Do not hold onto excess samples UNLESS you are trying to collect multiple full sets at once.

I killed a legendary boar and now that soppy conversationist bint wont talk to me and it's been 20 hours real time, Got a nice boar hat and coat though. Yeah you can kill them, if you want to get xp from samples don't kill them. I would imagine sampling them requires the ability to track them though not splatter them to pieces with an elephant gun.

I finished my farming run, by far ... it was my best option and bet to farm samples around the farm animals collection.

 

60$, 1150 Role XP, 1000 XP. (Good only to make Role XP, good to pass time while moonshine is going on, okay).

 

Less than a Hour and i finished the whole set, plus got other samples, i've learned.

 

The crazy girl shop spawns and can be used while the player is doing legendary bounties. So i'm using Yukon Nik' bounty to farm rarer uncommon animals, to get more animal spawns and to resupply my ammo.

 

 

You can get all the samples mainly in the Heartlands and Ranches in New Hannover around:

 

 

- Carmody Dell Ranch in Heartlands spawns (not at same time) all Bulls and Oxens variations, usually 1 Bull or 1 Bull and 1 Oxen + A lot of Florida Cows. (I usually go in both Carmody and Guthrie Farm to farm Oxens and Bulls, since Bulls have 3 variations, and gives time to respawn).

 

- Hill Raven Ranch in Lemoyne spawns at least 1 Bull (Mainly Angus and Devon), rarely 1 oxen and a lot of Florida Cows.

 

- Emerald Ranch can spawn all the 2 Oxens (usually not at same time) variations, 2 Goats, a lot of Merino Sheeps and Florida Cows.

 

- Guthrie Farm (close to Emerald Ranch) can spawns all the 2 Oxens variations, but only one ox at time.

 

- Chadwick Farm, and the auction close to the Train station in Valentine spawns Merino Sheeps.

 

- All Pig variations can spawn close to Flatneck Station (all spawns here, by far the best place but mostly China Pigs), Braithwaite Manor and southwest of Valentine (Usually 2 China Pigs, 1 Old Spot and 1 Berkshire).

Just got the level 20. Legendary animal missions from Harriet are the fastest way to level up by far.

 

One of the funniest missions give you easy 10 beaver samples, when you get attacked by a gang of beavers

But I haven't seen legendary out of Harriet missions, even with the game telling that I have "increased chance of spotting legendary animals" now. Maybe they are very rare, or I'm unlucky, can't say.

So I tracked the f*cking leg fox and when I found it I couldn't lock on? I'm supposed to free aim leg animals? It ended up getting away, what a load of cock.

Yeah, free aim. The fox is hard to follow, bring a horse with you.

I've seen one but I've had absolutely no luck finding another outside of the mission. I've even used the lure stuff and nothing has happened, I also have the increased chance too.

 

Got absolutely no idea how these spawns work lol.

How does the sedating work? Is it timed or do you need to hit them a certain amount of times, does it effect different animals differently?

You need to hit the animal a certain amount of times, there will be a wood chime sound effect that plays when you've hit it enough.

 

Some animals seem to wake up quicker, like predators, but beyond that every animal can be sedated just like any other.

I'm still level 1 Naturalist but found a legendary boar outside my Moonshine shack in Tall Trees ... just a ? icon and it was just there, took a photo before it rammed me but I managed to sedate and sample it (hit about 5 -10 times before the dark red X popped up).

 

Questions; Can legendary pelts be damaged or not (like in story mode) and what is the quickest method to down them? Rifle Express rounds? 

 

Also can the legendary carcass be stored and retrieved in the hunting wagon? In case we can't get to Gus ... sorry I haven't used it yet

Damaged, no. As far as quickest to kill, I don't know, maybe the Elephant Rifle, poison Arrow or just unlead into them with a rifle/repeater probably.

 

You can store them in hunting wagons, yes.

The Buck Trinket requires 1 buck antler + 1 specific collector jewel to make, but if you have 2 or more antlers it says you don't have the required items. Sold 1 antler and it worked

Not a glitch, you need to sell the stuff to him for him to have it in stock to craft with.

Explosives with ruin the pelt from what I've heard. But other than that, no. I've had pretty good success with the elephant rifle

Yeah I still had to hit the boar 3 times with an elephant gun at close range.

Anyone know if legendary animals respawn? The game glitched out on me when I tried to sell the marble fox and I lost it.

Been back to Colter 4 times and its not spawning.

If they do respawn, is there a set time? 24-48 hours or something?

I think them spawning is pure RNG in general. I'm visiting their spots and nothing is spawning for me at all.

Anyone who has went looking for legendary animals in free roam and found them, what did you do? Ride through and they spawned? Roamed the area until they spawned?

 

I'm wondering if the best cause of action is to route your way through all the legendary spots rather than wander around one particular spot.

I did find the legendary boar, but it was purely by accident.

South of Thieves Landing, I noticed a trail of corpses. Followed them and the wee bastard appeared.

Also, perhaps unrelated but I came across a corpse up near Colter when I was looking for the fox and a bear appeared. Never seen that set up before.

The legendary beaver spawned as I was passing its spot in Owanjila.

But it isn't as reliable as before the update, a lot of the animal spawns have been changed a bit but the region mostly is correct.

So I just found a legendary cougar in Gaptooth. Looked at the map Harriet gives you to see if there was any in my area, headed over to the area marked with the cougar and I guess I got lucky? Saw the golden ? on the mini-map and rode over to it.

My only free roam legendary was from riding through an area too. So, at a guess, there's a chance of it to spawn when you ride through and if it doesn't then moving on seems to be the best option.
