Whatever the patch did there, I'd call it an improvement (or at least a correction).

Huh, I thought it was just my imagination... ' nothing in the notes to suggest such a thing, even though it would be quite the substantial change.

Since the last update they seem to have done changes to culling, might explain some performance boosts seen around here a while back. Have definitely seen far mountains/LOD's popping in even before this update even with very high settings. Haven't really noticed any rocks popping in here though, will have to look for it.

The only complaints I have are that multimonitor was made more unstable with some of the fixes they pushed I think. While before I could use both my monitors while I played, today I crashed randomly while doing that.

It also seems like the loading screen disappears far too quick when you don't have an up to date shader cache, causing you to be able to see placeholder HUD elements loading in, along with a black screen and everything loading bit by bit.

I have been having major issues on PC since this update. Objects popping into and out of existence, textures not loading, sometimes Arthur will disappear except for his pants, gloves, and hat, but the worst is that at random moments my game will cut to the desktop for a second before going back to the game. It's awful. The game was working flawlessly last night, but as as soon as I updated this morning, it all went to hell. Does anyone have any insight, advice, or similar experiences? I'm playing on a nearly brand new PC and everything else is working fine except for Red Dead. Please help.

Same problem here, cutting to the desktop for a second.  Hasn't crashed the game, but it was working fine right before the patch.  Sucks it's happening, but whatever it is, it isn't just you.  Hope that means they'll fix it asap as there are probably others.

What exactly is the issue with video memory? The game will never show all of it because Windows takes some for itself.

There were also made some changes in lightning system. Just look at Arthur's hair. Even at night they were never this dark.

Gun locker is in wardrobe.

You can also access it when you get a room someplace.

Yes, gun locker is also accessible in hotel rooms. Doesn't make much sense, but it's convenient though.

ex: the game on vulkan shows that there are 1200 MB of vram used by other and 2800 for the game but in MSI afterburner the total vram usage can't exceed 3015 MB of vram so that i have empty 1 gb i can't use + new problem appeared that alt+tab= game hangs and force close from task manager

Whew! Least I'm not the only one. Thanks for posting. I'm gonna try and mess around with it today and see if I can find a quick fix. This sucks because it's my first playthrough and I just got to chapter 6. So I guess it kinda fits thematically because I feel very defeated lol

Exact same thing happened to my Arthur. He was just a floating hat and pair of empty pants. Freaky! Sometimes the textures will turn pitch black save for light sources and Arthur's hair.

As I said - worst update since PC launch.

Shame we are forced to this.

Safe zone of UI seems weird too.

Well, i don't know what it is, but on the first image there is clearly an aspect ratio deformation. The second one is correct.

On my pc I have never experienced anything like this.

Do you have a backup of the old config? Making a comparison would be interesting.

Interesting.

Unfortunately similar bugs that i've described here are still present. So there is a little popup (on ultra setup...), but I think limited to particular (tiny) assets. Hard to say if it's intentional or just a bug.

I reported both to official support months ago, but no improvements for now ...

You've always played with an incorrect aspect ratio, even on previous screenshots you showed from previous patches but you kept telling us we were wrong. This patch just fixed it for you, the 2nd image looks proper, the first looks stretched and weird.

I'm not implying anyone's wrong here, it was just the way my game looked since the very beginning. And I got used to that. And I never touched any aspect ratio setting related to RDR. But whatever, I got to deal with it.

When I first loaded into the game I had missing textures, strange artifacts, but then disappeared after 10-15 sec, every other launch after that worked fine.

What they must have done is reset some of cache files for the game, maybe try deleting the SGA files (Vulcan/DX12)located in the settings folder in RD2 documents? Then run a benchmark and see if that fixes the issue, also update drivers if you have not.

Yup, that's what I meant earlier. Looks like they're loading the renderer far too early when the shader cache isn't up to date so you see everything generating. Could possibly be resolved by lengthening the loading screen by a few seconds and only showing the game and the rest of the UI after.

I'm having issues too.  HDR isn't available and not working.  The screen flashes when it loads.  My first load in, the character was just a pair of gloves and suspenders.

Lurker who registered here specifically for this thread, lol.

But this describes my experience almost to a tee. Initial launch after the patch was very bizarre, starting with NOTHING generated on screen (black screen, but audio was still working), with all objects and effects slowly popping in. For example, when I would eventually get to the point where people and terrain would be loaded and textured, the sky dome was still all black, etc.

What concerned me was that this kept happening for a concerning amount of time. I was walking around with a black sky for nearly a minute. And once all appeared to have finally loaded, performance was super choppy eventually crashing the game altogether after a short ride from the Ch. 2 camp halfway between camp and Valentine.

I hadn't reloaded the game yet, but it's encouraging to hear that this could be a cache issue solved after the initial load.

I haven't crashed and it didn't take that long for me but it only happened on the first boot after the patch. It's normal to see stuff being generated when the shader cache is out of date even in other games, but seems like they changed something so now it looks more bizarre after the load screen.

Should be resolved now that you've had it happen the first time. Haven't seen it myself since then.

Graphics are now completly broken for me. Never had this. I start the game, after the loading screens ingame the whole screen is black. I can hear the audio and move around, but nothing is rendered. Only a black screen. I quit the game, reload it, then the game loads and suddenly heads and arms are missing from the NPCs, only their clothing walks through the streets, the heaven is pitch black in daylight and assets are missing here and there.

What a joke. But hey, they fixed the table on the ranch! Sad that now everything else is gone.

Strange that it takes so differing amounts of time to generate all the shaders, it was relatively quick for me on a similar GPU (but AMD) but took long for others. That is because the shader cache is generating and you need to wait a bit, it should only happen once. You might be seeing corrupt graphics because the shader cache is corrupted. Delete the sga_ files from Documents/Rockstar/RDR2/settings and try again.

This happens when the textures are still loading after new shaders are created. I still don't understand why this happens though, shaders are created and loaded as soon as you launch the game.

This has happened to me a lot of times even before this update (along with a vibrating noise in audio), apparently it was because of my GPU overclock.

Only the _init shaders and the warmup cache are created at startup. Then during runtime the rest is created as you play, but they changed something in the pipeline that's making it so you can see everything happening after loading if the cache is not up to date, surely needs tweaking but should only happen on first boot.

@MarshallRawR lmao. Try deleting the shader cache and letting it regenerate if you haven't. If you play on DX12 try switching to Vulkan as I think they did bork DX12 (at least for me, but I use Vulkan so doesn't bother me).

About third party shaders, a little off topic maybe, but after the game update I was having problems getting Reshade ver 4 to work. But after reinstalling it a couple times it's ok now.

I rebooted the game 3 or 4 times, then all the assets were there. Very strange. Thanks for the advice though. But now i have this lighting bug where hair of the characters under certain conditions becomes white/grey. Never had that before.
