60017 Silver Fox Posted July 27, 2020 Share Posted July 27, 2020 If they chose not to they will be losing out on a shedload of cash given how powerful the brand has become worldwide. I find it hard to believe they would even think of stopping GTA. They'll want to milk this franchise till theres nothing left. If they did decide not to bother making and releasing GTA VI I can't say i'll be too upset. I've cut back in videogaming quite alot anyways so its no major loss to me. Its unfortunate but not something i'll be losing sleep over. Rockstar and their publishers will be the biggest losers in this for denying such a large amount of money to flow into their bank accounts. billiejoearmstrong8 Posted July 27, 2020 Share Posted July 27, 2020 (edited) I know they've milked and continue to milk GTA Online a ridiculous amount but it can't literally last forever. You can't have the exact same game/map/characters infinitely, interest will wane and the technology/graphics will become obsolete enough that they'll have to move on. Even if they only care about online (which I don't believe - Red Dead Redemption 2 shows they still care about writing great stories) they'll still have to release a new game to have a new Online mode eventually. At this point if they tried to go with online only and no story mode it really would piss people off and hurt their reputation. They can have their cake and eat it too (get massive critical acclaim for story mode and tons of money from online), so that's what they'll do, there's no reason to give up having both. I wondered if Rockstar had started to play it safe and decided investing in Online until it no longer becomes profitable in the long-term and then maybe think about doing another game. Honestly, I don't think they're really that stupid. A new game will be released, maybe even called 'VI' but it would technically be an extension of GTA Online to a new map, forming a bridge between GTA5 online and GTA6 online. Then they will splash the water with VI. I think they were making VI, but Covid-19 stopped them from doing that. I think they start again when Covid-19 has waned in Britain. It’s my theory that work on VI began as early as mid 2014, but that project was shelved or scrapped due to pressure from T2 wanting R* to just focus on the online aspect since that’s where the long money is. Many will point out Dan saying in like 2018 that he wouldn’t know what to make VI about in this political climate, but I think this was hinting at the fact that the game was to take place in the past. I think T2 compromised and told R* that they could make a “story campaign” but it could not be SP. But it could be a BIGGER online. So development on a new GTAO with a story incorporated into it starts development. Dan freaks out because he cannot (as he thought this was a dumb idea before) tell a story the way he likes while incorporating the nuances of online multiplayer into it. (4 mute characters every mission lmao). Whole idea is seen as a clusterf*ck, Dan has enough and leaves, Lazlow follows suit. I think that’s why Jason says they’re in “early development”. Valve pulled that stunt because they were pulling the money in hand over fist with Steam. Things get weird when big sums of money are involved. Would Half-life 3 sales be through the roof if you were to ever see it? Probably so. Will you ever see it? Probably not.
