Any Rifle or Sniper Rifle with high velocity or express rounds is enough, the hitbox for a 1-shot clean kill on a Grizzly Bear seems to be above the eyes, it is really a small target when checking in the dead eye, this mad bastard can take 1 shot in the head if the shot isn't on the hitbox, so this complicate things.

 

Also the Legendary Tatanka Bison which spawns in Heartland Overflow area also spawns really close to Emerald Ranch, so if anyone is searching close to the train tracks or south of heartlands, you can extend the search.

 

(Also a little bit of B&M, i love how the classic glitch of losing the pelt stored in the horse when using fast travel is still around, lost 2 legendary pelts in a single day, GJ R*).

just dont use dynamite arrow as u have to hunt it again

Ok I learned to today, that you can trade in your stamps, if you got all of them collected per category.

 

but what happens, if you got all animal checklists at 100%? is there a reward, too?

If you dismiss your horse before you fast travel then call it again when you get to your destination then your pelts will still be on the horse.

When you see Harriet, you hold square to go into missions. At that point, you’ll see Legendary animal hunts listed on the left. You can select those with X (provided you’re above level 5 Naturalist. If you want to do a Poacher mission instead (you don’t BTW), then there’s a prompt on the right telling you to press square.

 

I suspect you have the legendary animal hunt selected, but are pressing square (to start a poacher mission) instead of X to start the legendary. Either that, or you’re not level 5 yet and so the legendary missions are greyed out. Hope that helps.

Keep practicing with the poison arrows; the are awesome for their purpose. The bow is my primary weapon whenever I move into an area with grizzlies or big cats. A clean shot to the head or chest is still needed to avoid damaging the pelt, but if you don't kill them outright they'll stop attacking and wander off to die from the poison without additional damage to the carcass or pelt, which is the main advantage to other weapons.

 

If you can spot them sitting still before they spot you, a sniper rifle will provide the best chance for a perfect kill; Springfield and Bolt Action can perform the same function. I figure I should have plenty of time to switch to a good rifle if I can get a good sighting; so I'll ride around with poison arrows until then.

My wifes character shot killed and skinned a Legendary boar.

Tusk shows as yellow and skin on back of horse greenish yellow. 

 

She doesn't have Naturalist Role.

General butcher looks like he would take the tusk, but not the pelt. Haven't checked with the fence yet

any suggestions, if this happens again

other than getting Nat role

If she has the Trader role, I am pretty sure she can give it to cripps

You just have to go to Strawberry and watch the introduction video for naturalist, then Gus is available and you can sell legendary pelts to him. No need to buy role.

That actually works for you in online? Dead only shows critical areas for me in single player. (My level is over 200).

It is slow until you hit rank 5 (when you can do poacher, legendarys.) 

 

Reviving the animal, with that revive thing she sells, was getting me 13 xp (possibly a bonus from one of the things in Wheeler Rawson thingie, I leveled up to 80 with gold..  )

I think otherwise it is 10? Every little bit helps, though.

 

I also was missing out on the screen where when you have all the animals in an area "stamped" by her, you can hit something on that screen to turn them in for XP:

 

I did not notice that until level 19 naturalist... it got me to 20, but my face was red since I could have done it sooner.

 

(OOPS, I think this was in reply to a post on the front page, I guess. I though it was the last page.)

It works for me fine every time in Single Player, but in 1,000+ hours I've played online, it's only worked on maybe 3 instances.

Are we definitely talking about the same thing? When you go into dead eye, you can’t see the red critical hit areas for animals?

Nope, not at all. 
I beat story 100%, I know how it's supposed to function. 
I'm level 222 in Online, it should work. 
But it doesn't. 
No critical spots, no seeing the heart, lungs, guts, brain, and spine. Nothing.

Yes, surprised that it works in online. 
I've only had it pop up 3 times in the 1,000+ hours that I've played online. 
It works every time for single player.

My pelts arrive anyway, but today I had a perfect cougar pelt, and I was at the FT post( St. Denis) dismounted next to my horse.

I fast travel to camp/

I arrived my horse not.

Look on map Horse appeared in St Denis still.

Went to my Stable vehicle tab and selected a different horse and he runs into camp with pelt..

Ive over 2000 hours 2 character level 68 and 290 just started story for the 4th time having done it 3 times completed and i can honestly say I havent seen the kill areas using dead eye in the online portion of the game

If it works on line it must be a bug, or he's confusing his gaming session. I'm pretty sure it's single player only that.

Never ever seen it work myself I am not saying it isnt supposed to as im sure its one of the many small bugs that will never be addressed, Glad at least some folk get it to work

I have recently seen the critical areas marked using the varmint and sedate rounds

 

But I'm mid level 300

and can hardly ever mark shots in Deadeye in showdowns

very frustrating,, I wonder if its ping  related on line I  live in a extremely remote area
