KingpinRCR
I can see (well, before the latest patch that is) critical areas online. I’m not sure if that always was the case or just recently. I can’t tell if it was only with the varmint rifle and sedative rounds or any gun/ammo either...
Kirk Lazarus
Random bit about Rockstar... why didn't they use this guy for the Naturalist or even for the Trapper? I suppose because it didn't fit the story dynamic of don't shoot animals vs. shoot animals. Still... there's a lot of unused characters I wish they'd consider. Kirsty
Anyone know how long a Blending Tonic is meant to last? And can it be only used on non-aggressive animals? Just tried to get a photograph of alligator and it didn't seem to do anything and I died.

AdamNortonUK
Another note relating to the spawns of Legendary Animals if you've not already experienced or know about it, LAs can spawn in Bounty Board missions, and I can now confirm as it has happened to me, they can also spawn whilst doing Trader and Moonshiner deliveries. Also, you have more chance of LAs spawning due to the game not spawning Moonshiner Free Roam missions, Hideouts and a couple of other spawns that only happen when not on a mission so the random chance if the conditions are right. Managed to get the Midnight Paw Coyote in Strawberry near to the drop off for a Moonshine delivery location, so was an added bonus since I had plenty of time left, decided to get the Coyote before finishing off the Moonshine delivery. DuduLima
I saw in some threads/posts around the net a common problem which some players are having when hunting LA: the fact of having to defend themselves against other player/players ... so i was in these days in RDO trying to find builds to counter players and defend myself and got this for lone wolves: Solo Builds that worked for me in PVP 1V1 and 1V2 when hunting some of those animals. --- Ability Cards --- Slippery Bastard or Slow And Steady is useful if you attack them first or in retaliation and gets in Attacking Mode. Moment To Recuperate is good for a Def. Build. Moment To Recuperate + Horseman + Come Back Stronger + Strange Medicine. (Def.Build) SB Or SS + Horseman + Peak Condition + Iron Lung. (Atk.Build). Fool Me Once + Friends For Life can replace any of the above passive cards depending if you are playing in a offensive or in defensive. Mid levels or Repeater/Double Action/Cattleman people can use Winning Streak instead of Horseman to have a ground or per shot advantage. - I know many already said this but is always good to put in the lines: PAINT IT BLACK doesn't mark LA's, so as a Better offensive/Defensive options, those Ab. Cards in the Dead Eye category are far better options to use around if you gets in a nasty situation. --- Weapons --- Bow + Explosive Arrows + Explosive Ammo in a Repeater Or Rifle + Cattleman or SA Pistol with Ex. Ammo (To buy time in a last resort) + Dynamites and Fire Bottles and Defensive Mode is good to roam around. (And since rifles is the main weapon which you probably will be using to kill the LA animal, just a quick switch and done). Low Level: Cattleman + Bolt-Action + Lancaster (Dynamites and Fire Bottles) are consistent options, which gets better with Winning Streak. --- Tactics i've used to flee and or counterattack --- If a enemy player/players comes after you, but you killed the legendary animal and managed to skin, store and you is already in your horse, you can try to focus in run away or use the Bow + Ex. Arrow to kill them or their horses. or if they are really too close but you managed to get a cover ... you can dismiss your horse to avoid problems and keep killing/or buying time for yourself until you spawn close to a road and a roaming NPC is passing around (to flee). (LA's in Lagras/Bluewater Marsh are annoying ... and by far is the worst place to do this because Gators, yet the Gators will go away if you shoot them with a weaker weapon, so this can be useful alongside roaming close or hiding on the trees to escape and depending of the situation ... turn even some of them Gators' to your pursuers direction.) If you just killed the animal but a player is approaching ... is better to spam Bow + Ex.Arrow plus Dynamites to buy some time until your horse comes around and you can store the pelt/animal in your horse, if it is in a open area such as Heartlands/Gaptooth Ridge Roads is better to use the Hunting Wagon, because of versatility to store without problems, even if you cart is destroyed but you stored the pelt it will be there, and if you gets killed before storing or skinning, you will have a advantage depending of the spawn. --- Low Levels --- I'm not a low level player anymore, but i've learned to buy time and gain kills with low level weapons by going offensive while tending to Dead Eye and some AC in Defensive. A Moment to Recuperate: + boost in the Life while DE is active ??? Life is always useful, depending of your build this card can literally save your life. (Slow And Steady yet can be a better combo since it's ability tank HS). Slow And Steady will buy yourself some time against all kinds of people including HS expert/build fellas. (Since this is by far the best defensive option depending of your DE gauge and doesn't gets affected by SB, this is a proper option to get). LVL:24. Horseman: Even with a simple but full affection horse ... this will do, low levels can tend to this since this is unlocks at LVL:10. But if you have some levels take WS. Winning Streak: Repeaters and BA Rifle will be a main to do your job, even if the enemy have SB, you will have options to keep going with some shots and keeping rising your damage. LVL:48. Peak Condition: Self-Explanatory, keeping your stamina bar above 75% will give you more damage, a classic combo with Winning Streak. LVL:14. Come Back Stronger: Shoot your enemy = More Life to your Health Bar. LVL:10. i didn't put Gunslinger's Choice on the table, because it is best to invest in consistent choices, while Gunslinger's would actually be effective in a short range, a uncommon/rare combat setup while hunting LA's. Since low levels doesn't have any way to craft explosive ammo, it is best to attack any foe ASAP, Ex. Ammo as far as they are limited ... they are powerful enough to change the situation around. --- End --- Put all of this in this thread since i never saw outside GTAF and even some pages a proper thread made for fellow naturalists, also newer discussion posts focused on this in specific, so if anyone have tactics to share and help fellow people, please quote and respond, TY. Have you tried this in a legendary bounty? That would theoretically give you unlimited time to run around grabbing them. I can try tomorrow, or if you know or would like to try, let me know. I've not, no. t's unlikely that they will spawn there as Rockstar may have turned them off, since in a select few Legendary Bounty missions there are no animals or no predators etc. So I wouldn't put it past Rockstar to have turned them off, but worth a try though. drizzi_b
BUT THE BENZ
questions about tonics: can we CRAFT someting like the hardy tonics? or wait, let me re-phrase, can we craft ANY of the tonics sold by harriet, ASIDE from the blending tonic?!? redskins1961
Obviously we dont want the role to be finished too quickly, but I have just spend nearly 2 hours, just trying to find a pig. Been to all the locations suggested online, every pig pen is empty, been to everywhere twice now. As far as I am aware there are no animal spawning issues now in RDR online. Only place I did see one, was SE of Elysian Pool, but you cannot sedate it, without getting in a gun fight, and by the time youve killed them all, the sedated pig is no longer there. I thought the bounty hunter role was a grind, but this is just getting silly. Used to see a lot of pig pens full before the naturalist role appeared. I am not fully aware of how her mechanism works though. If I did choose to talk to her despite the salty reaction, she will mace me and I will sit in a 5 min time out, then go back and move on with my life. Do I have an alternative to come back later and not get a salty response at that time? Is it number of animals killed that the issue or is a time limit involved? XxGreyBushxX
It feels to me like I have to eat constantly since this update, when I didn't before. So it's nice to have a few, just in case. Also, if you want to always run around with a legendary coat on, you'll need hardy tonics to save on food. I run around with teca coat and gator hat (hides the hood) and those gator skinned boots on, so my guy is always freaking hot. Beatrice
So I bought the Elephant Rifle... I don't recall when was the last time I felt so scammed. I can compare killing legendary cougars, elks and wolves between my PS4 and PC accounts where I used the BA Rifle with Exrpress Ammo and the Elephant Rifle respectively; in case of BA Rifle, it took 4-5 direct hits; in case of Elephant Rifle, it took 7-10 (worst being the cougar). Yeah, I know about the long ADS, it had nothing to do with this. It goes straight into the gun locker, and I regret wasting almost 600$ on this hot garbage. éX-Driver
Gotta say, the most fun I’ve ever had in a video game is hoofing it after The Cowardly Mountain Lion zig-zagging its way across New Austin for 20 minutes, unable to catch it because my horse REFUSES to come no matter how much I whistle. Getting three lucky sedative rounds in it [that do nothing because ‘reasons’], only to watch it sprint off into the distance and me lose it despite the fact real cougars can’t run fast for more than a minute or two because they literally evolved to only sprint for short bursts. and of course, it’s the only time that dopey zoophilic bint has EVER decided to give me a wild animal besides the Night Beaver, Inahme Elk, Milk Coyote, the bloody Big Valley bispn, and Icahi Boar. After sending a few haymakers into my punching bag to blow off some steam I decide to go back to her and see if she’ll offer me it again, and nope! Right back to the former 5 animals she’s been offering on repeat for the last week and a half. I very much wish I could find the bastard who programmed these missions so I could use them to blow off steam instead Edited September 17, 2020 by éX-Driver Big TIme McGill and BUT THE BENZ 1

Literally spent 30 minutes chasing this sucker only for him to get away and the timer to end. Got maybe five sedative rounds into him and it did nothing. Decided to try a second time a few days later, this time going for the kill. Even after hitting him six times it did nothing and I wasn't going to bother with the chase after that. I've toyed with the idea of just throwing dynamite at him to soften him up after he gets out of his cage in the poacher version although that may damage the pelt. I don't mind a grind but this beast is ridiculous.
