we'll be able to make more items of clothing out the Legendary animals in the dripfeed. Otherwise once you craft the clothing there's no need to hunt it again

Whatever code logic they're using to spawn legendary animals in FR is either RNG based or entirely broken...

 

I have stumbled upon the fox ion Rhodes and the beaver near Strawberry totally by accident but the Katata elk does not f*cking spawn. Currently level 20 naturalist and have literally circled the Cumberland falls area for a good 45 minutes with every conceivable variable of day, night, foggy, drizzle, heavy rain. It is NOT spawning and I have no idea what triggers the damn thing.

 

The right way to do this is the animal spawns in the server once every 24 "game" hours after its killed.

Farm any animal samples you see until level 5, then do Harriet's legendary animal missions. You get a good chunk, like 400xp per mission, then another 300 or so for selling her the legendary samples.

Anyone have any idea how long these blending tonics last? I feel like I'm going through a lot of them.. Haven't noticed any messages pop up like in story mode "effects have worn off" or anything like that.

Looks like most of what I've picked has been covered but here's some tips I haven't seen. 

 

After you get the red x and chime to say you've pumped enough sedative into an animal, lasso it to stop it running.  If you're near water this is much easier than trying to push them back to shore. 

 

You don't need to photo or kill/skin animals to turn in rewards but if you want to photgraph predators stun them and take a sample first.  Then set your bolt action rifle as your quick weapon and get out your camera. Then you can take a photo as the animals comes round and quickly switch to your rifle and head shot the animal as it charges which will kill all normal predators. 

 

I think there's a sweet spot or 2 for the seditives.  There's a little red spot on the animal when you go into deadeye. I've only hit it on one buck so far but it dropped on my second shot.  Honestly it's easier to do 5 quick shots but might be worth trying for if you sneak up on them. 

 

I also think changing into clean clothes reduces your timeout from Harriet.  This is probably a coincidence but it seemed to help.

The Legendary Animal missions from Harriet.. I only seem to get the Inahme Elk, Night Beaver, Icahi Boar, Patya Bison, Cross Folk and Rutile Horn Ram.

Has anyone else received other animals? I'm at level 11

Those are the only legendary animal missions I also have.

 

I'm hoping these rotate them weekly because FR legendary spawns are currently fubar.

Just to follow this up, I played the animal tagging free roam event again tonight, but this time I paid more attention. I sold all my samples before the event so I knew exactly what I got from the event. It was in the Tumbleweed area again. I got 8 different samples including another cougar and another legendary Maza cougar. Was a pretty good haul. I did not sample any of them myself as every animal I came across was an event animal and I only had the option to tag them. I noticed under the timer it would display things like “cougar sampled” or “big horn sheep sampled”. I also saw a yellow paw on the map, which I assume was the legendary cougar. So, both times I played this event a legendary animal has spawned during the event. Might be a way to go after more legendaries. Definitely worth doing.

Do you need to get the Trader role first? A friend of mine is trying to get the Naturalist role and he says the yellow magnifying glass is not appearing for him in Strawberry to start the Naturalist role.

That never occurred to me I'll have to try that today, when I'm off work at 5:30 AM (lunch now.)  I have been having problems with some being sedated when in water, especially a gator/whatever, so I'm 

"swimming" by them and can't take the sample. 

 

WHOA, I'll have to try the animal free roam event; no idea free samples  (as Sundevil said.) 

 

I found a good way to "photograph" the legendary/whatever too, just kind of move the camera around the whole area and keep taking photos when that green border is showing

(at least on the advanced camera, the only one that works for me for credit for the photographs.) I did that earlier tonight with the Legendary Bison, which I could not even pick 

out of the herd, but moving the camera around and taking enough photos it finally gave me credit.

 

Something else working for me, for some animals:

 

If I trample them/kill them by running into them with the horse, then I can skin them to complete them as a kill/skin in the book. 

So far this has not made Harriet mad, so she doesn't "Mace" me. After I did a bunch that way, she did say something like

"blood on your hands..." but nothing bad happened. Before and after she was still saying, "you've been very good!"

Potent predator bait worked like a charm for me last night, got a 3* Grizzly at Bear Claw and another 3* Grizzly along with two 3* Grey Wolves just North of Hanging Dog Ranch.

 

Managed to get both items I wanted from Gus in under 15 minutes.

I liked the Legendary Bison mission a lot. I ran out into the flower field in Big Valley, and a grizzly showed up far behind me. It came charging, but I was ready with the elephant rifle. 2 meters away it got a headshot.

So I tried it again later, but didn’t notice that my nitro rounds was at zero. It came charging and the gun went “click”. Do you think I felt like Sarah Connor at the end of Terminator 2? You best believe I did! And yeah I got mauled.

If a gator makes it to the water before going under, you can use the lasso to drag it out.

yes it really it helps a lot but u use it when the ? is on the reader when u see that then u can use it , these no point use in it if u dont see the ? as it will not work and try and get a solo lobby to get them the poker table solo still works i got the maza cougar and the elk from it so far  , and people why dont no one reply back to people qwho need help sometimes ?

IMO its not worth it. Crafting these pheremones is not worth the effort.

 

and if the ? isnt on the map, these pheremones cant be used. if the ? is on the map, the legendary animal has already spawned, so why should I use it then?

Even if you get the ? on the map, you can still lose the animal.

 

I had a situation with the fox which is insanely quick vanish on me and the pheromones helped me track it down.

 

So they're not totally worthless.

I've tried this with deer and it didn't work, it usually works with un-sedated animals.

Never tried with the gator.

 

You can herd them away from water if you get between them and the water, they will turn to avoid you.

Beavers are a bugger to keep out of the water, this is probably the best way to keep them dry.

There should be an easier way to keep track of which samples you have stamped already and those you don't other than switching menus all the time, preferably in the sell menu.

It does work with deer. Well at least it did.

The lasso often fails to attach to a deer, even when looking to drag an extra carcass back to Cripps.

Try aiming the lasso for it's torso rather than the neck (R* logic).
