Is FiveM worth it? do you get hair type and body types etc that other people see?

I agree with what you say, but you have to be careful when promoting the grind over fun. If the grind is fun for you, then making in-game money will be the core of GTA online, as it is for many of us. Personally, I like statistics and I like seeing the numbers tick forward an inch, but I have many friends who hate them and simply want to play the game with the content unlocked from day one.

Actually I'm not promoting the grind, or at least not trying to because I hate it personally, but I can fully understand why it's part of the game design and can accept that it is there.

It's certainly true that video games nowadays are purposefully designed to be addictive as a result of the continuing commodification of the medium.

But that absolutely doesn't mean video games should be addictive. Games can be fun and not addictive. They just wouldn't be as profitable then either.

I wouldn't say this design is exlcusive to "nowadays" games. It's a format that has been used in RPGs for almost the last four decades, games from the time before internet and dlc.

Most non-RPG games nowadays have just adapted the model because the developers, and likely shareholders, have realized that it is the most sustainable format.

First of all, succesful or popular ≠ good, GTA Online itself being an obvious example of it.

Yet I never said it was good. I said it was successful.

I don't consider FiveM a success, mainly because of a lack of a game economy. The amount of success may change once Rockstar stops supporting GTAO, or it may not. But right now GTAO is more successful and that was the point of what I said. Not the goodness of it, nor the quality of it.

My favorite game of all time is probably EarthBound, a RPG from 25 years ago. I don't think it's addictive at all. It's a game that keeps surprising the player with new elements throughout the entire story.

You're the greatest guy, but that statement about being "more advanced" is laughable. FiveM is only as advanced as the core game it is based on, nothing more. It is not its own game, and GTA online itself is more advanced because it is the seed for everything else.

GTA SA MP was and is more advanced than GTA Online from Rockstar and there was no official multiplayer for San Andreas. I have compared Online iterations, not the core game which is V and which is the seed. The way R* Online is more advanced is simply not true: dramatically less player count, worse sync times, no dedicated servers, etc. Basically everything people are bitching about could be fixed in FiveM (and is fixed depending on the server): larger sessions, bigger drawing distance for sniping, dedicated servers with custom settings like weather and police, bypassing prop limits, combining clothing. It's all based on the resourced of V, just as R* Online, but if you ask me, R* did very poor job on the multiplayer part. Core game is great, it's online that sucks massively. I used to like it until I have really tried the alternatives. Maybe some phrasing issue in my original post, I hope I have cleared that now.

TL;DR: FiveM is not a modded version of Online. It is a different version of GTA multiplayer and has nothing to do with original GTA Online from Rockstar. Fivem or GTAVMP would have been created even if there was no Online from R* like it was the case with San Andreas. You can literally be banned in GTAO and play FiveM because it only uses the resources of original game, GTA V. The network code is different, the approach is different. Absolutely different universe.

Oh, and the vanila thing... Here's extract from Cambridge dictionary.

Quote

used to describe a product or service that is basic and has no special features:

I just want a vanilla bank account with low charges.

Nothing derogatory here if you ask me. However, English is the third language I'm using now and I could be wrong on how people perceive some phrases (I'm originally Russian living in francophone area when English is a bit... underrated, my family members are speaking Russian at home).

Well I have ZERO reasons to play GTA if money is taken away

I want to play for cash, have a crime empire steal and sell cars sell drugs etc and make money then use it to buy or upgrade and do other stuff.

If FiveM doesn't have this then I have ZERO interest in FiveM

The issue with FiveM is that it's hard to find a proper server with a stuff you're interested in. However, you think go to proper forums and subreddits and ask around. There are grind servers there, I can assure you. Start here and here. The thing is to find the one you want or to start your own, but that's another ballgame, just like some *nix distros. It's not for everyone. If you're not good with the technology, don't bother with creating your own server. However, waste a bit of your time and browse the list, chances are you will find something decent.

Several people pointed out you can totally get what you want from FiveM and any of the other mp mods, whatever you are looking for somebody somewhere has a server for it. Again, why dont you just try it?

Heres the 3 active mp mods im aware of, ima stick with the notion that FiveM is a subpar option, even if the other 2 might be slightly behind on some features at least they didnt cause a lot of trouble in the past.

I don't play FiveM because I'm actually lazy to install it and configure lol. Also no interest in roleplay and have no idea how regular Online access would get affected by the install. But from what I've seen it's a very interesting modification and I'm glad it exists as an option to regular Online. Racing servers with no cheaters sounds super cool though.
