Guest
Favourite - Graffiti Tags (SA) Felt like an immersive part of CJ's gang life rather than just collecting stuff randomly, felt nice to stick it to the other gangs Honourable mention to the submarine parts in V Least favourite - Flying Rats(IV) Too many of them which made it too tedious, plus the reward wasn't worth it either imo Edited July 25, 2020 by Guest Added mention
Evil empire
Favorite: The San Fierro snapshots because of the artistic side, you can take the photos from various angles at different times of the day with different weathers and the atmosphere can be completely different from one picture to another. billiejoearmstrong8
Pigeons in IV are torture. Seagulls in EFLC are only marginally better because there's less of them. And terrible "rewards" for collecting them. HATE toxic waste in V. Submarine parts aren't as bad but the fact there's both makes things worse I enjoy hidden packages in VC, and all the collectibles in SA (minus the oysters because underwater) simply because I already know where they all are and it's easy/satisfying to get them. In SA I like the variation of having to be sneaky to spray the tags, the unique way you take the photos, and then using the jetpack to get the horseshoes. You also get very good and useful rewards for them in these games which is a plus. I kind of like collectibles in general, as long as they're not made unnecessarily tedious in some way (cops constantly after you with the pigeons, being underwater with no radio etc). They're not so great when replaying but the first time they make you explore different areas of the map you might not have yet and I like that. I do think they'd be improved if it was somehow possible to collect them all on your own without having to look up a guide though (with maps/clues provided by the game or just by them being in more obvious locations where you'll naturally find them), and if the ones you'd already collected were checked off on a map so you didn't have to worry about losing track of what you've already got so you could pick them up as you see them instead of having to do them all in one go. If you hold down X you can select the map to display the unique stunt jumps, rampages or red balloons that you've already completed. When they have a really useful feature like that I don't know why they drop it. It's like how IV had the thing where flying under a bridge caused the ones you hadn't flown under yet to show on the map momentarily, then dropped in V for no reason. Algonquin Assassin
The only thing I like about the flying rats in GTA IV was some of them led me to places that I probably wouldn’t have went, but there’s too many of them which is overkill and the reward is pretty weak. I also made the mistake of doing the submarine parts in GTA V in one sitting expecting some kind of worthwhile reward. Generally I’m not a fan of collectibles as the rewards aren’t worth the effort. I miss the classic hidden packages though that would grant weapons and such after every 10. Those were cool. ROCKSTAR MANIC
Not only that @Algonquin Assassin but what you get as reward for the sub parts. What I liked about the 3D era collectables that they gave you props like in VC or an advantage to CJ in SA. Also the Odd jobs gave you rewards that benefited you. I didnt understand the V collectables. I hope they come back this time and they actually have a resemblence to the 3D era games. Bob Loblaw_
I don't think there's a single collectible set I like, except for rampages (I guess those counts as collectible). The 2° closest would be Tags, but they were too simple, IMO. If they ever bring tags back, I hope they do something similar to the Tags in The Warriors and Bully. And I also hope they bring the collectible tracker (like in VCS) back.

GhettoJesus
I didn't attempt any of the collectibles in the HD era so I am limited to the 3D era on this one. The tags were my absolute favorite. It was a unique concept and it was a really hood thing to do. The worst are probably the oysters. Just too much swimming around and cruising around. Never was a big fan of that. Edited August 7, 2020 by GhettoJesus Ivan1997GTA
Extreme Hunt
Flying rats (GTA IV) with no doubt are my least favorite. 200 is just to much for the reward it gives. Would been more useful if the annihilator spawned on a few more easier to get to helipads. I think this is only true for multiplayer where helipads can spawn annihilator/mavericks. My favorite would be the spaceship part in GTA V since the reward is kinda silly. Edited August 19, 2020 by Extreme Hunt

ChengizVlad09
@universetwisters The one on top is the PC release, which comes in a different format, as it can clearly be seen. Also, pictures inside are in black and white, contrary to the PS2 edition on the bottom. Edit: As it states on the PC edition, maps at the back do come in color. Tycek
Generally speaking whole HD era sucks in terms of collectibles with one honourable exception of CTW. Flying Rats/Seagulls were very meh and like MiamiViceCity/Algonquin Assassin (or whatever name He is using today :P) mentioned their only redeeming feature is to show player locations he would normally miss. To be honest I never completed Seagulls, neither in TLaD nor in TBoGT and I did Flying Rats only once in GTA IV for the achievement and getting 100% of completion in my life. As much as I love IV and both its add-ons these collectibles were huge miss by R*. GTA V went even further with giving player middle finger when in comes to collecting crap. Submarine parts, Toxic Waste, UFO parts and letter scraps were all tedious and the awards were far from being good. 10$, stupid looking buggy and one useless mission? That's all we get for all the running around and collecting crap, especially in that slow-ass submarine. GTFO with that crap. CTW gave us cameras (in numer of 100) and these may be considered as useless as the rest, but at least destroying them lowered the price of drugs allowing player to earn more money from very cool minigame. You may say that even with normal prices, drug dealing was pretty lucrative and I agree with You on that, but at least we got something that was nicely tied to the game and gave us something in return. When we are speaking about the best one, I'd say the classic ones were cool - hidden packages in any from (packages, figurines or balloons). We get award every ten, we felt like we received something even without collecting all of them and we could see that parts of the town we wouldn't normally ventured into.
